Kara looked around her room and sighed. This was the fifth time she'd been hospitalized this year. CF,
Cystic fibrosis sucks. She had been in the hospital for yet another round of treatments. She was only twelve,
and she started to think that this illness ruled her life. It was some monster. One she chose to fight against
but as time passed, her attempts to fight this off got weaker. Or the monster got stronger she wasn't sure.
Her nurse, Sylvia who cared for her was with her.
"Is there anything you need?" She asked poking her head in. The sad look on Kara's face was enough to
break her heart.
"No I'm fine thank you." Kara replied going back to her book she was reading. Then she had an idea.
Reaching over for a pen and paper, she decided to write to one of her most favorite music groups. The
Backstreet Boys.
Dear guys,
My name is Kara Kenny. I'm twelve years old and I have CF. I've had it since I was six months old. As I write
this, I am sitting in another crappy hospital waiting. Waiting for the needles, waiting for the medication,
waiting for the pain. I hate coughing, I hate not being able to eat all the stuff I want. and you know what I
want most of all? McDonalds! If this is starting to sound like a pitty party for myself, it's not. I'm just down. I
get like that when all I have hope for now is a quick death. I know that sounds morbid, but I can't help it. I
hate this monster called cf, I hate what it does, and as I keep fighting it gets stronger. Please don't bother to
write back. I mean no disrespect, I just know you have way to much to do then worry about me. Talk to you
soon,
Kara Kenny

After rereading her letter and checking there was no spelling mistakes, she pushed the call button for Sylvia.
"Can I get you something?"
"I need a envelope, and someone who can mail something for me. Mom and dad won't be here until
tomorrow."
"Sure hun," Sylvia smiled walking away to get what Kara needed. All Kara could do now, was hope the fan
club passed it on to one of them and they would care enough to either write or possibly call. She knew she
didn't want them to write, but that was just out of being polite. I mean, how rude would she have been if
she'd said, 'I expect an essay by next week,' That's not her. Kara grimaced as another coughing fit took hold
of her tiny body. Sylvia came rushing in when she heard Kara. Sitting on the bed, she started gently
pounding Kara's ribs to loosen some of the mucous. (gross sorry I know) After twenty minutes an
exhausted Kara wrote the address on the outside and limply handed Sylvia the letter. Not reading it because
it wasn't hers, Sylvia slid it into the envelope and went off to mail it. Kara rested. All she needed was sleep.

Dream sequence

Kara sits on the stage, Nick on one side, Howie and Brian on the other. She's smiling at them and not even
thinking about her illness. Kevin tosses a full bottle of water toward her. Nick grabs it and hands it to Kara.
She takes a long drink as the five stand around her.
"The first day, That I saw your smiling face, Honey I knew that we would be, together forever baby." AJ
sang (I'm not exactly who starts in on that. sorry.) The rest joined acapella, watching Kara's face light up.
Then they played Larger then Life, and Nick dances with Kara and Kara gets so excited she doesn't even
cough. The next thing she knows, she's sitting at dinner with them eating burgers and fries. AJ's trying to
impress her in how loud he can burp. That's not to amusing to her, she's to interested in Howie's dreamy
hazel eyes. Then she's jolted back to her reality as coughing once again starts. This time, she coughs so
hard she passes out. Kara's scared but after she wakes up, she realizes all that she thought was real was just
a dream. Kara then goes back to a light uneasy sleep. She can never sleep when coughing wakes her up.

A.N. Hi all. This is my first BSB fic so please be nice and review. I don't know why, but no one reviews my
stories. I'll try and write more. I hope this one doesn't suck. and sorry about any inconsistencies, but being
blind sort of has it's disadvantages. I'll start on the next chapter now. later,

chapter 2
Hey all. Sorry that first one was so short, please review and here is the next one.

