Why would a British school send a letter to a child in America? Makes no sense. The only possible reason I could envision that happening is if the child was pre-registered.

Think this would be much better if Harry insisted that Dan visit the closer schools and Hogwarts before choosing one of them. And to get some other materials on the schools, and to check to see if any of his friends locally have magic.
