I wake up to an annoying buzzing on my phone. Oh boy, time to get up for school. Damn, I feel like chucking that bloody phone against the wall. Grr... Wait did I just growl in my head? Oh great, now I’m talking to myself as well.

I try to open my eyes, realising that I left the blinds wide open. Damn. I stretch out my legs and mentally prepare myself for another long, boring day at the hellhole people call school.
I get up and sleepily walk into the kitchen, making my lunch and boiling the kettle for my much loved morning coffee.

Once I finish up in the kitchen I go down the hall and into my room. I can just hear my mum getting up and moving about to have her shower. I wonder if Addison’s up....? Hmm....

I grin to myself and tip toe up to the room next to mine and slowly turn the door knob. As soon as the door is open my head peeks around the corner of the door and I instantly freeze. My brother’s peaceful face is half covered by his blonde fringe, while the rest of his brown hair is surrounding his face like a halo. He looks so adorable - how could I wake up Addison now?! I sneak up to the bed and brush the hair from his face.

“Addison? Come on buddy time to get up,” I whisper into Addison’s ear. He turns his head and scrunches up his eyes. Aww. I mean look at him, he looks like a small woodland creature!

“Morning bro,” he says rolling back onto his back and looking up at me smiling.

“Morning Buddy, time to get up and ready sunshine!” I say in a fake bright voice.

“Ok, ok. I’m getting up now!” He replies rolling out of bed. With a smile I leave his room to get ready again.

I go to my cupboard and get out my white button down top with the school logo on it and the navy school shorts. Blah, I hate uniforms; I mean they don’t flatter anyone!

I quickly get dressed and shove some black socks on, rushing out to get to the bathroom before Addison. I mean, seriously, the boy nearly takes longer than me! insert evil grin here Hehehe.

I look at my reflection and quite literally get scared. It looks like some small birds had come along and set up camp in my hair, deciding to have a party and invite the squirrels! Yeah I know what you're thinking. But it really is that bad!

I sigh and get out my brush and straightener, getting to work on the mess that is my hair. I start by brushing out the side of my bangs where I have a patch of lime green. Yeah, my hair is black and green. Bitches be jelly. I finish off by straightening all the kinks out of my hair and take a look at myself. My chocolate brown eyes stare back at me. I examine my septum piercing before fiddling with it to take it out, replacing it with a little half one I could flip up so the teachers couldn’t see it at school.

Happy with my hair, I brush my teeth and leave the bathroom. Stepping out of the bathroom, I meet Addison’s annoyed frown. Hah, I guess I took a little too long to do my hair again. Woops.

“Sorry Addie. Gotta be quicker next time, eh?” He doesn’t seem amused by my comment and just glares back. I smile in return, skipping down the hall way back to my room. I check the time on my phone and walk back down the hall, past the bathroom and into the kitchen. My mum is busy rushing around the kitchen making breakfast. My mum’s mess of slightly-out-of-control black waves bounce around her face as she gets ready for her job at the music shop. Her smile lights up her face as she sees me.

“Hello sweetie, how was your sleep?” She asks me.

“Yeah, fine thanks Mum.” I smile back at her, sitting down at a stool next to the bench. My mum chucks a piece of bread into the toaster for my breakfast.

Addison bounds into the room smiling at mum, then scowling once he notices me there. Huh, must still be grumpy from this morning.

“Morning Mum!” he says kissing her cheek. His energy in the morning is always amazing.

“Morning Baby,” Mum smiles back. “Ok guys, get to school on time. I have to go now.”

“Bye!” Addison and I say in unison as she leaves the house. We finish up in the kitchen and have to leave quickly to get to the bus.

“Come on Addie! Bus!” I yell down the hall, rushing for the front door and putting on my black leather high tops.

Addison runs out and we walk down to the corner of our street where the bus stop is. As we wait there Addie starts bouncing in his seat. Seriously! He hasn’t even had coffee and he has so much energy!

“Addie, how do you have so much energy!?” I ask, slightly amused at the look on his face. His eyes are literally the size of an ostrich's (They have big eyes, alright?).

“I’m sorry Echo,” he says sarcastically, “I’m just excited to tell Casper how many My Little Ponies I have now!” I roll my eyes at him.

“Seriously Addison, sometimes I think you're more of a 5 year old than an actual 5 year old!” I chuckle at my childish brother’s pout he has plastered onto his face. “N’aww Addie, I was only joking, baby bro!” I grin at him, pulling him into a tight hug.

I hear his cute little giggle so I know he was only kidding. I smile to myself at my little brother’s maturity.

I look up and see the bus coming. Oh joy school. Hear the heavy sarcasm there?
The bus comes to a halt next to the bus stop and Addison bounces on. I follow him flashing my bus pass at the driver on the way. I follow Addison into a seat that is free around the back of the bus.

The bus ride passes quicker than I’d hoped and soon I’m standing at the front of the school with Addison standing next to me.

We walk through the front gates and around to the back of the school where the sports oval is. There at the back I can just see Lex, Ellia and Lauren are waiting there.

