Loneliness is measured in Vicodin. So are a lot of other things -- boredom, irritation, frustration, and let's not forget the all-important pain -- but at night, it's loneliness.
One to numb it down every night so he can sleep.
Two when the bed's a little too empty, and the silence hurts a little too much, and the remaining muscles in his thigh start to cramp up from the strain of remembering.
Three when the ghosts come, and the bed isn't empty anymore because he can feel her there, almost solid, almost real.
And then Wilson leaves. And he takes four.