Kara raced into the house after school. It had been five weeks since she'd been out of the hospital, and she
intended to make every moment last. She dropped her backpack on the floor by her stairs and hung up her
jacket. She heard voices in the kitchen and went in to see who it was. Her mom sat with an older lady with
thinning blonde hair.
"Hey Mom. Oh I'm interrupting I'm sorry," Kara apologized getting up to leave.
"No. Hun this is Ashley. She's from the cystic fibrosis foundation." Ashley stood up and took Kara's hand.
"It's nice to meet you." Kara smiled.
"I was talking to your mom, because it seems like there's only one more option for your treatment hun." Kara
stood dumbfounded for a second.
"What's that?" She asked looking scared and puzzled all at once.
"I talked to Doctor Serino last night. He thinks that you would benefit from a double lung transplant." Her
mom said.
"If I do that, what are the chances that I'll be ok." Ashley spoke up.
"There's a twenty percent chance that you may die. There's a sixty percent chance that this will help you."
Kara sank back into her chair digesting what was just said. If she went through with it, it might mean she
could be normal again. She just wanted to get out of the stupid regime of pills she was on right now. She
sighed again and looked at the women.
"Ok. I think I might want to do this. I'm scared though. When is it going to happen? Two weeks, months?"
Kara's mom put a hand on her shoulder while Ashley took her other hand.
"I know you're scared, sweetie, but I know you can do this," Kara's mom said. Ashley looked into Kara's
eyes and saw fear.
I'm going to put your name on the national waiting list for organs right now. We'll call you as soon as
something becomes available." What she didn't add was If something becomes available. She didn't want to
scare the poor girl. Her mom had been briefed already. Ashley stood up and took Kara's hand again.
"I'll talk to you soon." She smiled at her mom and they walked into the hall so they wouldn't hurt Kara's
feelings before she left. Kara knew a lot, just this was stuff she didn't need to worry about.
"Ok Ashley level with me. If Kara gets any sicker, she won't make the list right?" Ashley composed herself.
"No, Janet. She is technically on the list. I just needed the patient's permission to do that. But if she gets
sicker time may run out before something can be found. She does have to understand that she will need
drugs to keep her body from rejecting the tissue right?" Janet nodded. After talking a little more, Ashley left.
Janet came back into the kitchen to see Kara crying.
"What's wrong? I know you're scared but I know you are strong enough to do this."
"It's not that. I just want to do so much stuff. Ride horses, sing when I'm a little older, and meet the
BSB,mom." Janet sighed heavily. This was tough. She placed a phone call later on after Kara had gone up to
bed.
Kevin Richardson sat playing pool with AJ when his cell phone rang.
"Hold on, Bone." Kevin said dropping his cue and getting his cell phone out.
"Hello?"
"Kevin, this is Janet Kenny. I spoke to you a week ago about my daughter Kara."
"Oh yes, Mrs. Kenny. I'm so sorry about your daughter's sickness."
"She was just taken and placed on the Organ recipient's waiting list. I know you don't want to pitty her, but
she'd love it if you could maybe talk to her." Janet was unsure as to how to ask Kevin for help.
Kevin now had a misty look in his eyes and he leaned against the wall. AJ looked at him curiously.
"Let me check my schedule and I'll call you back in the morning. Is that all right?"
"Yes I thank you so much, Mr. Richardson."
"Call me Kevin please. And do me a favor? Tell Kara Kevin said hello and to keep fighting that ugly
monster." Kevin had to think of some way to urge her on until he could help her. He hung up with Kara's
Mom and went back to his pool game.
"Dude, what was that?" AJ asked, lining up his shot.
"I think we're going to make an appearance in Boston Massachusetts so we can help out a little fan." AJ
nodded.
"So what's this one have," His voice sounded a little as though he was tired of doing this. Kevin sent him a
glare.
"What do you mean, What does this one have? AJ, how can you be so heartless when there's a girl sitting
over in Boston, who has to fight every breath she takes. You read the letter." AJ felt bad.
"I'm sorry man. I just would rather do stuff then worry about some sick kid. I mean after awhile, it gets old."
"Then quit the group. AJ, if you can't handle this, quit." AJ stood straight.
"Kevin, don't tell me I should quit. That's not what I mean. and who said I would listen to you? God you are
such a jerk sometimes!" AJ yelled throwing down his cue and storming out of the hotel's game room. He
almost ran face first into Nick who had been going to get a soda when he heard AJ's yell.
"Whoa dude. What's your malfunction."
"Just shut.up! You no good Mamma's boy!" AJ spat going for the elevator. Nick stood stunned for a
minute. Kevin came out.
"What's wrong with him? did you whip his ass in pool?" Nick looked up at his bandmate and saw both hurt
and anger in his face.
"Nick, AJ's pissed because I made arrangements, or I will, to visit a sick girl in Boston and he doesn't want
too. He said it get's old doing it. Tell me the truth. Does it?"
"No Kevin. I love cheering up kids who are sick. The brighter they smile, the more I feel happy. If I didn't
want to make kids smile, I'd be a lawyer or something." That made Kevin laugh.
"Oh god. Nick Carter. Attorney." Nick looked hurt but was laughing too.
"Let AJ chill. Honestly Kevin, I want a break. We've all been working our fingers to the bone to get the tour
set. But when I read that letter about that poor kid with CF, How could I say no?"
"I know you're tired. So am I. But I feel the same way you do. Thanks Nick," Kevin did the Manly hug thing.
They went to their rooms.

A month later, Kara went in for surgery. Her mom, dad and best friend, Alison were sitting in her room after
she was given the anesthesia. Kara slowly closed her eyes and as she drifted off, she thought about what it
would be like to meet the BSB. They were the only thing keeping her hope alive.
Hey all I'll finish the next chapter and get it up soon. and review! the more I get the more I write so please?
ok done begging sorry lol. BTW, if anyone wants to email me go ahead and I'd love if anyone wanted to
collaborate on this story with me. bye for now,
Velvet

chapter 3
Author's note: Hey all. I love you guys for the reviews! sorry about the spelling in my summary I was trying
to fix it. Anyway I'll go into a little about what CF is, Summer smile don't worry, and I'm going to change it
around a little. Ok on with the show! and I have two other stories. One's called My eyes the other is who am
I? They're in Britney and Jessica sections. ok on I go!

Two agonizing hours went by with no word. Janet, and Bob, along with Alison sat waiting. Janet was pacing
while Bob read a magazine. He needed anything to keep his mind from worrying about his only child in
there. He remembered to how it all began.
Flashback.
Baby Kara lounged in her mother's arms as Doctor Taylor looked at her.
"She seems to be doing ok but I'm concerned with her weight. She should be a lot more then fifteen pounds.
I'm going to order a sweat test. I think she may have a genetic condition known as Cystic Fibrosis. That's
where the mucous that lines the digestive system and the lungs is abnormally thick." Janet turned to her
husband.
"I'm not sure, but didn't Ryan have that?" She asked referring to his youngest brother who'd died at 23.
"Yeah I think so. Ok Kaylin," He said referring to Kara's pediatrician.
"Is there anything we need to do?" Doctor Taylor gave them instruction sheets on how to do therapy to
loosen the mucous so she could cough it up when she got older. She was also put on a strict diet. That was
the beginning of Kara's Normal Life.

End flashback
Alison suddenly jumped up when Doctor Serino came in the room.
"I'm afraid I have some bad news. The lungs we had for Kara won't match her blood type. And in addition,
we ran tests and found there were some damaging holes in them." All three faces fell.
"What? Are you serious?" Janet asked getting angry.
"You waste our time, scare the hell out of our daughter and for what? So you can get her damn hopes up
and crush them?" Bob put a restraining hand on his wife's arm.
"Honey, sit down and let's discuss this. Doctor Serino what happens now?"
"I'm afraid she goes back on the List. I'm sorry. We need to run tests before we transplant organs and it's a
good thing we did. I've just taken her off the lung machine but she will need to have a breathing tube down
her throat for the next twenty four hours. After that, she can return home and try and get back to her
schoolwork. I'm not trying to give you all false hope, please understand that. There is no cure for this
disease." He stood up and walked tiredly out of the waiting room.

