Jared gazed out of the window that looked across the dusty, bare, orange surface of MARS, "something's changed, it's in the air, soon...." he muttered to himself, suddenly there was an almighty bang and an explosion of thuds on the door of the little cabin, Jared jumped a little n turned towards the door, "JAAAAAAAREEEED, JAAARED OOOPEN UUUUP!!!!!!" shouted the voice from outside, "okay okay i'm coming for God sake" he hurried to the door
the thuds continued "THIS IS URGENT, OPEN UP JARED" they said, the worry grew in their voice, Jared opened the door and Shannon rushed in, the dust blowing through the open door behind him giving Shan' an orange glow. He grabbed Jared by the shoulders and looked into his deep blue eyes, "the war is coming...they're here".
The dust storm grew outside, the roof rattled and the walls creaked and sometimes Jared was sure his cabin would fly away but even so, he never wanted to move from his solitary spot on this once fiercly alive battlefield.
Shannon sat on Jareds' perfectly white sofa with a blanket over his shoulders, he sipped his hot chocolate and continued to cough and sneeze due to all the dust he'd inhaled on his way to Jareds' House, "are you okay, man? you really don't look alright" Jared always worried about his bro, especially when he appeared at his house in a state like he had earlier "yeah i'm okay, i just breathed in too much dust, that's all" he coughed again "n...i'm sorry I scared you but this whole situation is really serious, I had to tell you straight away n i couldn't phone because when a storm's on its way th--" Jared stopped him suddenly
"the signal cuts out...I know, it's okay i'm glad you're here, I needed to talk to you anyway" Shannon placed his mug down on the glass table "HEY! man, use a coaster" Jared threw a one at Shannons' face, he giggled. Shann' did not look amused but he ended up smiling anyway "sorry" he said, amused.
"So, why did you need to talk to me?" Shan' asked curiously
"Have you felt it, the change, in the wind...?" Jared leaned forward slightly "it's become strangly angry these last few days" he sat back again "i mean i know it's always pretty wild but it's been MORE wild, somethings wrong and i don't know what" there was an eery silence that fell over the room, for a few seconds the house stopped rattling n the two men looked up at the roof. Then it started again, louder than before "see, that's not right. It's not meant to stop like that! It's only been doing that recently" Jared put his hand on his chin, n crossed his legs, his shiny, Red Doc Martins shone with colour against the white sofa, he went into deep thought. "Yeah, i have noticed, something is wrong and I think i know why. That's what I came here to tell to you" Shannon got up and walked over to the window, his hands behing his back "Remember when we were kids, and mom told us about the legendary Echelons and Killjoys that once fought on this plain, and after the battle they all disappeared and were never seen again..." Shannon continued to stare, Jared suddenly woke up from his thoughts "oh yeeeah, i remember and then dad came in and told mom to stop being so silly and that it was all a big myth and nothing like that ever happened" Jared grinned and look upwards "goooood time...gooooooooood times"
Shannon turned towards Jared "can you take this seriously please?!"
Jared stopped grinning n put on his most convincing serious face "yeah, but you gotta admit it was funny when that happened though and whe--"
"JARED!"

The atmosphere in the room was becoming uncomfortable, Shannon sighed and continued "well, i don't think they were 'pretend stories', i think they were real and that war really happened, i did some research and found that the wind changes everytime they return" Shannon wandered back to the sofa but he didn't sit down, he walked back and fourth with his hands still behind his back and his head down, Jared uncrossed his legs and looked up at Shannon "who returns...?" he asked
Shannon stopped and lifted his head "The Killjoys...."
Jareds' face froze with shock "oh my god...WE'RE SCREWED!"
