The mask of a pretty face
Covering milk white skin
No one sees
No one cares to see.
The mask is obvious,
That of a cat-like smile.
A Cheshire grin,
That would be impossible on any face.
But no one sees,
No one cares to see.
Eyes that look anywhere
But the face,
Eyes that flit about with uncertainty.
A gaze that looks everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
And no one wonders
They don’t care to wonder.
Delicately,
Like a butterfly,
She makes her way to the door,
Mask still firmly in place.
And no one notices.
Her disappearance
Unobserved.
She wanders alone,
The mask still gracing her features
But no one cares,
No one is there to care.
The mask cracks,
Hairline fractures
In porcelain white.
The Cheshire grin
Shatters
And falls from her face.
But no one notices.