Kevin and AJ sat silently in the Fleet Center arena in Boston. AJ hadn't said a word to him in over two
weeks.
"AJ come one, please. We need to work this out."
"Why? You can just replace me. You didn't seem to have any problem with that when we had this
conversation last week so why care now."
"Ouch! AJ don't be like this. I know we need a break, I know we're all tired, I know we all want to go home
and sleep till three in the afternoon. Can you honestly tell me if someone didn't write you, that you'd ignore
them and put yourself ahead of them even if it means that person died without meeting you?" Aj looked
interestingly at an ant that was carrying a crumb past his left shoe. He'd do anything to look into the face of
the dad figure of the band.
"Alex." Kevin spoke gently touching his elbow. AJ broke his gaze and looked up.
"Kev, It's not that easy to say that. You know me well enough to know I'd do anything for my fans. But
come on I've just had enough."
"Sorry AJ I didn't know you'd adopted the Diva attitude when you were in rehab." AJ shot up from his seat.
"What?! How dare you say that to me! You have no idea what I went through. Ok fine! do you know why I
don't want to do this? It's because my cousin died of it!" Kevin, and Brian who'd come up to see who was
yelling and why, stood with their mouths open. Kevin sent a look to Brian that told him to please leave.
Brian did.
"Oh shit AJ I had no idea! Man I'm so sorry! When did it happen?" Kevin asked putting a hand on AJ's arm
in support.
"Remember when the tabloids said I went off to Hawaii, with that gorgeous bartender I met in Paris?" (sorry
I can't spell that word guys)
"Yes. why?" Kevin said thinking to that stupid rumor six months ago. Then recognition crossed his face.
"Oh my god. AJ why didn't you tell us. We'd have given you as much time off as you needed. So you won't
go see this girl because she reminds you of Marisa your cousin?" AJ nodded. Kevin felt horrible.
"AJ I'm so sorry dude." He hugged AJ for a second before pulling away when his cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Kevin? It's Janet." Kevin walked into the hall and went into his dressing room.
"Hi. How's my favorite fan?" He asked, sitting on the couch.
"Well, she was replaced on the organ recipient list, because the lungs they found were damaged. I'll be
honest with you. I'm scared."
"I understand. I know I will do anything I can to make sure we help out Kara. In fact, tonight's concert's
proceeds are going to the National CF foundation." Janet took in a breath sharply.
"Um would you like to come over and see her now? She's still unconscious, but even if she knew at least
one of you would be there, it may help her wake up faster and fight harder." Kevin looked at his watch. It
was just four now. The concert didn't start till seven and Children's hospital where they had been with Kara,
was five minutes away.
"I'll be there in half an hour, Janet." Janet smiled as she put the payphone back on it's hook.

Kevin drove to the hospital with Billy one of his guards. Billy had promised not to say a word since he didn't
want to make all the other boys worry about where they were going. The building came into view, and Kevin
took a deep breath as he got out of the SUV.
"Ok Janet should be right in the door Billy. She's got short blonde hair and she's about five ten. Here she is I
see her." Kevin went to a woman standing by the door.
"Richard?" She asked not wanting to draw attention to Kevin. Kevin nodded.
"Hi. Come with me. She's in ICU for now." Kevin followed her up to the sixth floor and went to a room door.
"Go in. She can't speak, but she'll know you're here." Janet said motioning to the closed door. Kevin leaned
against the wall, gathering strength.
"Ok here I go" He said opening the door.
He walked slowly to the bed and looked down. Kara, limp little body laid gently on the bed and he could see
her struggle for breath. It hurt him so much he almost left right there.
"Kara, Kara. Hey sweetheart, wake up. I need you to hear me. You'll be ok, sweetie. I won't let you down. In
a few days the others will come. And I hear Howie's looking for a new girlfriend." He joked trying not to cry.
There was a still as Kara opened her eyes and frantically tried to pull out her breathing tube, setting off an
alarm. Two nurses rushed in. The saw Kara was excited and one of them calmed her down enough to tell her
to stay still.
"I'm sorry, miss. I didn't mean to get her excited like that," Kevin apologized.
"It's ok sir. Here let me get her a pen and pad and she can communicate with you through that." Sylvia her
nurse had gone to get that stuff while the other nurse had leaned over and fixed Kara's tube and left.
"Here, sir. My name's Sylvia if you need me." She handed Kevin a black Sharpie and a big pad. Kara took
the marker and wrote Hi Hot Stuff. Kevin blushed and leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. Kara
grinned. Thanks, she wrote back and underlined the sound MMM. Kevin chuckled.
"Hey hun I need to go have a shower but I'll be back either tomorrow or the next day." Kara wrote, Ok
thanks for coming. Kevin left feeling better.

Chapter 4

Author's Note:
Hey guys. I didn't expect four reviews already. If that last chapter was sort of strange, it was 2:30 in the
morning when I updated. Ok now to the BSB's point of view.
and as always Review! and go check out Summer's work it's fabulous!!
bye for now!

