Her grandfather is dying and there is no such place as Amestris. [post episode 51, series spoilers]

I liked the feeling of connection between Ed and Beatrice, as well as the sense of -longing- as she's trying to understand the array that Ed has refused to explain to her. It's as if Amestris is a part of her as well as Ed and she misses it, even if she doesn't realize what it is she's missing. Nice choice of career for her as well; a doctor who deals in chemistry and biology as a bridge to the alchemist that Ed will always be.
I also liked how you left the ending open; did she or did she not activate the array? Logically I know she didn't without a human sacrifice, but if you ever wanted to, you could probably expand the story. Either way, though, it still emphasizes her connection to her grandfather nicely.
A beautiful and original story. You should be very proud of this piece; it's certainly going in my favorites.
