The day started out pretty normal. Normal as it can get in the little town of Lafayette, Indiana. Her name was Alyce Mariee Michelle Gordine and she has been on my mind since 76’.
She had moved here with her mom back in 73’ from the sunny, blue watered, California. I had never seen California, only heard of the rich and famous coke heads that lived there; her family was no exception. I grew up in Florida and moved to Indiana when I was younger and that was about as exciting as my life got; that is, before I met her. I never had the chance to do normal kid-dish, teenage shit before I met her. My parents were divorced and I have younger siblings, so I was always trying to play the big-man role.
She intrigued me from day one. She was the prettiest girl in Lafayette and everyone spoke ill of her, but I’d never tell her that. Of course being a young lady from California with a drugged-up prostitute mother and no father, people talked. But, people talk anyways, right? She constantly spoke of how wonderful California was and how it was the place to be. She never talked about her dad or any family members to be honest. She only briefly talked about her grandfather and how he owned the Troubadour, back in L.A. The way she talked about California made it seem like it was the golden pathway to heaven, or some messed up BS that society tries to feed you.
If I could paint a picture of how beautiful she was, I’d never finish it. She always had something new, a sparkle even, about her every time I looked at her. There was just something about her that could pull anyone in and get tangled by her beautiful web of desire. There was no way around it, I was deeply in love with this girl and even at the tender age of 14, I knew I had to act and act fast.
Her hair was the blackest I’ve seen and those eyes, like an electric green that could stop a man dead in his tracks even if he only paused for a glimpse. She was very petite, but held her body high. Her curves were perfect in all the right places and I’d be lying if I told you that I didn’t think about her before bed.
I didn’t think I was anything special. Sure I was tall, dark and I guess somewhat handsome, but I never expected to be her type, which is why I never made a move, until that day…

“Hey Izzy man. Whatcha getting Ace for her birthday?” Bill’s my good friend and has been for quite some time now.
We sat outside the principal’s office. Alyce was beautiful, but also a troublemaker. I personally thought it was because her mom was never home to give her the attention she needed.
“I dunno man, she told us not to get her anything special.” I lied. Sometimes Bill was too intrusive.
“Well I think I know what I’m getting her.”
“And what’s that?”
“Me.”
Bill thinks a lot of himself and tries to be confident, but shadows his truer side by over-doing it. He’s constantly telling me to come out of my shell since ‘chicks dig that shit’. I was always comfortable having my chosen few and keeping to myself. I hate being in the limelight and would rather hang around 2 people than fifty million any day. So I’m shy, that’s nothing new.
“What do you mean?” I glanced at my feet and then back to the entrance to the school.
“You know. I’m giving her something all girls want for their 13th birthday.” Bill looked around and then leaned into me.
“Sex.”
“I’m pretty sure not all women want sex for their 13th birthday. Especially someone like Ace, man. She’d just be cool with a Led Zep album or something cool.” I started biting my lower lip; I always did that when I got nervous.
“You don’t know anything about chicks, Iz. Fuck, grow a pair and lay a lady.” Bill pushed his hair back off his face.
“I mean I laid tons of girls, and you don’t see me being all emotional and shit. That’s exactly what you need!”
Somehow that didn’t seem right and I wouldn’t have cared otherwise, but it was leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I liked to think that I knew Ace a little better than Bill did. I mean her house was basically a meter away.
“Anyway. I’m going to be the first into that pussy.” Bill smiled menacingly.
“Dude, that’s sick. Don’t talk like that. Ace is our friend.”
“And soon to be my fuck friend.”
“I doubt that.” I glanced toward the school again.
“What’s gotten into you man? It’s like you love her or something stupid.” Bill pushed my shoulders back and I stumbled a little bit. I’m quite skinny, so even a hard wind could blow me away.
“That’s fucked. I don’t like anyone. She’s all yours. Just don’t disrespect her.”
“I’ll fuck her and then tell you the deta—“
“Dude, she’s coming. Take a cold shower.”
“Hey Ace.” Bill called out as she came closer.
It felt like everything was moving in slow motion as her angelic little body came closer to us. Bill was already running toward her, so I followed in awe.
We had walked home and talked about why she had to go to the principal’s office again. She mentioned her boobs and Bill basically let loose in his pants. He was forever carrying a “package” for her and I always felt like the third wheel. Bill had recently sparked an interest in Ace, ever since she “grew up”. He always felt the need to broadcast it to me as if I would steal her away from him. Even though I had feelings for Ace, it didn’t mean that I thought I was tough shit or the most handsome guy in Lafayette, but I felt I could definitely treat her better than Bill certainly could.
