Summary: Collage students Tom and Alex absolutely hate each other with a passion. But what if they were forced to be dance partners in a show, that held their futures in it's success? Would they get along or would it spark even more aggression? Tom/Alex M/F

Chapter 1

An annoying Beep sounded through the once peaceful room, making a disheveled lump of covers groan; as if telling the alarm to shut up in an unknown language.

A pale, delicate hand stretched out from within the den of blankets, patting and flailing around across the wooden bedside table; searching and failing for the continuous beeping just out of its reach.

With, what sounded like and indignant groan, the lump inched near the edge of the bed, giving the hand the much needed distance towards the grating sound and, with an effective slam against the big snooze button, plunging the room into blissful silence once again.

Less than five minutes after the hand fell limply against the side of the bed….

“ALEXANDRIA! GET YOUR LAZY BACKSIDE OUT OF BED THIS INSTANT!”

The recorded voice of a middle aged woman screeched through out the room, causing the lump jerk half a foot in the air out of shock before it tumbled over the edge and onto the floor, bringing fourth yet another groan.

“I will not have you being late on your first day back!” the voice continued as Alex sat up, rubbing her shoulder and letting the covers fall from over her brunette head, revealing a sleepy scowl and hair style that resembles a bird nest.

The recording lectured on “Make sure…” before suddenly being interrupted by a loud cracking sound as the machine smashed head first into the opposite wall, Alex’s drowsy glare following until she was satisfied it wasn’t going to start up again any time soon. Tiredly rubbing the sleep from her eyes, the brunette turned in the direction of the bathroom, grumbling about how the annoying wake up calls were supposed to stop when she moved out.

The plain grey coloured door closed with a small thud and a muffled click sounded before the owner of the single apartment strode quickly down the corridor in a hurried manner, shrugging her heavy bag further up her shoulder and holding it in place with one hand while the other wrenched open the next door in her way.

‘Bags were supposed to make carrying all her books easier’, Alex thought to herself in annoyance, ‘but had only managed to make the task more of a nuisance when she had to adjust it every five minutes’.

Especially when she was in a hurry. Like now.

She quickly made her way down the flight of stairs in the apartment building and on to the long road that would lead her to ‘The Concrete Hell of Forced Learning’; as she liked to call it.

Alex sighed gloomily as said building loomed into view after a short walk.

In the back of her mind she could imagine dark clouds forming with accompanying music similar to those from horror films, while lighting flashed dramatically in the back ground.

She pulled a hair band from her baggy worn black jacket and began scraping her wavy locks into a messy high pony tail in preparation for the day ahead.

In reality it was a rather nice day, not that she really cared. Alex was one of the more… ‘Anti social’ teenagers; as her best friend’s mum like to call them. Preferring to lazy away in the library, reading up on whatever took her fancy that day; although she did find something worth smiling about whenever the sun came out.

It meant the school would be presently quite while the Barbies’ and their mindless dogs (Aka brainless guys) would spend all the time they could outside and taking the necessary steps towards skin cancer and premature wrinkles. (Not that they knew that).

The library was her favourite place in the school; it was quiet and bimbo free, with shelves and shelves of knowledge just waiting to be absorbed. She had always been like a sponge when it came to knowledge, soaking it up and asking for more but school seemed to suck the fun out of it on purpose, trying to give you only the information you needed to pass exams rather than want you actually wanted to know.

Satisfied with her hair, Alex adjusted her bag yet again as she walked through the light grey metal gates, flanked by the neutral brick walls that surrounded the school grounds; supposedly there to make it look less like a prison.

“Hey, Ali”

Alex’s dark brown eyes whipped around to the source of the sound before she was suddenly jumped on by a white and black blur.

Ahh and how could she forget, the library was where she met Liz; the best friend she could have ever asked for.

“Come on, quick!” Liz hissed and Alex suddenly found her self being dragged into the building down winding corridors by the wrist.

Liz had black, long hair that fell a bit longer than Alex’s, reaching a few inches below her middle back when straightened like it was now. She also had the same style of clothing; mainly black, and loose although she prefers tank tops in summer weather like today, but her skin is still as pale as Alex’s from all the time they spend indoors.

“Liz, what the hell have you done now?!” the brunette hissed back as she was shoved into a small closet. Oh this brought back memories.

“Tell you later” was the reply before another body squeezed itself in next to her.

This wasn’t an uncommon thing in Alex and Liz’s life. They might like reading and learning but they weren’t, by any means, boring.

Mischief filled the minutes where they had no access to their books. Either that or the teachers were boring them to insanity, but in that case the staff only had themselves to blame.

High school had become very dull, very fast for the top students and thus was made fun with mixing explosive chemicals in science lessons, the odd prank in lessons to make it more interesting and of course hacking into the school database and planting a few harmless, but inventive viruses.

