"Perhaps his actions concerning Harry hadn't been especially prudent after all." Nice bit of understatement. Perhaps pinning his hopes on a child and then ignoring him for 10 years wasn't his brightest move, either. Even if Dumbledore felt no ethical obligation to see if Harry was ok, you would think it prudent to check on the person you believe is identified in prophecy.
