I remember

I remember the reason why I fell for you,
I remember the reason why I left you.
I remember lying to all my friends about the bruise
I remember lying to my parents about the abuse
I remember the fights
I remember the drunken nights
I remember the threats
I remember the regrets
I remember the times I picked up the kitchen knife
I remember the times I was prepared to take my own life
I remember the good times too,
I remember how I laughed and laughed when I was with you
I remember how angry you could get
I remember as I packed I filled with regret
I remember staring at you across the court
I remember how your eyes were filled with hurt
I remember the judge reminding me that I am the victim
I remember thinking that you deserve prison.
