“Carrie.” Splinter called from the doorway of the dojo.

Carrie looked up and put her novel on the table next to the big, comfy armchair she had been reading in.

“Yes, Sensei?”

“Come here. I would like to speak with you.”

Carrie got up reluctantly. She wasn’t all too happy about leaving Mr. Darcy where the guys could very easily harm him, but something in Splinter’s voice made her uneasy.

“Kneel, my dear.” He said and did the same.

“What is it?” she asked. “You seem concerned.”

Splinter rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “I am.” He admitted. “About Raphael.”

Carrie blinked. “Is there something wrong with him?” she asked worriedly.

He smiled. “No. But there might be in the future.” He looked her square in the eyes. “I would like to ask you a few things, though.”

“Of course.” She said. “Anything.”

Splinter took a deep breath in through the nose. “As you may have observed, Raphael relies on his emotions a great deal.”

“Yes.” She nodded and smirked slightly. “I noticed.”

“In the same light,” Splinter continued. “He is not the best at expressing those emotions. Especially the softer, gentler ones.”

Carrie nodded again, slowly, as if she couldn’t quite see what this had to do with her.

Splinter had noticed that Carissa was very much like Raphael in the sense that you had to lay everything out in front of her without any sugar coating. She would only take the truth from you, or nothing at all. “You care about him. Don’t you?”

Carrie jumped slightly at the abruptness of the change in direction and her cheeks reddened faintly. “I… I don’t understand where this is going…” she stammered.

Splinter hid a smile with his hand. “Perhaps I should try a different approach.” He thought out loud.” He cleared his throat. “My son cares about you more than he would like to admit. And I couldn’t help but notice that you may have the same feelings toward him as he does to you.”

Carrie tucked an imaginary strand of hair behind her ear nervously. “I don’t know.” she said, avoiding his gaze. “I guess so.”

“Love is one of those emotions that Raphael is not well acquainted with expressing.” Splinter said. “And it worries me that he has taken to you so easily.”

Carrie lifted her eyes to look at him. “You think I’m going to hurt him?” she asked.

Splinter clenched his fist. “I would like to know if you feel the same way about my son as he does you.”

Carrie took a deep breath and set her jaw. “Yes.” She said with determination. “I do.”

“May I ask why?” Splinter asked.

“Allow me to ask you a question, Splinter.” She said with a small quirk on her lips. When he nodded, she asked, “What do you see when you look at your son, Raphael?”

“I see a turtle with a resemblance of a man and three times as much emotion.” He said honestly.

She smiled. “Well, I see a man with a resemblance of a turtle.” She said. “But also, I see a gentle person with just as much feeling and love as a man should.”

Splinter could only stare at her in amazement. After a moment, he couldn’t help but smile broadly.

“That’s what I hoped.” He said.
