Most folks couldn't offer him understanding. At best, they could empathize and maybe that was close enough to make them think that they understood. However, Ichigo knew better and he thought it was a little unfair that the only person who came closer than anyone about understanding him sat across from the Shinigami, ingenuously eating his own lunch.
Do you wear that scowl to keep others from getting too close? To keep everyone from knowing that you give a damn about anything?
Uryu Ishida chose that moment to glance up and the glare of the afternoon sun hit his glasses causing Ichigo to squint hard in order to save his eyeballs from melting.
'Sorry' Ishida said with a voice that Ichigo took to be half derisive and half sincere.
Ichigo's own scowl deepened until he felt a dull pain kick at his skull.
