Definately keep the spacing; it is nice and easy to read.
The story its self does have a lot going for it, but I'm going to have to agree with dc1 on this one.
Harry is supposed to be an adult here, he wouldn't put up with a beating unless there was a very good reason. Especially not when he could do something about it - all it would take is some sneaking around at midnight setting appropriate wards.