Howie sat listening to his walkman. Brian paced the dressing room. AJ and Nick were gone getting water or
something. Howie shut off his Discman and spoke.
"Where is Kev? I haven't seen him, or Billy, since about four."
"Your guess is as good as mine D. He'd better hurry up if he doesn't want to miss sound check." Nick,
followed by a grinning AJ came in.
"Yo guys!" Nick said plopping down on one of the couches barely missing the stack of Howie's CD's.
"Why are you so happy?" Asked Brian looking at his mate with curious eyes.
"Oh no reason,"
"Translation, he got a chick's number." AJ confessed feeling the stare Nick sent him.
"Shut up, Bone. You got one too." AJ smiled knowingly.
"Any news on Kiev yet?" Asked AJ glancing at his watch which read 6:30. As if on cue, Kevin strode in
looking happy but they could see the tear stained cheeks.
"Kev where have you been? We have ten minutes to go before sound check." Brian demanded.
"Bri chill. Let's go," Kevin said walking toward the stage with no further explanation. As the others stood to
leave, they all made notes to talk to Kevin and get the story later.
The show went off with out a hitch until the last song. The fans were great screaming and saying things like
how much they loved their favorite member. The last song they were going to do, was I'll Never Break your
Heart. Kevin took the Mike and held up a hand.
"Ladies and gentlemen, can I get some quiet for a minute?" He asked politely as the crowd settled down.
"My band mates don't know this, and I think it's time to tell them. Brian, Howie, AJ, Nick, I went to see
someone today. This little girl struggles for each breath. Her whole life revolves around this illness known
as Cystic fibrosis. She's only 12, but I think she's about the bravest person I know. So if it's cool, I want all
the band, dancers, and crew to leave the stage." Everyone looked surprised for a minute before the band
members left the stage along with the seven dancers also.
"Ok now I need you guys to be quiet because not only is this going to be in acapella, but I'm going to
record it with a message from all of us. any objections?" Not one person spoke. It may be because almost
everyone both male and female, had tears either in their eyes or running down their cheeks. Kevin signaled
for one of the stage hands to help him and a recording started.
"Hey Kara. This is Kevin the one who saw you today. I hope you're better sweetie. I want to dedicate this
song to you with love from me and four other ugly guys." All four yelled Hey! in unison before laughing.
"Hola Mi amor. quierro tu vida tener mucha divertida." Howie spoke in Spanish. He said he wanted her life
to have a lot of fun.
"Hey It's Brian. I hope you kick CF's butt because it doesn't deserve to hurt someone like you." Nick spoke
then.
"Hey girl. Ok so I'm only the youngest member but I want you to feel better because I want that first dance
to be with me." AJ spoke last feeling choked up.
"Kara, I don't know what to say. I wish I could know you are ok but since you aren't here, I'll have to make a
wish. I wish you long life, happiness, and love." Kevin blinked back the tears as he looked out into the
audience. Still no one had either spoken or breathed since they started this whole thing. Then they launched
into the song. At the end, the audience gave them a standing ovation for what they'd done.

Kara groaned as she opened her eyes the next morning. She hated how anesthesia made you feel. Her mom
was right by her bed watching her.
"Mom," Kara whispered faintly.
"Hun does anything hurt?" Kara shook her head.
"I'm thirsty and hungry. Will they let me eat anything yet?" Janet nodded.
"How about some scrambled eggs and bacon?" Kara smiled. As Kara was eating, Janet's cell phone rang.
"Hello?" She said walking into the hall to answer it.
"Janet it's Billy. I'm Kevin's security guard or one of them. Anyway Kevin asked me to drop off something to
Kara. Is it ok if I come now?"
"Sure. She got her breathing tube out late last night and she's eating some breakfast. Is any of your group
with you? I think she may be a little embarrassed if they saw her like that. She doesn't even know Kevin
knows yet."
"No, no one's with me. They are all in meetings." Billy said holding the small package in his hands. Janet
told him he could come by and he hung up and walked over since his hotel was only a block away. He came
up to Kara's room.
"Kara? I'm Billy and I have something for you." Kara eyed the six foot four man suspiciously.
"It's ok I understand you don't know me. but my client is on this," He said handing her a tape.
"Umm, ok." She put the tape in and played it. Her eyes nearly dropped out of her head when she heard the
voices and their messages to her. She grinned at Howie's Spanish. Wow, he is romantic, she thought. But in
about a half second, life began to get back to it's usual routine as coughing took over. This time, she
coughed so hard that blood came up. Billy who had been there for a few minutes rushed out to get some
help as he saw her struggle to breathe normally. Kara didn't know what had happened. She'd coughed up
stuff before. Sure it was gross to look at but it was never blood. Her mom raced back in and started
pounding her chest trying to loosen up the stuff. Nothing worked and instead of helping, she had actually
made it worse because in addition to hurting her, she had left bruises. Unintentionally of course. Doctors
worked for over an hour to figure out what was wrong. Billy stayed outside because he was unsure what
would happen. Even when his pager went off he ignored it. Nothing was more important then Kara right
now.
After more then three hours, Janet and Bob sat in the waiting room looking tired. Billy came and sat next to
them. He noticed tear stained eyes from both of them.
"Can I ask if things are ok?" It was a stupid question because he knew the answer but asked anyway.
"She's dying. Her coughing up blood like you saw, means that her lungs are beginning to fail. I just called
the CF foundation and no one knows if she will even make it to next week because that was when they might
have found a new pair of lungs for her." Billy was saddened. He got up and walked back to his room and
called an emergency meeting of all five of them. Somehow, someone had to either save her, or make her last
few days, and he hoped it was days not minutes or hours, as good as they could get.

Chapter 5
Author's note
Hey all! Ok another chapter comes now. This is mostly going to be in BSB form. bye for now,
Velvet

All five men stared at Billy who had just briefed them on Kara's condition. He needed their help.
"Ok so what happens now? Do we go visit her right now? Call her Mom, what?" Kevin asked. He knew
better since he'd just seen her the previous day.
"I wish I knew, guys. How much did the CF foundation get from that show?"
"Five hundred thousand dollars." replied Brian glancing at a sheet of paper he had with him. Nick and AJ sat
in shock. Howie didn't know what to do since he didn't really know much about her.
"Wait a second. What about something like an autograph signing." Nick thought of.
"Nick, that's a good idea but we need something a lot sooner then that." Billy pointed out.
"How about trying to find a new set of lungs." AJ suddenly put in. All four men stared in shock at AJ.
"Dude that sounds good, but what are you going to do? Go up to someone and say give me all your money,
jewelry and oh yeah. Your lungs?" Nick asked. Billy couldn't help it and laughed slightly at that.
"Stop goofing Attorney Carter." Kevin said grinning too. They all sat there for a while until AJ stood up
when his cell phone rang.
"Yo." It was his mom. She'd informed him that her godson, Michael, was killed in a motorcycle accident. AJ
didn't know him so he didn't really feel all that sad. Then he smacked Nick upside the head so hard that
Nick's drink went flying as he put a hand to his head.
"Ow! AJ! Why'd you do that? and That hurt!" Nick said rubbing the huge welt on his head.
"Sorry bro. Mom, how about donating Michael's organs." He'd said that into his phone.
"I know who can use a set of lungs and the sooner the better." Kevin got AJ's hint, and grabbed his own
phone and called Kara's doctors. Within three hours, Michael's lungs were being flown by private jet to
Boston.

