Right from the start and as it has been unfolding (I just read all six chapters), I sensed that you have a very good potential story to tell that will allow for some fresh air and dimension to the Harry Potter Saga from an american/witch perspective. Don't worry about the story development as being too slow.
Some of the best authors writing their best work have been routinely criticized for their slow beginnings.
Character development add spice to it.
