Let's Try That Again, Shall We?

It's an interesting tale. I like the idea of multiple time travelers; I'm writing a story with that kind of approach myself. My main issue with your story is the massive amount of original characters - if this was your original story, it'd be different, but for fanfiction, it's hard to get invested in characters we've never heard of vs characters we already know so well.

Author's response

I'm definitely trying to write from the social periphery of most of the canon characters, all the while starting the year before Harry gets there. It's like hitting a wall if I want to have things, like, say, conversations at house tables other than Gryffindor. So the proliferation of original characters is sort of half design and half necessity.

Next year I get this whole slew of canon characters, of course, so my hope is to get that far while slowly weaving them in as they become available to me. On the plus side, the Harry Potter universe is appealing in part because Rowling herself had to create zillions of characters to populate it, so there are a lot of interesting and marginal ones I can use, like the various professors (who I will definitely work my way through).

I suppose there's a question of where fanfiction leaves off and borrowed universes begin, and after multiple chapters of writing what feels to me like gap-filling, it's fair to say the story isn't solidly on the "fanfiction" end of that spectrum.