The school admins had been quite baffled the first few times a ballerina had popped up on screen, dancing away to the soft music playing in the back ground before developing a rather surprising case of turrets. They hadn’t really found it as funny as Alex and Liz, who had secretly been laughing very hard on the inside.

6th Form had been more challenging but had only caught them off guard for the first few weeks; buying the staff time to write up extra lesson work for them in emergencies’. The two bright girls had got themselves back on track with their work and still had time for a bit of fun on the side.

“Listen” Liz whispered quietly into Alex’s ear, after realising that the brunette couldn’t see the finger she’d pressed against her lips telling her to be quiet in such a dark room. Both girls were completely comfortable being pressed against each other so tightly, they’d been in worse positions during their long friendship; both being more interested in what was going to happen next.

“Where the fuck did she go?” a high pitched voice squealed down the corridor.

“Hunny bunny, its okay, it’s only a shirt, god knows you have plenty more at home” a deeper voice hushed, obviously one of the bimbo dogs trying to calm his hysterical girl friend down.

“Only a shirt?! Only?!” the girl squealed again “This shirt cost 60 from when Daddy went to New York!”

“Don’t worry, hunny, I’ll get her back for you” the guy said, the voices now right in front of the door to their secret hiding place

“You will?” the girl said in awe

“Well yeah sure, she’s only a girl what can she do really, I mean guys are like the better race anyway……. Hunny? Where are you going…? Did I say something wrong? Shit ….. Bunnikins..?” The sound of retreating foot steps could be heard before Alex and Liz burst out of the small room, laughing and gripping their side in mirth.

“Oh My God, that was so what I needed today, what Did you do to her?” Alex said still holding her aching sides as she wiped stray tears from under her eyes.

“Sling shot to her ice cream. Went straight onto her shirt” as soon as the words left her mouth, both were laughing again.

Thankfully the corridor was deserted to this display of insanity, but by the time they calmed down Liz new they only had five minutes to get ready with a quick glance to her wrist watch.

“Come on, we might be able to pass any test they throw at us but I don’t want a blemish on my record for tardiness, so get your big boobs moving”

“Liz” she hissed, feeling her face heat up at the comment. This wasn’t new either, her breast size. They were quite similar in body shape and size - Alex only being an inch or so taller standing at 5’6 – apart from that little fact.

Very very few people new her actual boob size and she wanted to keep it that way.

Liz had convinced her to use it as a challenge. She wasn’t going to let her breasts influence her life in any way and be completely different from a lot of the girls in the school by doing this.

Although that didn’t stop her from being self conscience; hence the baggy clothes.

“Okay Okay, 4 minutes left. Got to go, bye” Liz making a hasty escape with a big grin on her face, before the brunette had a chance to blow up about the subject.

Alex grumbled something under her breath about having a completely insane friend before making her way to Mondays first lesson; Maths..

