The Term "Mary Sue".
I've heard this term a lot when it comes to fanfiction. What exactly is a "Mary Sue", and what does the term mean?

There's a good explanation at Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_sue

Basically the character is too perfect, special, and unbelievable, and comes up a lot in fan fiction. Not fan fiction, but a lot of people had that against Wesley Crusher.

I was worried that my character would be perceived as one. I wrote about that a little at http://sporkful.blogspot.com/2012/09/things-that-were-not-automatic.html, but it's mixed in with other things.
KurtPikachu2001 Thanks! Some people accuse Leela from Futurama of being one.

Leela? Really?
I think her level of awesomeness is reasonable for the character, but she also has realistic weaknesses and relationships with others.

Another good example is probably Bella from Twilight. All of the guys want her, and the flaw she is given (clumsiness) is supposed to be cute. That's all hearsay though, trying to read it made my head hurt.