The plane landed and the nurses and doctors from children's hospital rushed to get them into the testing
lab. Now all they needed to do was convince Kara to go to sleep and they thought Nick and the guys could
do just that.
Janet led Kevin and the others to Kara's room. She was still in ICU.
"Ok guys. She can't speak because of tubes, she has pen and paper to communicate, and Kevin, watch out
and don't get her excited." Kevin sort of blushed knowing he'd seen her try and kill herself she was so
happy. They all walked in quietly.
Kara sat down her book as she heard the door open. If this is Mom again, I'm gonna shoot her. She won't
stop bugging me. Then she felt two lips on her cheek and involuntarily blushed at them. Kevin leaned up
from his bent position and watched recognition take hold of her face. Kara's eyes settled around the room
landing on each boy in turn who kissed her cheek. She mouthed Pen Please. Kevin slid the marker back into
her hand and she wrote. Nick, slobbery kiss. Kevin, mmm. Howie, Muy bien! Very good! Brian, chapped lips.
AJ, you're a player so who cares. They read there little comments and laughed. AJ cracked up at Nick's
message.
"Hey Kara thanks a lot. See if I ever sing with you again." Nick said laughing. His attitude changed in a
second as tears streamed down Kara's face. AJ sent him a questioning look. Nick gently brushed one away
and wrote, Hun I didn't mean that. Don't cry, please. Kara shakily took the pen back. she wrote, I want that. I
want to sing. I want to dance. How hard is it to have a damn normal life!! Why was I cursed with this
monster who beats my ass whenever it feels like it?! You have it all. I want that. She put the pen down and
began to cry again. Nick leaned over her and put an arm gently around her skeletal frame.
"God girl eat! You're so darn thin, I can crack you in half with one finger!" He tried to help but Kevin sent
him a look and he backed away. AJ bent down next to her.
"Kara, listen. No one blames you for having CF and you shouldn't either. It's just something life throws at
you. Take me for example. I have a third eyelid." He pulled down his left eye showing yet another little
eyelid. This completely grossed out his band mates, because they'd never seen it and because it looked like
he could flip his eyelid inside out. Kara looked shocked and wrote, gross! AJ you are strange. Now where's
mi amor? Howie read that and leaned down.
"Hun, I know you're scared but you can make it. I promise. and hey I'll get you anything you want the
instant you get out of here. And don't say AJ! No one wants him." Kara sort of smiled. She wrote, I love all
of you. Now I need sleep but will someone hold onto my hand? Kevin smiled at her and asked her who she
wanted. She chose AJ out of all people. When asked why, she said because he loves McDonalds. He
grinned at that.

After three hours of testing was done, the lungs were set to go into Kara's body. Kara was told she may
have another chance and was given anesthesia again. After she drifted off, doctors worked for six hours to
transplant Michael's two healthy lungs into her sick body. Not one bsb member moved the entire time. They
knew Kara was a strong person they just hoped she could make it.

chapter 6
Author's note:
This might be the last chapter. And I know I'm so evil! lol. I might turn it into a friendship for Kara and the
boys if she gets better fast enough. I don't really know what's going to happen. I'll write more and hope you
review! later,
Velvet

Aj paced the room watching everyone. It was just like Marisa again. The tightness in his chest, the anger in
his eyes, everything was boiling in him. He hated to see sick kids, but someone so sweet like Kara, it hurt
five times worse. He looked at the leader of the group, Kevin. Kevin was watching an old rerun of The
Cosby Show, not really paying any attention. Kevin knew how to make things ok again. Even when he was
mad at him, he didn't even really stay mad because he knew Kevin meant well when he arranged the meeting.
He walked and stopped near Brian. Brian sat trying to read a magazine, but having little luck. Brian's eyes
were bloodshot from lack of sleep. This was nothing new since all of them were like that. AJ looked at Nick
now. Nick was sleeping well dozing, one arm behind his head, the other leaning on his chin as a pillow. Last
of all he looked at Howie. Howie sat staring off into space not sure how to react. He'd never seen a girl like
Kara work so hard to take something as simple as a breath. Nick woke up and looked at AJ who now stood
in the center of his group.
"AJ would you stop pacing please? You're driving me nuts."
"I can't help it Nick. Anyone want a soda?" He volunteered. They all gave their orders and AJ along with
Marcus went to get them. As they went out the private waiting room door, Janet came running up with a
small smile on her lips.
"AJ! She's awake! Thank God! Thank God!" Janet said throwing her arms around AJ. Taken back for a
second, AJ hugged her back.
"That's great. Is she ok?"
"She needs to stay in ICU for the next two weeks at least while she gets used to her new gift. AJ, I never did
thank you for what you did. I'm sorry about Michael but I can't believe you were so generous."
"Janet, if I wasn't, then I would be out of a job. I did it because I knew Kara needed help. She's a wonderful
girl. I hope you know that." Marcus, his bodyguard, who had watched grinned. AJ gently let go of Janet's
hand he'd been holding and walked away to get the drinks. Janet went in and informed all of them Kara made
it through surgery ok.
"Guys why don't you all go home and get some sleep. you look exhausted." Kevin stood and stretched. He
went around tapping the heads of all the guys but pulling on Nick's ear.
"Ow! Dammit that hurt Kev! Why does everyone wake me up painfully like that?"
"Because you're the youngest and stupidest." That little wise crack came from Janet. All looked at her in
astonishment.
"What/ Can't I pick on you guys too?"
"Sure. How about we all go for a quick bite to eat." AJ had come in with four Pepsi's a coke and a water for
Janet.
"AJ you want to go get some food?" Kevin asked popping his Pepsi open. AJ agreed and they all went
downtown to a pizza place. They ate a quick lunch before they went back to the hospital. Janet's pager went
off. Seeing it was her husband's cell phone, she went in her purse to get hers. She'd somehow lost it.
"Damn. Hold on I gotta make a quick call, guys." She said pulling into a store. Kevin handed her his phone.
"Here. I'm not trying to be rude but if you stop here, we'll be mobbed." He said gesturing to the crowd of
kids and adults about fifty feet away. Janet understood and dialed her husband's cell phone.
"Hello hun what's up?" Asked Janet. Janet's face fell.
"Kara went into lung failure this morning. Hun, they don't know if they can save her. They're working their
asses off right now. Oh crap doctor Serino just came in. Gotta go." He hung up. Janet's eyes teared up
quickly. Kevin reached over and patted her shoulder.
"What is it?" He asked.
"Take the wheel," was all she could say at the moment. Kevin did and he drove them back. No one said a
word. Nick put a hand on her arm also.
"Kara's in lung failure right now." Janet said quietly.
"What? Michael was healthy how could this happen?" AJ exploded.
"AJ, listen. We knew this was going to happen. We knew this wasn't going to buy her a lot of time."
"It doesn't matter! This was why I didn't want to get involved! I don't need to go through this again!" He
sighed defeated as they walked into the hospital.

