“You’ve never been to a party without adult supervision!?” The shorter, dark haired boy asks incredulously.
I roll my eyes and shrug, “I have no interest, Pete. I see nothing fun about getting so fucked up you can’t drive home.”
Pete rolls his eyes, “Geez Mikes.... live a little. I bet you’ve never had one drink.”
I shake my head.
He raises an eyebrow, “Smoked pot?”
I shake my head again.
“Smoked a cigarette?” his eyes widen as my head shakes again, “No? Nothing? I’m not saying you should be fucked up all the time, but you have to at least try some stuff!”
I roll my eyes at him again, “As I said, I have no interest. That stuff’s bad for you, anyways.”
He narrows his eyes, “So is caffeine, but that doesn’t stop you from inhaling coffee. So is sugar, but that doesn’t stop you from eating sweets. So is-”
“Alright, I get it!” I cut him off, “But even still... I’ve never been invited to one.” I shrug a shoulder.
Pete shrugs, “Problem solved.”
“What? How?” I look over to him, setting down one of his Batman comics, “Because I am not doing something stupid like changing my appearance..”
“Why change something beautiful?” he asks, grinning as a blsuh creeps across my cheeks, “The problem is solved because I’m going to throw a party. Automatic invite. And I’ll even invite your little boyfriend.” he smirks.
“I do not have a boyfriend!” I blush more.
“Maybe after the party, you will.” he winks and grabs his phone.
I try to take it away, “Pete, you can’t throw a party, your parents!”
“Are leaving this weekend.” he grins.
I groan, “I have a feeling this was premeditated.”
He gives me an innocent smile, “What ever makes you think such a thing, Michael?”
I glare at him and hit him with a pillow, “Do not call me that.”
He chuckles and shrugs a shoulder, “Dude, chill. I didn’t plan this until just now. Mere coincidence.”
I groan, “Please don’t do this.”
He pouts, “Please be a normal seventeen year old boy for one night.”
“Define normal.” I cross my arms, “I want nothing to do with this. You know what? Throw the party, get drunk as hell and whatever. Just don’t expect me to be there.”
“I can’t believe I’m here.” I mumble to myself under the loud music.
Pete’s off somewhere, high and drunk, and I’m sitting on the couch, trying my hardest to be invisible. It’s amazing, really how good at it I am. I’ve been sat on now by three people. I sigh and look around my peers. A good amount of them have paired off and started making out. Pete himself has made out with four people, that I’ve seen. I’m really glad I have no feelings for him, because honestly? He’s got his whorish moments. I’m not sure I could handle the jealousy.
“Hey Mikes.” my older brother sits beside me, “S’wrong?”
I sigh, “What’s wrong, is that I’m at a party with a lot of drunk teenagers and I just really don’t belong.”
He shrugs and smiles, “It’s not that you don’t belong Mikes.. it’s that you’re not here. You know? You’re still in your head.” he nudges me, “You can shut if off for one night. I’ll keep you from doing anything too stupid.”
I shake my head, “Thanks, but I’d like to keep my brain-cells intact.”
He shrugs, “You can’t enjoy any experience until you try.” with that he stands up and walks over to a few girls.
I roll my eyes and walk outside. I need some fresh air, and to get away from all of the people. To my dismay, I walk out and see another couple making out. Oh great, it’s Pete again. Who is his victim this time? I glance around him and see Frank. The guy I’ve been in love with for two years. My heart sinks. Of all the people could kiss, it had to be him? Pete pulls back for air and notices my presence. His eyes widen as he looks to the person he’s kissing, then me.
“Shit Mikey, I-”
“Fuck you!” I storm back inside angrily.
I grab a cup full of beer and quickly down it, completely hating the taste. Despite the foul taste, I drink another, and then a few more. I reach for another before the cup is taken from me.
“Slow down buddy...” Ray puts his arm around my waist to help me stand, “Let’s get you home, alright?”
