Chapter 9- New beginnings

I woke up to the sound of Pete snoring. There was a puddle of drool on my chest, but it was kind of cute in a disgusting sort of way.
I kissed the top of his head. I felt him move on my chest indicating that he was awake. “Good morning, sleepyhead.”
Pete groaned. “What time is it?”
“It's ten o' clock.”
“Shit, it's to early to get up.”
“Come on, Pete, I'll make you breakfast.”
Pete reluctantly got out of bed with me and we went down stairs.
He sat down at the table while I went to the kitchen “Okay, Pete, what do you want to eat?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “What do we got?”
I looked in the refrigerator and in the cabinets. “Let's see. There is one egg, moldy toast, and milk.”
“Ick.”
“Oh, wait a minute, there's a brownie mix box. How about brownies for breakfast?”
Pete grinned. “I've always wanted brownies for breakfast, but mom would never let me have any.”
“Brownies it is.”
I mixed the brownie batter and put it in the oven for 20 minutes.
I sat down next to him and said, “So, how are you feeling this morning?”
Pete grinned. “I'm good, and you?”
“I'm wonderful.”
“Good.” Then he kissed my lips. I loved how soft and sweet his lips were.
The timer dinged, telling me that the brownies were ready. I pulled them out and got out the ice cream.
I fixed us each a bowl and sat down. Pete took it gratefully and started eating.
“This is good, babe.”
I laughed. “Thanks, but it's just a brownie mix, I really didn't do anything.”
“Hey, look at it this way, you could have burned it.”
“True. But I was happy to make them for you.”
Pete smiled, and kissed me on the lips, making this one last a little longer.
After we finished 'breakfast', we went out shopping and I bought three hats and a pair of sneakers. Pete payed for my sneakers and I 'thanked' him later that night.
As I layed in bed trying to get to sleep, I watch Pete's chest rising up and down. He was just so perfect. In my mind anyway.
About six months had passed with nothing exciting happening. Pete and I still were together. And I was happy. It seemed like everything was going my way.
I got a call while I was reading the paper early Saturday. It was Natasha. I thought about not answering it, but I did at the last second.
“Hello?”
“Oh, good, Patrick, you answered.”
I sat down my paper. “What do you want, Natasha?”
“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to see your baby girl.”
My heart skipped a beat and I said, “Baby girl?”
“Yeah, she looks just like you too.”
“What is her name?”
“Madison Grace Stump.”
“Why did you give her my last name?”
She paused. “I'll tell you when I get to your house, okay? I'll be there in ten minutes.”
She hung up before I could say anything. I quickly ran upstairs to change clothes and comb my hair.
I got down stairs right when the door bell rang. I nervously opened the door and let her in. She looked beautiful.
In her arms was Madison, my daughter. She was even more beautiful than her mother. I wondered how you could fall in love with someone when you just met them, but that's what I did.
Natasha sat down. “Do you want to hold her?”
I nodded and took her from her hands. She looked up at me and smiled her toothless grin. I smiled back, blinking back tears.
I looked back up at Natasha. “How are you two doing?”
Tears fell down her face. “Awful! I'm working non stop, she's keeping me awake at night, so I get no sleep! I don't know if I can do it anymore.”
She took a deep breath. “That's why I came here. I wanted to know if you wanted to take full custody of Madison, because I can't be the mother I should be to her.”
My heart stopped. “You want me to take care of Madison, full time?”
