Chapter 4
Al and I swung by headquarters and picked Winry up. She was understandably upset and was quiet the whole ride back to the hotel. When we got there the worker at the front desk said that there was a phone call for her. Al and I stood behind her as she talked, apparently her employer wanted her back as soon as possible due to the amount of requests for her work piling up. She packed her bags and we took her to Central Station. I couldn’t help but feel a small amount of relief that she wouldn’t be here anymore; I didn’t want her to be hurt. Al would probably miss her more than I would; those two were always so close.
“Don’t forget to take care of your automail!” Winry lectured me sternly. Sheesh, she never changes.
“Okay.”
I almost didn’t catch her next words. “Don’t die.”
“I won’t.”
“Of course!” Al said reassuringly.
The train whistled and moved forward. And then she was gone. Tension I didn’t know I had left my body. I should be sad to see her go because she was my friend, but it was easier if I didn’t have to protect here. I used to be in love with her, when I was younger. I don’t know when I stopped. The crush I had when I was younger had left no lingering emotions with me except friendship. I suspect that if Al wasn’t in his metal body he and Winry would be a couple instead. It was unfair to think about.
Colonel Mustang picked us up and drove us to the outskirts of the city where apparently Gluttony was being contained. On the way over he cuddled an odd looking cat that I tried to make him get rid of but he wouldn’t. He claimed he found it when we were fighting Scar.
Ling’s bodyguard had sustained some injuries so a doctor Mustang trusted there was tending her. We were talking outside the room Gluttony was tied in when we heard him speak.
“Mustang?” Did that thing know Mustang from somewhere? “Mustang killed Lust.” Oh yeah, that’s right. This was the Homunculus Lust’s lackey. “Roy Mustang!” The thing shrieked, straining against it’s bonds.
Holy shit! With an extraordinary burst of power Gluttony managed to escape his bonds and took half of the place with him…it had just disappeared. Gluttony was seemingly split in half from his chin all the way down to his belly. It was a gaping black hole with long fangs all the way along the edge, poised like pincers of a spider, ready to attack. I struggled to stand up from the rubble I was half under just as those weird fangs extended themselves and shot at Colonel Mustang.
He dodged out of the way and we took off for the forest. How the hell were we supposed to fight a monster than can devour anything, even the fire Mustang sent at it? It ran after us and was about to attack again but Lt. Hawkeye shot it, momentarily disabling it. We ran to the road and met the doctor in the car halfway. The injured bodyguard rested in the back and we had to force Colonel Mustang to get in as well.
“Just go away you useless person!” I screamed at him.
“I can’t just run away when all this is happening!” He yelled just as loudly back.
“You’re just a burden!”
“You really are pretty useless Colonel.” Hawkeye agreed. I could see all the words hitting him as a smog of angst hovered near his head making me feel very smug.
“No time to chat, let’s go!” The doctor said urgently.
They left Ling, Al and I there while they sped away to safety. We hid in the forest, watching Gluttony through the bushes. The darkness gave us great cover, but unfortunately also hid other things. We heard a snapping sound and whipped around. There was a large dark horse in front of Gluttony.
“Stop it Gluttony.” The horse said. Holy shit!
“It talks!” Ling yelped in surprise. The horse turned in our direction and smirked hungrily.
“You…” In a nauseating sight it transformed slowly into a hated figure. “Long time no see, full metal bean.” Envy smirked at us hatefully.
“Who did you call a miniature plankton flea-sized itty-bitty little bean!” I yelled in anger and aimed a kick at his head that he ducked, forcing me to hit the tree instead.
“Wait!” Envy held his hands in front of him in surrender. “I’m not planning to fight you bean!”
Again with the bean! “That’s five!” I gave him a swift uppercut to the chin.
“Wha- what’s your problem!” Envy had an expression of disbelief plastered across his face.
“Twice just now! And three times in the 5th laboratory! You called me a bean! Don’t tell me you don’t remember!” Nobody calls me little! I’m not short, just vertically, er, uh, disinclined.
“Such a good memory.” Envy muttered as he hunched his shoulders and sweat-dropped.
“Don’t provoke him brother!”
“You can eat him, Gluttony,” Envy gestured at Ling, “But you can’t eat the brothers. Got it? Don’t eat the Elrics, just squinty here.”
“I see, they want us alive. Well then.” I quickly created a wall separating the two Homunculus so Ling would fight Envy and we fought Gluttony. We tried to contain him but he kept getting away.

Gluttony threw brother over the wall he put up, distracting Ling slightly. “Hey! Don’t get in the way…” Gluttony rushed at him with his abnormal mouth bared. Brother ran over and tried to push Ling out of the way but got caught up instead. I saw Envy moving out of the corner of my eye but was too intent on grabbing Edward to pay attention. I brushed against his shirt, and then he was gone in darkness.
My armored hand was gone as well. Everyone was gone except for Gluttony. I grabbed him by his neck and started shaking him in frustration. “Damn you! Let them out!”
“I can’t. I swallowed them.”
“No…No! You’re lying!” I collapsed on the ground, “BROTHER!!!”

Darkness. Everything was in darkness. I opened my eyes to more darkness. Next to me was a sparse flickering light but it didn’t help ease the black encompassing me. It stinks. Disgusting. Why am I in a place like this? Last thing I remember was Ling and I almost getting…Gluttony was about to swallow both of us. I pressed my hand over my mouth and recoiled violently.
“Blood!?” Was this what I had been lying in? A giant pool of blood? “Where the hell is this? I looked around frantically. “Al!? Ling!? Anyone!?” I caught sight of a human skull in the dull light, “What’s wrong with this place!? Hello! Anyone…” It was like I was in abyss with only a lake of blood and darkness. “Where the hell am I!?”

What do you think? Love it? Hate it? Sorry about the lack of Scar and Ed scenes but I have to work towards it. This is going to be a really long story so buckle your seat belts.
