Angie was confused. She wasn’t up when Anya made it back home the night before and she hadn’t seen her friend all day since Anya left for class earlier than she did. So, when Anya started singing in the shower, Angie was quite puzzled, feeling that only increased when she saw the big smile on Anya’s face.
“What the actual fuck?” Angie exclaimed as Anya did a ballerina swirl on her way to her room.
“I have a date.” Anya sang and made the attempt to close the door, but Angie ran behind her and entered the room.
“What?” Angie asked, hands on her hips. “Wait… Michael is back?”
“Yes, he is…” Anya sang again, getting dressed and still wearing a grin. “And I’m going out with him after work.” She ended with a big sigh.
Angie shook her head. “Okay, who are you and what did you do with my best friend?”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Anya giggled, putting a sweater on. “Can’t I be happy that he’s back? That he’s taking me out after work and that he totally said he wants to be with me?” She finished with a wink. Angie gasped.
“Oh, my God! So you’re like-- official now?”
“I hope so… I mean…” Anya bit her lip and sat on the bed to zip her stiletto boots. “He didn’t exactly ask me, but he hinted it pretty clearly.” She couldn’t help but blushing a little, a dreamy smile growing on her face again. Angie looked at her with a smirk.
“You’re completely head over heels for that guy, you know that, right?” Angie sat on the bed.
“I know.” Anya sighed.
And apparently everyone else knew it too. Perhaps it was the smile that never left her face or that she kept humming in and out of the dressing room, but Anya became the gossip of the night and all the girls wanted to know what was making the little icicle melt and swoon like a teenager.
“She has a date after work.” Finally Angie spilled out. Anya couldn’t even glare…
“Oh my God!”
“You’re so lucky!”
“Who’s the guy? Do we know him?”
Between the buzz of the curious voices, Anya had a few seconds to make up her mind. Did she want to make her relationship with Michael public knowledge? Whatever that relationship was… She didn’t think Michael would like it, though.
“Ryan.” She blurted. “He’s one of my classmates.” Anya lied and eyed Angie for a second to make her follow the game.
“And he knows where you work?” One of the girls asked. Her name was Mina, Anya recalled.
“Why not?” Anya shrugged. “He knows and so far his opinions he has kept them to himself.” This wasn’t a lie, technically.
“That’s funny…” Another girl, Alicia, said, crossing her arms and leaning on her locker. “I was under the impression you had something with Michael.” Anya managed to roll her eyes as other girls agreed with Alicia. “After all he watches you every day and I know for a fact he pulled you out of the VIP room pick-ups.”
This was news to Anya. “What?”
“He did!” Alicia said this time with a knowing smirk. “No client can ask for you to go to the VIP. Didn’t you now that?”
“I- I hadn’t noticed.” Anya was quite puzzled, but shrugged it off quickly; she’d have time to ask Michael himself about it later.
“But anyway,” Alicia sighed and bent down to strap her high heels. “If he has a thing for you and you’re dating someone else…” The smile that crept on her face made Anya uncomfortable. “…he might need someone to cheer him up.”
Anya managed to keep calm at feeling the slight touch of Angie’s hand on her wrist. Deciding it was better not to say anything, Anya turned to her locker and threw inside whatever she was holding.
“Easy, tiger.” Angie whispered as the other girls lost interest in them. “You’re the one rocking his bed tonight, not her…”
“Rocking his bed?” Despite being bothered, Anya managed to smile. “What is that supposed to mean?” Angie watched her friend’s face turn pink and raised an eyebrow.
“All I’m saying is: I want details tomorrow.”
With that, the girls were shoved outside the dressing room and into work. Anya felt like her body was in autopilot, doing automatically what she was supposed to do while her mind wandered around what Angie had told her. She remembered last Saturday at Michael’s place… making out on the couch… his kisses on her neck… his warm lips sending shivers down her back… It didn’t help that Michael was, as usual, watching her from the bar. By the look in his eyes, Anya was pretty sure he was thinking the same thing.
The night passed by too slow for them. Before long Anya was ready to get the hell out of there, but had to wait until all the other girls had left to meet Michael on the parking lot.
