She gasped when she woke up; her hand flew to her neck as she opened her eyes, checking that her racing heart was still beating, although she could hear it pounding in her ears. ‘’You’re awake.’’ Gerard smirked, ‘’time to get moving.’’ He laughed, as if Lauren’s imprisonment was a game to him. It was more of a nightmare for her.
‘’I need to pee.’’ She spoke up.
‘’Well, pee by the side of the car. Ain’t no one watching.’’ He laughed again.
‘’I want to stop as well, I’m hungry.’’,
‘’We’ll stop when we reach Maryland. No fuckin’ around – you need a piss, do it by the car and do it quick.’’ He snarled threateningly.
‘’No…I’ll wait.’’ Lauren quickly spoke, getting back in the front of the car. Gerard climbed back into the passenger seat, lying down once again, with his gun pointed towards Lauren. She started the car, driving out from the parking lot, out into the half-dark dawn.
They had another two hours until Maryland, and Lauren was on edge the entire time, wondering when she would actually need to visit the bathroom. Gerard started fiddling with the CD player, climbing into the front, but placing a pair of Lauren’s sunglasses on, and pulling the sun visor down. ‘’Got any of The Stooges?’’ he asked,
‘’No. All I have is Death Cab for Cutie and maybe some Satie…’’,
‘’I don’t know who the fuck either of those are… ya really gotta up your game, girl.’’ He fumbled around the glove box for a while, his gun held in his other hand. Lauren kept glancing over at him, ‘’eyes on the road, not on me – I know that’s gotta be hard to do, though.’’ He gave her a smile, showing his small teeth. He got a disgusted frown in return.
‘’I…I just want to see what you’re doing with my stuff.’’,
‘’Well, keep your eyes on the road. I don’t want the cops pulling us over…’’ Gerard spoke in a mocking tone, watched the car passing them with weary eyes.
The next hour was much like the night before, except for the fact that the sun was slowly creeping higher in the sky. Gerard knew he was growing tired, but his determination to wait until they reached Maryland had taken him over.
They reached a toll road, and Gerard immediately seemed to tense, his hazel eyes darkening threateningly as Lauren rolled down her window and paid the middle-aged woman with a short scrub of blonde hair. Gerard had pushed the gun against her so that the woman couldn’t see it from her perch at the window.
The car pulled away from the toll booth as the barrier rose, and Gerard breathed a sigh of relief, grinning and running a hand through his hair, looking back at the booth; ‘’Well…Shit…That was intense.’’ He laughed, glancing over at Lauren. ‘’Lighten up, would ya?’’,
‘’I can’t with a gun pointed at me.’’ She breathed out in once harsh gust.
‘’Awwww, don’t worry. We’ll get something worked out. But for now it’s the only way I can make sure you keep on driving.’’,
‘’You’re sick.’’ Lauren frowned, glancing his way. He saw the fear and disgust in his eyes, and an idea came into his insane mind.
‘’Glad you noticed. Ya don’t get to prison without doin’ bad things, Sugar. I killed three women, and with the other two I left ‘em to rot in Belleville recreational grounds. A kid’s playground in the best place, especially when the snow starts to fall.’’ Gerard recounted, his mouth twisting as three cop cars drove down the other side of the road in a quick succession. ‘’Fuckin’ pigs.’’ He spat.
‘’But you did kill people. They’re only doing their jobs.’’ She defended; Gerard narrowed his eyes for a few seconds, directing his seething gaze towards the young woman. ‘’You got a cigarette?’’ he eyed the box-shaped bump I her apron.
‘’Yeah, wait a moment.’’ Lauren spoke up, trying to turn into the next lane. Gerard reached over, sliding his hand slowly into the apron, and drawing out the box.
‘’Got ‘em.’’ He smirked, picking up a lighter that was located in the side of his door. He lit the white stick, placing the packet in the side of the door, along with the lighter. The sweet nicotine flooded his veins, and he groaned, sinking back into the chair.
‘’They don’t have cigarettes in jail?’’ Lauren raised her eyebrows along with her question.
‘’Sure they do, but I had to save ‘em up for favors.’’,
‘’Favors?’’ Lauren enquired.
‘’Yeah – protection is key in jail. Fuckers try and get ya from every single angle, if ya know what I mean.’’ Gerard spoke without a hint of humor; his voice was as cold as his soul seemed to be. ‘’Fuck it, I want to stop. I’m fuckin’ tired.’’ He announced out of the blue.
‘’I thought killers didn’t change their set plans.’’,
‘’Got that off TV? Well, I’m different, Sugar. And I want to sleep before I fall asleep and ruin my grand escape.’’,
‘’Where should I stop? ’’ Lauren asked.
‘’The next motel we see. I’ll figure out where we go from there.’’.

Lauren could almost taste a chance at freedom. He would have to send her in alone, because his face had probably been broadcasted through every TV channel available. She could imagine bursting in there and telling the motel receptionist, screaming that the Gerard Way was currently waiting in the parking lot – in the battered red Honda. She would be so happy when the police arrived.
She would.
But what would happen afterwards?
‘ ’Do ya think that life is boring, Sugar?’’
‘’Not so much now, I guess.’’
Henry was dead, so her work at the diner would evaporate – it was an ailing business. She wouldn’t be able to pay for food, in her town there were no jobs.
‘’What are you thinking about?’’ Gerard was staring at her intently. His dark eyes seemed to symbolize so much danger; it threatened to eclipse every other thing about him. Maybe it was a human instinct to be scared and frightened of him.
‘’I’m thinking about what it would be like if I just went back right now.’’ She answered truthfully. Truth wasn’t optional to her – she felt like her body was fighting to shut down on her. She bit back against the shaking, and the crying – she would remain strong until the last breath of air left her lungs.
‘’And what did ya find out?’’,
‘’I found that my job is gone, thanks to you. So I’d have to probably leave town and lose my deposit on my apartment. I don’t know where I would go from there.’’,
‘’Well that’s a great situation to be in.’’ Gerard scoffed.
‘’It’s your fault, asshole.’’ She spat the words back, so venomous that they surprised even herself. Gerard stayed silent, but she knew immediately after she had insulted him that he would pay her back for it. ‘’I’m sorry.’’ She began-
‘’Shut the fuck up.’’ His words shocked her. ‘’Pull over here, behind the bushes surrounding the lay by.’’. Lauren pulled over, stopping behind the foliage and turning the headlights off. They would be invisible to anyone driving down the highway – and no one would stop over that early in the morning. Lauren’s heart sank when she realized that her chance at the motel was extinguished. They would reach Maryland in under two hours, and then she didn’t know what would happen - Or where they would go.
Gerard reached over, taking the keys out of the ignition and giving her that dark look once more. ‘’I want you to get in the trunk.’’ He explained. ‘’So get out.’’ He gestured with the gun for her to move. She opened her door and stepped out – Gerard did the same, walking around to the driver’s side and pulling her to the trunk, his fingers gripping her wrist like a metal vice.
‘’You’re hurting me!’’ she hissed,
‘’You deserve it. Now shut up.’’ Gerard opened the trunk, still pointing the gun at her. The trunk was empty – empty because Lauren had left everything in her apartment in case her car was stolen. A lot of gang-related car thefts had occurred where she had been living – it was ironic how car theft was the least of her worries at that moment. She held back the tears as she climbed into the confined space, the trunk was small, but so was her body – fitting perfectly against the uncomfortable fixtures.
And then, she caught Gerard smirking sadistically, right before he slammed the trunk door down – plunging his terrified victim into darkness.
