Wedges of orange light from the street lamps painted slices of her face as the car moved on, shadows slid over her and she sighed. Finally letting go. Fat drops of rain ran down the window, racing each other to get to the bottom and disappearing out of sight. Her train of nonchalant thought was interrupted when the nameless driver cleared his throat,

"So, where are you heading?" Lorrelei sat up, sniffling and shaking her head,

"anywhere... London." The driver nodded and flicked on his indicator, turning down an unfamiliar road. London was around two hours away, she may as well catch a little bit of missed sleep, Frank Sinatra sang in her head, Fly Me To The Moon.

The sudden halt of the vehicle jolted Lorrelei awake, she opened her eyes, her vision slightly disorientated and for a second, there was a rising panic inside her when she didn't recognize where she was, then it clicked. London.

"That's...." The driver began then looked at her, the small, fragile young girl, nothing but a backpack on her shoulder and her cheeks still a little pink from where she had been crying when he first picked her up. A surge of sympathy ran through him and he bit his lip, being a middle aged man and having a young daughter of his own, he'd want her to be able to keep any money she had for emergencies. "On me" he finished. The girl looked at him,

"sorry?" he shrugged,

"you don't look like you're carrying over £300 right now, just take care of yourself" keeping her eyes on him, she slowly slipped out, stopping and holding the door open,

"thank you" she said quietly before shutting it, hitching her bag up on her back and turning away from the car, not watching him drive away as she put one foot in front of the other, heading no where in particular but anywhere.
