I really like your take on Harry Potter. I also like how you get all the info across without getting hugely long-winded and still making the story entirely your own. I look forward to year 2 as the Dynamic Duo (of Dastardly Deception) learn that their actions have consequences and their book begins to help them less. Yes it still gives them the overall plot of the year, but the minor interactions have changed drastically, as have the players. That's one of the things that makes your story so interesting, after all.
