Chapter 23- Take your tears and put 'em on ice

~Patrick~
I woke up Pete the next morning with a soft kiss on his sweet lips. His eyes fluttered open and he smiled when he saw me.

I brushed away the hair in his eyes with my fingers. “Good morning, Pete.”

He smiled groggily and said, “Good morning.”

I kissed him lightly on the lips again.

“Patrick, what's with the special treatment? Usually you're dragging me out of bed by my ankles. Which hurts, by the way.”

I shrugged and smiled at him. “I don't know, I guess I'm just still happy from last night.”

A grin spread across his face. “Oh, yeah, that.”

He laced his fingers with mine. “Pete, I'm happy that you convinced me to do it. It was a wonderful experience.”

He kissed my hand. “Yeah, I know. You were great. Best lover I've ever had. You even beat all the girls.”

“Wow, I'm surprised. I thought all the girls you slept with were expert whores.”

He laughed. “Well, that must mean you're super whore, then.”

It was my turn to laugh. “Yeah, I'm a super man whore.” I made a point of grabbing Pete's crotch.

He gave me a serious look. “Patrick, no foreplay in the morning.” He started laughing and he tackled me.

I tried to ward him off, but I couldn't and he soon had me pinned on my back.

He kissed me on my lips and I slipped my tongue in his mouth. He didn't need to pin me down anymore, so he let me go and I started to stroke the fabric between me and his hardness.

We stopped when we heard something move. Pete got off of me and I saw that it was Madison standing in the door way.

She had her thumb in her mouth and was staring at us.

Pete ran his fingers through his hair. “Good morning, sweetie, when did you get up?”

“A wittle bit ago. What were you and daddy doing?”

I got up from the bed in nothing but my boxers and picked her up. I carried her to the bed and sat her on my chest.

“Well, Madison, when you are asleep, me and daddy like to have alone time so we can do grown-up things.”

She looked at me. “Like what?”

Oh, dear lord. “Well, sweetie, we do........our taxes! Yes, we do our taxes. It's boring stuff, so we save it for when you fall asleep.”

“I sometimes wake up and hear banging. Is that you doing your taxes?”

“Um, no sweetheart, we're doing, uh, construction! Yeah, after our taxes we do some construction in the room.”

“Why does daddy yell out your name?”

I had to think of something and think of it quickly. “I sometimes drop my hammer on his toe. I'm clumsy. So he calls out my name when he's mad at me.”

“Okay.” And she kissed my lips and took off to her room.

I sighed in relief. “That was a close one.”

Pete gave me a weird look. “Taxes? Construction? You are lucky that she's too young to figure out how ridiculous that sounds.”

I shrugged my shoulders. “That was the first thing that popped into my head.”

My sidekick buzzed on the nightstand. I answered and was surprised to hear Natasha's voice. Not the mother of my child, but my fan.

“Hey, Natasha, what's up?”

“Um, Patrick, could you come pick me up?”

I sat up. “What do you mean pick you up?”

She said something but I couldn't hear her.

“What?”

I heard her mumble something and then she finally said, “Hello?”

“Yeah? What was that about?”

“Sorry, it's a little noisy here. I went into the bathroom.”

“Okay, so where are you at?”

She paused. “I'm at LAX.”

I nearly dropped the phone. “What? Why are you at the airport? And why do you need me to pick you up?”

“My mom doesn't know I'm here. I ran away.”

I dropped the phone that time and quickly picked it back up. “Okay, I'm on my way now. Just be out front.”

I hung up and I started grabbing some clothes to wear. Pete came up behind me and asked, “Where are you going?”

“I have to pick up this girl from the airport. She ran away from home.” I said as I pulled my jeans on.

“Do you want me to come with you?”

I shook my head. “No, stay home with Madison, I'll be right back.”

I brushed my hair quickly and grabbed a coat. It was chilly for California in November.

