To Rise and Be in Love
When Gerard wakes up, Frank is there in a hot second, right by his side.
?Blocked
Frank woke up from a fitful sleep, curled in a tight ball on his bed. He was jerked out of his weird nightmares by the sound of his phone ringing on the bedside table. With a start he awoke, composing himself and reaching for the phone.
"Mmm...hello?" he murmured, still half asleep.
"Hey, Frank," Mikey's voice. Frank shot up, instantly awake.
"What is it? Is something wrong? Did something happen--"
"Frank! Relax. It's Gerard; he's awake."
Frank jumped out of bed, still in his clothes from last night. "Okay, I'm coming right now," he hung up the phone, stuffing it in his pocket and running out of the house. He ran all the way to the hospital, not stopping to rest for a moment. He tore through the halls, up the stairs, and into Gerard's room. He was panting, out of breath, sweaty, and there were dark crescents built up underneath his eyes.
But Gerard thought he looked amazing. When Mikey saw Frank come in, he stood up, pat his friend on the shoulder, and walked out to give them some privacy.
Gerard stared at Frank, drinking in every detail of his appearance. His eyes racked over his hair, his face, his chest, his legs, everything. The younger boy walked over and sat gingerly on the edge of the bed. It was then that Gerard noticed the absence of Frank's usual lip piercing, replaced by 10 or so tiny stitches. There was also the remenants of a black eye, and a small white bandage over the bridge of his nose. Gerard winced just looking at it.
"I'm...so sorry, Frankie," he said, truly feeling it.
"Gerard, it's not--"
"No!" He said, a little too forcefully. He clutched his pounding head and pressed on. "It is my fault. I should have..."
"What could you have done? You saved me. They would have done to me what they did to you if you hadn't come by. And how do I thank you? You're being waled on and I just..."
"You passed out, Frank! I saw you try to save me." The two boys looked at each other for a moment before deciding to mutually forgive each other. "Well," Gerard said, looking down and fumbling around with the blankets. "How's school been? What happened to Bob?" He asked. He was dying to know if Bob and his cronies got expelled.
"Well, Bob and all the other assholes got suspended for two weeks. Everyone was talking about it. But what about you? Have you talked to the doctor yet? When do you get to go home?" Frank asked, trying (and failing) to mask his eagerness to know.
"Yeah, I talked to her. Briefly. She didn't say much. She said we'd discuss it after I'd had some time to adjust to everything--"
As if on cue, at that moment a redheaded doctor with a clipboard walked in.
"Hello," she said primly. "I'm Dr. Rhodes. I understand you've made quite a comeback, young man," she smiled warmly at Gerard, who nodded.
"Yeah," he said. "Why did they tell my brother that I'd never wake up?" He asked this somewhat bitterly; not for being wrong, but for scaring Mikey.
"Well..." she said, caught slightly off-guard. "You must understand, Mr. Way, that it seemed very likely that you wouldn't wake up. You took several nasty blows to your temples and the back of your head, in addition to suffering some organ damage, a lot of which seemed beyond healing. I'm very sorry that we scared your family, but I'm very glad we were wrong. Yes?"
Gerard decided to relent; she was right, he had woken up and that was all that mattered. "Yeah, I guess."
"Good. Now, we were able to contact your mother, and she's been informed that you can be discharged from the hospital in a few days' time. We just need to run some tests to make absolutely sure that everything is functioning properly, and then you're all set to go home. Alright?"
"Yeah," said Gerard, glad that he wouldn't have to be stuck here for too much longer. "That's great."
The doctor nodded and walked out.
"See?" Gerard turned to Frank. "I'm fine. I get to go home in just a few days." Frank smiled, relieved.
"I know," the younger boy said. "I'm glad."
Gerard scooted over in the bed, patting the empty space next to him. "Here, I'm cold." Frank hesitated. "Just for a minute? Don't leave me alone," the guilt trip worked, and Frank settle back into the bed, closing his eyes, finally feeling able to relax. Gerard slipped his head onto the younger boy's chest, and they both fell asleep.
Okay, hello! I know that this chapter is somewhat short, especially since it took too long to write. I don't know, I got slightly blocked on it and wasn't sure how to send it in the direction that I need it to go.
But as we all know, ladies and gents, it's that wonderful time of year once more! That magical time, known as: ALLERGY SEASON! Whee! Ehh, yes, that's right. Allergies. My nose is stuffed, my eyes are red and watery, I can't even keep makeup on for more than an hour or so, my throat is on fire, and there is so much pressure building up behind my sinuses, I think my head is about to explode. Ahhhh it hurts like a bitch. So I'm sorry if it takes just a little longer to be updating for a while, as the light from the screen gives me headaches when I'm sensitive like this.
Comment, comment, comment! Please and thank you. Help me feel better with your lovely words. That's all for now, my pets. OverAndOutxx
