The Life Bond

Excellent start to what promised to be a fascinating story. You made everything feel quite natural (that you cut Ron out of the rescue and left all the blame to fall on him doesn't hurt, Albus will not be happy). It should be quite fascinating to see how this comparatively small change affects the unfolding of events.

Author's response

Thank you! I can understand why he was included in rescuing Hermione in canon, but at the same time, he really is the reason why Hermione's there in the first place. The way I see it, if he hadn't known about the troll, there's no way he would've gone looking for her. Not only that, even in canon he seemed really reluctant to rescue Hermione. So, while he'll be friends with them still, it's going to take a bit longer and some actual bonding time to develop a meaningful relationship between the trio.

As for Albus, he won't be bashed. Yeah, he can be a manipulative bastard, but I think he can achieve his goal of peace for the Wizarding world and, ultimately, the final demise of Voldemort without being such a chess master. So, yeah, I'm going to try it that way. =)
