Ahh! And I'm a total sucker for nail gore. In movies I can NOT watch that stuff, even just reading it is hard for me...
But this... totally loved it.
I also love how you outlined the loss of his brother yet didn't really touch on it so that left the entire thing a mystery as to why the boys didn't get a harsher punishment and WHY they killed Gerard. I'm guessing just stupid bullying? Ugh.
Then his descent in to insanity was just beautiful.

yeah it's just stupid bullying, and they didn't get a harsher punishment cuz the world doesn't turn that way, they got off the hook because there wasn't any solid proof of the murder, but they all know who did it. :D