Kara lay unconscious. Her eyes closed, and tubes coming out of everywhere. Iv's dripping fluids,
medication and other stuff hung from two poles. Her swollen chest and face, was almost unbearable to look
at. But her dad never thought of it like that. He just thought of his bubbly little girl. Running to get ice cream
with him. Running everywhere until she'd stop to cough and sometimes spit up something. He wouldn't
trade his almost thirteen years with Kara for anything. Her birthday was in two weeks and he hoped
desperately she would be well enough for the party she'd been asking about. And the only thing she
wanted was boys. He grinned now at his daughter. Her fragile hands, fragile life hung in the balance and
there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. Janet entered the room, tears still evident.
"Any word?" She whispered touching Kara's head.
"They think her body might be rejecting the new lungs." Janet sank into a chair.
"They put her on drugs that are stronger then what they'd started her on. They don't want to get two
aggressive, because it will make her heart weaken if they push to hard. I think the thing we need to do now
is just sit and wait. They sat and waited for what seemed like hours until Kara motioned her Mom over.
"I need my guys," She used her lips to form the words. Janet didn't want the boys to see her like that. She
had seen how difficult it was for them not to cry before, and they were going to definitely lose if they waged
that battle again.
"Hun they need sleep. Sweetie just try and rest for now." Kara made a face.
"I want them when I get out of here." Her mom agreed.
Two weeks later, the drugs seemed to be helping her. Kara could go home, but since it was the middle of
July she had to be careful doing a lot in the heat. And she can't dive into swimming pools. and on August
fifteenth, Kara sat in a seat on an airplane to go see her guys again. This time, she could breathed normally
and hardly had to cough. She still took about sixty pills a week, but it was worth it.
Note:
Hey all. I was wrong this isn't the last chapter. Grin reviews are welcome no flames please. thanks!

Chapter 7

Hey guys! Thank you! I love the reviews! ok on with the story.

Marcus, a tall guy with brown hair, pushed his baseball hat above one blue eye. He scanned the monitor for
the flight that was due in from Logan International in just minutes. For about the twentieth time, his cell
phone rang. Without looking to see the caller, he clicked it on and said:
"Dammit Kevin. She's not here yet! So help you god, if you beep me, or call me, until I get there with her, I'll
kick your sorry butt! got it?" Click. Marcus grinned. He wouldn't ever hurt a fly, it was just nice to know he
had a power struggle with the leader of his charge, and they both loved each second they pulled this. He
finally saw flight 246 come in. He walked over to gate 3c to await the girl who was supposed to come out.
Kara grinned as the flight landed and she got her backpack off the overhead compartment. A young man
asked if he could help her. Shaking her head no, she walked down to meet Marcus. Once she saw him, a
tightness came into her chest. It'd been about three weeks since her hospital release, and true to her mom's
word, she'd gotten the boys to let Kara come to Florida. First because she could use some sun, and second
so she could relive her dreams. Marcus grinned down at her as she approached.
"Hey how ya doing?" He asked, shouldering her incredibly heavy bag.
"Oh. my. god woman! What on Earth did you put in here?" He said laughing as they got her other stuff and
went out to the limo. Kara grinned.
"Nothing I'm sure you guys won't mind seeing me in." Marcus paused, not sure if that was a sexual
comment or not. She's not even thirteen yet. He thought smiling back at her upturned face.
"Ok get your little skinny but in there. Because if Kevin pages me again, I'll shoot him. Yes you Kevin!" He
jabbed a finger at the tinted window. She couldn't see in, but it didn't matter before the door flew open.
Kevin reached a hand out and pulled her off her feet. He swung her in and sat her on his lap facing him.
"You look, amazing!" He said wrapping an arm around her. She'd gained about fifteen pounds, and her hair
looked shinier in the Florida sun. Kara smiled and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"mmm," Kevin said, mocking her first words to him. She blushed red.
"I hate you for that," She said smiling. Her alarm on her watch went off.
"Oh crap. time to take about fifteen antirejection drugs." She stated pulling about five bottles out of her
shoulder bag. Then she realized one of them wasn't in there.
"Marcus?" She called to him as he was just about to come around and get in.
"Yeah?"
" I hate to do this, but is there a chance I can get my backpack for a sec? I have a medication and I think I
left it in there." Marcus obligingly passed her the bag, apologizing as it hit Kevin in the head.
"Ow! Damn that hurt!" He looked sheepish as he thought of his mild curse.
"No problem, hot stuff." Now it was Kevin's turn to blush. Searching all through her bag, she couldn't find
it. She started to feel a little freaked. Kevin noticed and asked what's wrong.
"I don't know how, but I lost the most important medication I need. If I don't take it with in two hours, I
could go to sleep, and bye, Kara." Kevin looked scared. Kara pulled out her cell phone.
"Hey, Dave." She said after dialing a number.
"It's Kara. Look, can you send a prescription for my antirejection drug, umm, abocyclcene ASAP please? No
I know I have one, I lost it. Dammit! I know it costs money! Please? Stop making me feel like such a jerk! Fine
I'll go get some at the hospital. Thanks for nothing," She slammed down her phone. Kevin put a hand on her
shoulder.
"SSSHHH it's ok. I won't let anything happen to you." Marcus, who'd heard, told the driver to go to the
nearest hospital as quickly and safely as possible. The black limo sped off.
Kara began to feel dizzy. She grabbed Kevin's hand. He held onto hers knowing she was petrified. The limo
got there in about fifteen minutes, but by then, Kara had almost stopped breathing.
"Kara, Kara, Kara! No! No! No! Wake up!" Kevin yelled trying to force her eyes to open. Marcus grabbed
her and with one swoop, she was in his arms and he raced into the hospital.
"What's wrong with her?" A nurse asked Kevin. He gave her as much as he knew about her condition, and
told her about the drug she was supposed to have taken but couldn't. A call was put through to Boston and
after a few minutes it was decided that if given the drugs, she should regain consciousness. Kevin sat there
helpless watching. Her breathing began to ease out, and she began to sleep a little more peacefully. AJ came
running in.
"Oh shit what happened?" (Sorry guys. I swear when I get scared usually, so AJ does too.)
"She passed out pretty much," Kevin said. AJ reached down and patted Kara's cheek.
"Babe wake up. I need you to hear me." Kara stirred and grinned at AJ.
"You smell!" Was her first words to anyone. That made AJ blush. She seemed to have a talent for doing that
today. The doctor came in introducing herself as Doctor Miller.
"Looks like you gave these guys quite a scare, sweetie. Kara, I need you to do something. I need you to
hold your breath for about twenty seconds. I need to measure the pressure in your lungs to see if it's the
right number. If it is, you can leave. If not, I'm afraid you'll need to be in an oxygen tent for at least a day or
two. Kevin," She said looking at him.
"I need one of you two to hold her. I also need you to follow my instructions so which one will it be?" She
asked.
"I'll do it," AJ said sitting down on Kara's bed. Kevin looked a little surprised but let AJ do what was
needed. AJ lifted Kara onto his lap, and pushed gently on her ribs before Doctor Miller asked Kara to hold
her breath.
"Ok Kara, ready?" Kara nodded. She breathed in as hard as she could, and doctor milled put a monitor on
her back.
"Ok do me a favor. push on her ribs gently when she breathes out. As her lungs empty squeeze tighter." He
nodded. Kara mouthed, breathe? AJ shook his head, no. Another few seconds and AJ saw Kara's color
draining. Doctor Miller took one look and said breathe. Kara began to let out her breath, feeling a set of
hands rub her ribs and squeeze. The more her breath left her, the tighter they squeezed. As the end of that
long breath, Kara motioned for AJ to stop. Looking for approval which he got, he dropped his hands from
their position.
"Good news Kara. Your pressure looks good. Go have fun with these two hot men." The guys grinned.
After getting a prescription for her drug she needed and breathing in an aerosol treatment of all the drugs
she would need for the day anyway, she left with AJ and Kevin.