I drove as fast as I could to the airport and ran a few lights on the way. Luckily, I didn't see any cops.

When I pulled up, I saw her standing outside, holding her luggage. She looked really lost and worried.

I parked and ran up to her.

“Natasha, are you okay?” I said, giving her a hug.

She hugged back and said, “Yes, I'm okay now that you're here.”

“Come on, lets get in the car, it's cold out here!”

She laughed. “If you think that this is cold, just fly over to Kansas. It's snowing already.”

“Here, let me help you with one of your bags.”

She looked at me. “Are you sure you want to do that?”

I was confused. “Uh, yeah, I do. Why?”

“Just making sure.”

I grabbed one of her suitcases and I thought that it weighed a hundred pounds.

“Holy shit, what's in this, cement blocks?!”

She laughed. “My shoes.”

“Oh, good lord! Why do you need that many shoes?!”

She gave me a look that made me feel stupid. “Uh, so they match my outfit?”

“Oh.”

I huffed and puffed the rest of the way to my car and threw her stuff in the trunk and back seat.

I turned on some Prince to calm me down. I heard Natasha make gagging noises.

“Please, don't puke in my car, okay?”

“No, I'm not puking. Yet anyway. It's that music I'm talking about.”

I looked over at her like she was crazy. “What's wrong with Prince?”

“Well, I like one song, but he is just too gay for words.”

“He is not gay.”

“Is too.”

“Is not.”

“Is too.”

“Is not infinity.”

“Is too infinity plus one.”

“Damn, you win, okay?! What kind of music do you like, anyway?”

She smiled. “Fall Out Boy.”

“I should have known. Anything else?”

“Nothing worth listening to.”

I shook my head. “So, our music is the only music you listen to?”

“Yep.”

“Have a CD?”

“I have all of them in my purse.”

“Okay, pick one out.”
She reached into her purse and pulled out Under The Cork Tree. Great, my least favorite one.

She put it in the slot and turned it up. I instantly saw calmness in her face.

“What? Does this relax you or something?”

She smiled with her eyes still closed. “Yes. The sound of your voice relaxes me. It also turns me on.”

I chuckled. She sat up and turned the song to Of All The Gin Joints In All The World.

You only hold me up like this,
Cause you don't know who I really am.
Sometimes I just want to know what it's like to be you.

“Natasha?”

“Hmm?”

“You do realize that you have to go home soon, right?”

Her eyes flew open. “No, I don't want to go home. Please, don't make me go back!”

She started hyperventilating and crying.

I turned down the music. “Hey, don't cry. What's wrong?”

Her whole body was shaking as her tears fell to her lap.

I put my arm around her. “Come on, tell me why you ran away.”

She calmed down a little. “I just had to get away. My friends hate me, the boys I like don't like me back and my mom and I are constantly fighting. I couldn't take it anymore.”

“Why did you choose to come here?”

She looked up at me with her eyes still red. “Because you're the only one that understands me. And sometimes I love you more than I love myself.”

“Natasha, I just don't know if your mom would let you stay here.”

“Well, she's gonna have to because I'm not coming back. If you don't let me stay at your house, I'll just go to my cousins house. Even though she's anorexic and has three kids.”

I sighed. There was no way that she was gonna change her mind. “Look, you can stay here if your mom says yes. You can call now.”

I handed her my phone.

“Mom?”
“I'm in California. I'm sitting in Patrick's car.”

“Uh, Patrick Stump, duh.”

“Mom, I don't want to go back. I need a break. Can I please stay with them? They said that I could.”

“Mom, I understand, but I just can't deal with the whole moving in with Brian yet. He's a nice guy, but I'm just kinda freaked out.”

“Yes, moving in with Patrick is way different! I love him!”

“Please, just let me stay. I'll come home. Eventually.”

“Okay, thank you so much. I love you. Bye.”

She hung up and gave the phone to me. “Looks like I'm your new roommate.”
