Melody's POV
For dinner Gerard had offered to cook because god forbid I try. The entire kitchen would go up in flames. He had made two different types of lasagna. One being meatless for Frank's sake. Now we were all seated around the kitchen table enjoying our meal. I had decided to try a little of each and I had to say both tasted absolutely amazing.
"Wow Gerard, this is delicious. Where did you learn to cook?"
"My mom taught me. Mikey too, though he's better with breakfast food."
"Oh really?" I quirked an eyebrow at Mikey. "In that case, I demand pancakes for breakfast. Chocolate chip pancakes."
Mikey laughed. "Sure thing."
"So Gee, I uh....."
"What is it Frank?"
I had a feeling Frank was about to drop the news bomb on Gerard.
"It's uh...I'm uh...."
"Spit it out Frank."
Frank took a deep breath and faced Gerard.
"It's mine. I'm the father."
"How do you know? I thought we wouldn't know until tomorrow."
"The results came back early. The doctor called while you were in the shower."
Gerard frowned. "Excuse me. I need to make a phone call."
Gerard's POV
I sighed as I stepped out into the cooling night air. I dug my pack of cigarettes and lighter from my pocket. Placing one of the long, white sticks into my mouth I lit it and inhaled deeply. The smoke filled my lungs, easing the stress slightly. Thoughts flooded my aching head.
'Shit! Why did this kid have to be Frank's? I had really been hoping, by some miracle, the kid wasn't his so we could all go our separate ways with a crisis adverted. Unfortunately, we were not that lucky. How hard can it possibly be to keep your dick in your pants? Apparently, for Frank it was fucking impossible.'
I threw my burned out cigarette to the ground and stubbed it out with my shoe. I pulled my cell from my pocket and called Ray.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey Ray, it's Gee."
"Oh hey Gee, what's going on? Any news?"
"Yeah. The kid is Frank's."
"And you are sure?"
"Yep. They did a DNA test and we got the results today."
"Fuck. What are we going to do?"
"I don't know yet. I was kind of hoping you and Chris could make a trip over here and help us out with that."
"Yeah. I'll call Chris. What's the address?"
"Um...I'm not sure. I'll ask then send you a text."
"Okay man. I'll call Chris and fill him in. We'll be there first thing tomorrow morning."
"Thanks Ray."
"Of course. See you tomorrow. Bye Gee."
"Bye."
I replaced my cell then took one last calming breath before stepping back inside.
"Hey Melody?"
"Hmm?"
"I need your address for Ray and Chris."
"Oh yeah, sure. It's sixty-seven Niven Lane."
"Thanks. I'm just gonna go upstairs for the night." I muttered.
I texted the address to Ray then retired to my temporary room.
Melody's POV
"Is he mad at me?"
"No." Frank sighed. "He's mad at me."
"It's my fault too." I muttered.
"Come on, stop this. Gerard will be fine and he's not mad at anyone. He just needs time to let the news sink in. Plus, he's probably just trying to think of a way to keep this news from the media. The last thing we need is this getting leaked and the paparazzi hounding us." Mikey sighed.
"What are we going to do? I don't want to keep my child a secret. He or she might think I don't love them when they find out but I don't want the band ruined either."
"I don't know Frank but we will figure it out. Ray and Chris can help. Ray always has good ideas."
"So, uh...Melody. Is there anything you need for you or the baby?"
"I don't think so but thank you Frank." I gave him a half smile and he smiled back weakly. At least he was being nice now. Maybe this wouldn't be as bad as I had originally thought.
"Uh...guys, would it be okay if I spoke to Frank? Alone."
There was a round of 'yes' and 'sure' before everyone was leaving the table. Mikey gave me a quick kiss then shuffled away.
"So..."
"Do you mind if we talk outside? I need a cigarette."
"Of course."
Once we were seated side by side on the patio steps and Frank had a cigarette wedged between his lips I began.
"So, how are you handling all of this?" I questioned.
"Honestly?" I nodded.
"I'm a mess. I really don't know what I'm doing. I don't know how to be a father. I don't know anything about kids let alone how to care for one."
"That makes two of us." I muttered.
"How are we going to even do this?"
"I-I, I don't know. Should we even keep it?"
"What?! You don't mean abortion do you? I don't believe in abortion."
"No! Of course not. I'm not heartless but what about adoption?"
"I don't know. I don't really want some random strangers raising my child."
"But Frank, I don't think I can do this. I'm only seventeen."
"Look Melody, I know I was an asshole to you and I am sorry but you can't just give our kid away. From now on I swear I will help you with anything you need."
"I'm sure you are going to regret saying that when my parents find out and kick me out."
"Do you think they would really do that?"
"I know they will. Don't get me wrong, I know they love me but I...just trust me on this. Once they find out I'll be homeless."
"Nah, they'll be pissed sure but they will get over it."
"No they won't."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Experience."
"I'm confused. Experience?"
"If I tell you something can you keep it just between us?"
"Of course."
I sighed. "Okay. When Aly was fifteen she got pregnant. My parents kicked her out and she had to go live with her boyfriend, Ryan."
"But she lives here now and she doesn't have a kid."
"When she was six almost seven months along she had an accident. She was driving home and some guy hit her on the driver's side. Her stomach somehow took most of the impact. The doctors tried to save the baby but they couldn't. It was a little girl. Her name was Charlotte." A tear slipped from my eye at the memory and I quickly wiped it away.
"I-I'm sorry. That's horrible."
"Please don't say anything about it. When someone talks about it Aly gets depressed and let's just say it's not pleasant."
"I won't say anything. So, where will you go?"
"I don't know yet. Benji's mom, my Aunt Sara, will flip out and my grandparents live in California so I honestly have no idea."
Frank looked deep in thought for a moment before he spoke.
"I have an idea and I'm pretty sure Mikey will be okay with it."
"Yeah?"
"Mikey and I share an apartment in Belleville. There are three bedrooms although right now one is being used as our music room. You could move in with us. That way you wouldn't be homeless and I'll always know what's going on with the baby."
"I guess that could work but we should probably talk to Mikey first."
"Come on then." He grinned, grabbing my hand and tugging me to my feet. He pulled me into the house where we found Mikey watching television in the living room with Benji and Zac.
"Mikey, can we talk?" Frank questioned.
I hadn't realized Frank was still holding my hand until Mikey glanced between us and frowned. I snatched my hand away immediately.
"Yeah. Sure."
We sat around the kitchen table. Mikey looked nervous for some odd reason. I hope he didn't think anything was going on between Frank and I.
"So Mikey, I have an idea. I think Melody should live with us. I know we are limited on space because of the music room but she could share with you."
"What about your parents? I'm sure they won't be too fond of that idea."
"O-Once they find out t-they'll kick me out."
"Oh. Well, it's fine with me but what do we tell Gerard? He'll freak if we share a room."
"I'll just say she sleeps in my room and I sleep on the couch." Frank shrugged.
"I guess that could work but he still won't be happy about it."
"It's okay if it's going to be a problem. Ryan will probably let me stay with him."
"No, it's fine. I'm just warning you now that Gerard will be suspicious." I only nodded.
"It's all set then. When your parents get back we'll tell them and you'll come home with us." Frank smiled.
My stomach churned at the thought of telling my parents and having to leave my home but at least I wouldn't be on my own and I would be closer to Mikey. That thought made me smile.