Oh Joy…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The day soon found the girls back in their sanctuary; the peaceful library.
As expected, it was empty save for the two friends, who were currently enjoying the freedom of being with their books.
Alex had picked up a book on Japanese designs from the days before Japan opened up to the western world, as well as having a few books about more modern designs, for her art project, while Liz choose to read about Celtic designs from all ages, also having a neat little pile of other books for her art project.
Unfortunately, the day being so nice and all, the room was also like an oven. Liz had managed to talk Alex into taking her jacket off after threatening that she might get sun stroke and miss an interesting lesson tomorrow.
Even though Alex new it was impossible to get sun stroke indoors, she was sweating like a pig and very uncomfortable in the heat, so had given in, leaving herself in one of the black tank tops Liz had bought her a few months ago for her 17th birthday.
But she felt a lot better for it.
It was another hour before the girls decided to go home, Liz wanting to be home early to ask her mum about Alex staying at their house for a few nights.
Gathering her books up, Liz walked up to the desk to check her books out for the week while she waited for Alex to discard the ones she didn’t want.
Thinking about her already heavy bag, Alex only wanted to take a few books home, not really planning to make an indent in her shoulder by the time the year is over.
Absently throwing the jacket over her shoulders, along with the bag, Alex reached for the three books only to watch as the top one was snatched away.
Liz made her way over to the table but stopped as she saw who had perched themselves on the table in front of Alex’s now scowling face; wisely choosing to take the librarian – who also looked to be having second thoughts about staying in the room – for a chat outside. Which was gladly accepted.
“Ve'sair” Alex spoke sharply.
“Brooks” the boy answered in the same fashion.
“What do you think your doing, Tommy?” the question was asking more as a cold warning as the now scowling girl crossed her arms over her chest.
“Why, my dear Alexandria, I am reading” he said looking up and locking his hard brown eyes with her own, his eyes partially covered by the straightened and gel styled dark hair while their noses were inches apart.
You could have cut the murderous tension with a knife.
She had always hated how he said her name, always using her full name or just last name and just dripping with sugar coated loathing, in much the same way she would say his.
Tom Ve’sair
The most Stuck up prick of them all. You had guys who thought they could beat anyone in the school, then you had bullies that would actually go and try to beat someone up for no reason..
But Tom was in a whole class of his own.
Vindictive was one word you could use to describe him, overly confident and haughty were others but most of all he was power hungry, and anyone who threatened his chance at power usually ended up on the wrong side of his temper; something only Alex herself had repeatedly stood up to so far. His charm had the staff eating out of the palm of his hand, his natural dark eyes, slender face, strong jaw and devilish smirks had girls swooning and his sharp tongue and intimidating expressions had guys backing off almost instantly.
But those rules don’t apply to Alex, which is another reason why they hate each other besides mutual dislike.
It had always been this way with them, since the first day they had set eyes on each other in the first year of high school.
But at first it had been trading glares of dislike, developing into insults, then verbal fights, as if the longer they had known each other the more they hated the other. On a few rare occasions from the 3rd year in high school, they had broken into physical fights.
Tom obviously having the upper hand with the strength, had easily pinned her down. But she had gotten her own back, eventually. He had a nice little bite mark for weeks after, making her smirk evilly at him whenever he had been hounded for information on who did it by one of his many admirers.
Alex was one of the only people to really stand up to him and bring him back from his high and mighty attitude, to ever really get to him, like digging her nails into his skin.
Through the last few years of high school they had developed this sort of attitude towards each other where merely stating the others name was like saying ‘I hate you’.
“Well I’m sorry to inform you” she said in a sickly sweat voice, snatching the book from his hands “But this book is taken” with that she gave him one more glare before grabbing the rest of her books and walking towards the door.
She heard the light thuds of his foot steps before she heard him “Actually, it isn’t yet…. No stamp in the front means its all mine” Smart ass she thought.
“Not it isn’t, I’m the one holding it you see, so its mine” she through over her shoulder.
“I can gladly change that” wrapping an arm around her waist, he used his other arm to try and pluck the book from her arms, but wasn’t ready for her to spin fluidly out of his grasp and clutch the item to her chest.
“Look” she said, pushing a hand against the fitted light brown shirt that covered his chest when he tried to make another grab for the book “Firstly, Its too hot to fight…”
“I’m not the stupid one wearing a jacket in summer..” he muttered
“Secondly!.. it’s a book, and its silly to fight over a book…”
“You never used to say it was silly to fight over a book you wanted..” he stated as he walked closer to her.
“And" … I’m tired.. leave me alone, prick”
“I need the book this week, so if you don’t mind, I’ll be fighting for it” With that he grabbed her again but decided on a very sly trick indeed.
He tickled her.
She squirmed under his cruel fingers but laughed like there was no tomorrow. “Wait” gasp “Stop” giggle “Okay ..Okay, You win”
“Oohh What was that?”
“Fuck off”
“Okay, You win….Ass” she muttered into his chest as his fingers started to tickle her sides again. Great now she had a headache.
Shoving the book into him, she said venomously “That was a dirty trick”
“I have a deadline Alexandria, so sue me” he shot at her, accepting the book.
the resort to actually take him up on the offer was on the tip of her tongue, but decided against letting it out. It wasn't the smartest thing to try and sue a Law student anyway.“Don’t worry, I’ll get you back, Tommy” she shot back, straightening her hair that had been messed up.
“Excuse me” came a shaky voice at the door way, both sets of angry brown eyes looked at the librarian who seem to shrink back at the gaze.
“Yes?” Tom said with a raised eye brow before Alex could get a word in.
“Emm…. Lizzy’s mother called, so she had to go before you finished …. Arguing.. and check in any books you take tomorrow .. I’m going home….that’s all” the women didn’t even wait for a reply before skittering away.
Alex sighed before gathering up her remaining books and heading home, well she started to anyway.
“Where’s my goodbye kiss, Alexandria?” He whispered tauntingly next to her ear.
“Aww sorry Tommy, how about a kick in the balls instead?” she turned to look at his smirking face over her shoulder.
He only chuckled in reply, it annoyed her.
He caught her wrist before it made contact with the side of his face, and turning it over, he placed a mocking kiss to the back of her hand, which she answered with a scowl.
He chuckled again. He didn’t catch her wrist that time, and it left a bright red mark on his right cheek.
Leaving quickly, she couldn’t help the sadistic smile on her face; feeling his glare digging a hole in her back.
A/N:
Well first original story… is it okay?
I’m used to fanfictions where the characters have already been made and have a background with a certain attitude, so tell me if I’ve left some really important things out or if I’m making it confusing or anything like that.  would help me a lot.
I’m trying to show the sort of relationship these two have, you probably guessed its quite aggressive but there are teasing moments that will be come clearer in the next few chapters, I hope.