“B-But..” I reach for the cup, scowling as he pulls it out of my reach, “Uh uh... you’ve had enough Mikes.”
“Well....y-you have stupid hair.”
He raises an eyebrow, “Someone’s cranky. C’mon, I’ll walk you home.” he sets the cup down and walks with me outside.
I look down as I try desperately to walk straight, “S-Sorry I made fun of your hair. I actually like it. It’s all poofy.” I giggle.
He smiles softly, “It’s fine, Mikes... so, can I ask you something?”
I look to him, an act which nearly makes me fall, “Y-Yeah, if you want...”
He holds onto me tighter, “I’ve never seen you at a party before... I kind of admired that.”
I blush lightly, “It’s stupid jerkface asshole Pete’s fault.”
He raises an eyebrow, “Your best friend, as I recall?”
I shake my head, “Th-That isn’t a friend.”
He frowns, “Something happened?”
I nod, “I-I went outside... because of all the drunk people were driving me crazy and he was making out with Frank.”
Ray nods, “Oh... so him making out with someone upset you, which led to your, about nine or ten drinks?”
I scrunch my nose, “Not him.. the guy he kissed.” I sigh, “Frank...”
“You like Frank?” Ray raises an eyebrow, “He doesn’t really seem your type.”
“Type? I don’t have a type...” I shrug as we walk.
“Everyone has a general type, Mikey. There’s just so much different about you and Frank.” he shrugs, “For instance, the drinking and making out with whoever lets you...”
“Well I’ve definitely been drinking tonight..”
Ray shrugs, “That’s different, it’s a first time thing. Frank drinks a lot, and he’s often high.. also not like you. And there’s still the throwing himself at people..”
“Opposites attract?” I shrug.
He shakes his head, “Too many opposites clash, man.”
“Yeah?” I stop walking and look up to him, “Then who do you think I should date, Mr. Know-it-all?”
He shrugs, “Why not me?”
My eyes widen, “What?”
He looks down, “Guess that was a bad idea..”
“It was a random idea...”
“Not really..” he shrugs, “Because as you’ve been crushing on Frank, and as I thought you were crushing on Pete, I’ve.. kind of been feeling the same way, but about you.”
My eyes widen, “You.. what?”
He sighs, “Nevermind. If I’m lucky you’ll have forgotten this entirely by tomorrow, and now I know you’d never date me so I can try moving on.”
“But I...” I look down, “I don’t want you to move on.”
“Well I don’t want to have feelings for someone that aren’t returned...” he sighs, “You’re just so smart, and nice, and you’re you.. no matter what, you’re true to yourself, and I respect that.”
I look down, “I wasn’t very true to myself tonight...”
He shrugs a shoulder, “A few drinks don’t make you any less Mikey Way. If it became a constant, maybe. But once?” he smiles, “You’re in highschool, you’re supposed to do some stupid things.”
I blush and continue staring at my feet, “You actually like nerd Mikey?”
He smiles and bites his lip, “I like this Mikey.” he wraps his arms around my waist, “The nerdy, sweet, smart, funny, caring Mikey that’s right here.”
My blush deepens as I look up into his eyes, “Really? B-Because... I-I kind of like this Ray...”
“Which Ray is that?” he asks softly.
“The sweet, caring Ray who’s looking out for one of his friends, even though he thinks he’s interested in another guy...”
“I was right, though...” he frowns, “You are.”
“You thought Pete, and that was wrong. I liked Frank but.. he is a bit too...outgoing and obnoxious... but you?” I blush and bite my lip, “You just might be my type.”
“M-Me?”
I nod before leaning up to kiss him softly. He freezes at first, startled, before slowly melting into the kiss, holding me close. Perhaps Pete was right, I really did need to go to at least one party.
I roll my eyes and shrug, “I have no interest, Pete. I see nothing fun about getting so fucked up you can’t drive home.”
Pete rolls his eyes, “Geez Mikes.... live a little. I bet you’ve never had one drink.”