Two hours later, they arrived at the concert arena. Grinning at how big it was, she followed Marcus to her
won dressing room. As she plopped down a knock came.
"Yo, bone! You decent in here?" it was Nick's voice. No one but Kevin and AJ knew she was here. Nick
opened the door anyway.
"Dude, what the hell is," He stopped dead in his tracks.
"Oh. My. God! Kara!!" He said hugging her tightly.
"Ow! Nick ok, payback has been given. You're hurting me so please get your monkey paws off me?" She
grinned at his fake hurt expression.
"Ouch! Ok fine then I see how it is. Listen, I am just about to hit the stage so how about a kiss?" He asked
grinning.
"Unless you've gotten kissing practice, no way!" Kara said before jumping into his arms. She kissed Nick on
the forehead.
"that's it?" He pouted but set her on her feet as Kevin approached.
"We need a quick meeting, frack. Kara, Christen, my lovely but pregnant wife, will sit with you tonight. If
something is needed, don't you dare push it aside. Please?" His face showed a mixture of worry and concern
and also fatherly love.
"Yes, daddy!" Kevin flicked her ear as they left. The five met in the wings of the stage. After joining hands,
they looked up toward the ceiling. Kevin spoke.
"Dear God, We thank you for blessing us with our gifts. We thank you for getting all these fans here, safely.
We thank you for us getting to know a very special young lady. You have helped Kara Kenny so much. We
thank you and hope you will watch over us and her. Amen," He finished. All of them did a pulse. It was a
squeezing of hands from Kevin all the way around and back. At the end, they discussed a surprise for Kara.

Christen, although eight months pregnant, managed to sit comfortably next to Kara. Water was sitting on
the floor by their feet. Kara had reset her alarm and now looked forward to the show. Twenty minutes into
the show, the lights went out. All the fans freaked because they didn't know what had happened. Kara felt
two hands on her shoulders as she was spun gently around. Nick grinned.
"May I have this dance?" He offered a hand. Kara stunned, accepted it and Nick pulled her up onstage.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my most favorite person on stage right now, Kara Kenny!" The
audience applauded. I want It That Way, began, and Nick began to sing. As the song was halfway through,
he felt Kara slip from his hands. Catching her, he saw her face turning white.
"Kara, hun what's wrong?" the entire room went dead silent.
"Need pills," she whispered. Kevin bolted to Christen before anyone said anything. The paramedic came out
and held Kara on one side and helped her take the pills she needed. He knew, since his sister had CF too.
Kara slumped against Nick's chest, feeling the drugs begin to take action five minutes later. Once she felt
better, she apologized again.
"Shhh it's ok. I know you didn't mean to pass out." Nick said as he'd carried her back to his dressing room.
"I know, but this happened earlier when someone forgot to make sure I had my last pill bottle. I'm so stupid.
"Don't say that. You're beautiful." AJ said as he walked in to see how she was doing.
"Thanks. Listen I ruined the show. Sorry."
"No you didn't. in fact, Brian, Howie, and Kev, get in here." AJ said as his fellow boys came in.
"Kara, we all love you and this is from us to you." Kevin said. They launched into acapella of I'll Never
Break your Heart. Kara smiled feeling tears come.
"I love you," she whispered. She'd gotten to dance, and heard one of her favorite songs, but what happened
the next day, made all of them feel happy they'd seen her.

