"The Take Over, The Break's Over"

Brendon's POV

Footsteps woke me up.

I glanced at the clock.

1:15. Who would be up at 1:15?

I forced myself out of bed and crept out of the small room.

Evie sat in a chair, looking out the window.

"Do you know that it's 1 in the morning?"

She gasped and turned my way.

"Oh my god, I didn't hear you coming."

She gestured me to sit down.

"Do you know it's 1 in the morning?" She asked.

"Yep. You woke my up."

"Sorry."

"So, may I ask why you are up this early?"

"I dunno, I got bored laying in bed and staring at the ceiling."

"Oh, I see."

Suddenly, she started crying.

She turned away quickly and sniffled.

"Why are you crying?"

"It's nothing...I'm fine."

"You must not be fine if you're crying."

She turned toward me again.

"Really...I'm fine."

I leaned in a kissed her. I could taste salt from her tears.

"Don't kiss me Brendon."

"Why?"

"I can't like you. Don't you get it? That’s why I'm crying."

“Why?”

“I’ll end up getting hurt in some way. It always happens.”

“No it doesn’t.”

“Remember in 2nd grade when I told you I liked you and you said ‘ewww’? That hurt my feelings.”

“We were in 2nd grade!!”

“Oh yeah, and then in 8th grade when you asked me out and then stood me up?”

“My hamster died that night.”

“And when you told me you liked me and then got a girlfriend?”

“But—“

“Stop making excuses. And you didn’t have a hamster.”

“My sister did.”

She gave me a look.

“I’m sorry, okay?”

She turned away again.

“Can you accept my apology?”

“No.”

“Please?”

“Maybe.

“Pretty please?”

“Yes.”

She rested her head on my shoulder.