As we walk, Addison suddenly starts screaming and I can see him run in front of me, waving his hands like a maniac.

“Ellia! Lauren! Lex!” He runs across the oval at them. Oh God....

Ellia and Lauren jump up and run towards Addison, hugging my little brother tightly, while Lex casually stands up and waits for us to make our way over.

“Addie!” The girls squeal together. I make eye contact with Lex and we both roll our eyes.
“Echo, what’s up man?” Lex greets me and pats me on the back. (It's his ‘man hug’.)

“Not much Lex, not much.” I grin at him.

Ellia walks over to me, squeezing my waist. Her long brown hair was left out today, and her sparkling blue eyes are looking up at me. She only comes up to about my chest, about the same height as Addison is.

“Hey Echo, ready for Mr. N’s class today?” she giggles at me. She knows I hate his classes. Oh joy, double session with him this morning.

“Don’t be mean to my Echo, Ellia!” Addison teases and wraps his arms around me while giggling like an idiot.

“EWW! INCEST!” screams Lauren before bursting out into a fit of hysteria.

We all end up on the ground laughing like maniacs at the back of the oval when Casper arrives.
“Hey what’s all this about?!” Casper says in his ‘teacher’ voice, which only succeeds in setting us all of into another round of giggles.

Once we had all calmed down, Addison jumped up and hugged Casper. He was really like a little brother to us all except Lauren of course; she was in the same grade as him.

“Guess what Casper?!” Addie asks my friend while jumping up and down excitedly. “I GOT RAINBOWDASH!”

Casper rolls his eyes but grins down at Addie saying, “Good for you buddy!”

Ding.....Ding.....Ding....

The bell. I hug my little brother good bye and walk to my locker, dropping in my bag and grabbing my books and pencil case, and walk to my home room with Casper. We sit in the middle desks, our usual spots, as the teacher walks in smiling. I seriously think she’s on happy pills; she’s so damn happy all the time! I need to get me some of what she is on. Come to think about it, I think my brother might be on it too....

The bell went signalling the first session was about to start. Oh joy, double geography with Mr. N. I swear he hates me, but he seems to have taken a liking to Ellia. Casper follows me and we walk into our geography room where Ellia is sitting.

Mr. N walks in a minute later. He is a short round man with a greying moustache and shaved hair. He groans on for about half an hour before putting on a movie about fires and other stuff. I really wasn’t listening - this is all just bull crap anyway.

The stupid class finally finishes and I have my drum lesson, then we have lunch. In my lesson I had heaps of fun. My teacher tells stories half the time and makes it interesting? Once my lesson was finished, I make my way to our ‘spot’ at the back of the oval.

“Hey guys!” I say enthusiastically with a wide grin on my face as I sit in between Lex and Lauren.

I see Lex pout from the corner of my eye and smirk. His little crush is so cute sometimes but seriously he needs to man up at some stage. Oh well, I’m sitting next to her now (Oh I’m so mean).

“Hey Addison, why don’t you tell everyone about Kai!” Lauren grins at Addison while he’s sitting awkwardly, turning bright red. The whole group knows that he’s bi and I'm gay but no one else in the school knows yet.

“Lauren!” Addie whinges, blushing an even darker shade of red. “You can’t do that to me!”
“Oh, but I just did!” Lauren smirks back at him.

“So, Addie, who is this 'Kai'?” I ask, a smile on my face, clearly winding him up again.

“No, don’t be mean! He’s just a guy in some of my classes!” He says trying to curl in on himself to hide his face.

“Aww buddy come on! Is he your little crush?” I ask him in a teasing tone.

“YES! Alright?! He is! Now can you please leave me alone!?” He yells, getting even more embarrassed.

“Aww, that’s so cute!” The girls chorus and hug him from the side.

Just at that moment the bell goes and we are back to classes. We have science, music and French then it’s the end of the day.

School finished quickly and I was soon out the front walking towards Addie who was in the line to get onto the bus. I started humming the tune of ‘The Reckoning’ by The Getaway Plan. Seriously good Australian band, by the way.

Addison whips his head around with a manic look on his face. Oh crap. What is he thinking.... and then he breaks out into song in the middle of the line. Oh God.

“I’m like a rabbit down a hole,
Can’t find you now,
And don’t think I ever will!”

Oh gosh, now I’m actually embarrassed. Nice one Addison. We walk onto the bus and find an empty seat before relaxing and waiting until we’re home.

When we get home I relax on my bed, losing myself in the music coming from my iPod. When it was 7pm, I get up and walk into the kitchen, smelling my mum’s cooking. She made lasagne tonight. I sat down with my brother and mum and we all finished tea quickly.

“Thanks Mum, it was great!” I tell her, putting my plate in the dishwasher and walking to my room.

I lie down on my bed and grab my book from under the drawer of my bedside table. I open it up and trace all the words written over the pages. I write lyrics mostly but sometimes I write other kinds of poems. I grab out a pen and start writing, inspiration hitting me.

Summer days are memories
Cold winter is reality
I walk alone in autumn
And spring offers me hope

I don’t remember falling asleep, but I am suddenly jolted awake after the strangest dream...