Chapter 8

Hey guys. This may be the last chapter I don't know. Let me explain a couple of things. First that comment
about not minding them seeing what Kara had brought, that was Kara's way of flirting which was why
Marcus dismissed it. The second thing, is that the reason why she lost consciousness again, was because
she had set her alarm but never noticed when it went off. It may have been the noise of the show. And being
hold by Nick didn't help either. Grin. I'm sort of wishing I didn't make Kara so young then she could have
one of the boys. Oh well. I might make a sequel or something. Ok I'll shut up now.

After the show that night, they'd all hung in the penthouse of the hotel showing what they could impress
her with. Howie, showed her how to conjugate some Spanish verbs, since she liked his accent when he
chose to have one. AJ was being AJ trying to see how hard he could get her to laugh. It wasn't to hard to do
since he kept doing stupid things like walk into walls, hit his elbow on doors, and with each ow! Kara
laughed. Kevin was being the protector of her. If he went to help someone else, he immediately raced back
to where he'd left Kara. AJ hid her behind a curtain to see what Kevin's reaction. Kevin, knowing AJ had
done something by the gleam in his eye walked over to him and demanded the safe return of her. Kara
popped out scaring them both. Nick and Brian were off playing yet another session of Mario Cart. Finally
about three they all went to bed. Well Kara did, and they went out to a club. They loved her they just
needed some male bonding. Or in AJ, and Nick's case, female bonding could be added to that list too. It was
around five thirty, when Christen woke up for her normal puke session. She and Kevin had been nice
enough to let Kara stay with them. She was flying back to Boston the day after this one. Christen walked
past to worship her porcelain altar not wanting to wake up the sleeping girl. She came out and began to walk
back to her bed to sleep, when she chose to glance down at Kara. It was a good thing she did. Kara's face
was covered in sweat, and she looked like she was having trouble breathing. Christen reached down to
touch Kara.
"Kara? Kara? Come on please hear me," She whispered. She hadn't wanted to wake Kevin up just yet. He
had just gotten back just about five o'clock. She decided she'd better since there was no response from
Kara.
"Kevin, baby wake up." Christen said shaking him. He moaned and turned over. She tabbed some ice and
tossed it down his boxers. That jolted him up with a few curses.
"Christen if you ever do that to me again," He paused when he saw she had raced back to Kara and tried to
wake her. Kevin rushed over and checked to see if she was breathing. She was but he saw more sweat cover
her forehead. He grabbed the phone and called for an ambulance. It raced them to the hospital.

At about seven fifteen, Janet's phone rang at work. She was a secretary for a large construction company.
"Cummings properties, can I help you?" She asked.
"Is this Kara Kenny's mother?" The voice asked. It was strange and unfamiliar.
"Yes. Who is this?" Asked Janet getting worried.
"This is Orlando General Hospital. We have your daughter and we need permission to treat her right now.
Please, give us the ok and then get down here." Janet dropped her cup of coffee in shock.
"Treat her," She hung up. She went to a travel website and booked two tickets to Orlando.
"Bob get packed," She told her husband when she'd gotten the arrangements made. He threw clothes into a
bag for them both and they raced to the airport. The plane felt like it was going as slow as it possibly could.
Finally it landed and Marcus met them.
"Mr. and Mrs. Kenny I wish this had been under better circumstances. Come with me," He said leading them
to a car. They drove to the hospital in silence. Once in the lobby they got information on Kara. She had a
temperature of 104 and wouldn't respond to any of the treatments they'd tried so far. The only thing to do
now was completely isolate her in an oxygen tent. No visitors, and anyone who went in had to wear special
clothes. It was decided to try that with Kara. Cystic fibrosis doesn't give you an age when it takes your life.
Kara was thirteen but some people live with it into their thirties. After receiving this news, the tow parents
went into the waiting room. Kevin and Christen immediately stood up. Kevin put his arms around Janet
while Christen held onto Bob.
"I'm so sorry this happened," Kevin said trying not to show emotion.
"I mean we didn't let her exert herself. I just want to help her." A doctor poked his head in.
"Hi who's the Kenny family?" He knew the BSB so he figured the only other people must be family. Kara's
parents walked over to him.
"Hi I'm doctor York. I just checked on Kara about ten minutes ago. I'm afraid things don't look well right
now. Her fever won't come down, her color is draining, and her lungs are filling up with fluid faster then we
can drain it. I honestly don't think she will make it through tonight. I'm sorry," He finished and looked at the
two stunned human beings before him. They wanted to see her. Doctor York led them to a glad window
where they could look in. Kara lay all tubbed up, struggling to breathe. You could tell. The Kenny's just
stood there in disbelief. Their only girl was dying. That much was clear. AJ suddenly appeared and tapped
them on the shoulder. They jumped a little but turned.
"I just wanted to see how she's doing," He said glancing in. Tears stung his vision so much he barely had
time to walk backwards away from the window.
"I didn't think she was in that bad of shape," AJ whispered. Kevin Nick and Brian, who'd come looking for
AJ found him leaning against the wall.
"Bro you ok?" Brian questioned. Aj just pointed to the window where Kara's parents still stood transfixed
on their daughter.
"Look," was the only word he could speak. The three others looked where he'd said and their faces went
white.
"AJ, I'm so sorry," Nick said giving him a hug. AJ stood there motionless. Suddenly they heard beeps
coming from Kara's window. They all rushed to see what it was. Kara's alarm for everything went off.
Doctors and nurses raced to save her. But in the end, there was no use. Kara died at 11:35 on August
sixteenth. Just one month before her thirteenth birthday.

After that, the boys tried piecing their lives back together but there was always something missing. Howie
and Brian broke away a few years later to start a solo project, Nick and Kevin tried to continue the success
of their model train business. (Don't ask I didn't know any other weird thing to put them into.) Aj took it the
worst. He wouldn't eat or sleep for months until he found out one day that a lump on his hand was
cancerous. It was removed and so far he's doing fine.
