I had a dream that night. I had a dream that Ace told me she liked me and only me and that she wanted to start seeing me. My dream got pretty intense when she pinned me against the wall and started kissing me. I hated having dreams like these, because it was always awkward when I had to see her the next day. Not to mention, trying to hide my morning wood when my mom barges in at times to wake me up. This morning wasn’t going to be as monotonous as the others though. For one, I was rudely awoken by Bill pouring cold water on my face and two, I was in for a surprise later on in the day.

“Dude! What the fuck!”

“Shh. Don’t want your mommy hearing you.” Bill chuckled as he pulled my blankets off. I attempted to position myself in a way so Bill wouldn’t notice anything suspicious.

“Hey I think Ace is getting changed.” I waited for Bill to turn his attention to the window.

I jumped out of my bed and headed straight for my closet for a pair of jeans. I grabbed an old pair and jumped into them quickly.

“She’s not even there?” Bill turns back to see me searching for my shirt.

“Must have seen someone else I guess.”

“Dude, you don’t think someone already fucked her? I mean did you see her mom?”

Did he really just compare Ace to her mom? Ace is nothing near her mom. Her mom made some terrible decisions in her life, and sure we all make mistakes, but Ace is NOTHING like that.

“Fuck off Bill. You know Ace isn’t like that.” I grab my comb to try and fix up my hair, but to no avail, the comb wouldn’t go through.

“Who ever thought that long hair on a dude was cool, had to have been high man.”

“Why? I think I look good.” Bill scratches his head and then sits on my bed.

“You must get to see everything from here.” Huh?

“See what? It’s Lafayette? What is there to see besides people and houses?”

“You get to see Ace naked and stuff. Fuck man… I’d love to go sweep her off her feet and fuck her brains out.” I gulp.

“It’s not all about sex Bill.”

“What do you know? You haven’t even gotten your dick wet.”

“Dude. Seriously stop talking like that.” I shy away from the window and hang my jeans on my closet door.

“Aww well, whatever. You coming to practice or are you going to stare at the fucking wall all day?”

“Yeah I’m coming…”

Bill has been showing me how to play simple songs on the piano lately. I already tried the drums, but it just wasn’t me, so piano was my next bet, since I didn’t own a guitar…yet. Bill was awesome at playing the piano. There was another thing that he did better than me, but I was still pretty chill about it. I didn’t want to spend my life playing piano. I knew where my heart laid and it was with the guitar, but as fate have it, no money, no guitar.

The piano was in use, so Bill and I had gone all that way for dick all. While we were walking back from the church that Bill’s family attends, he started talking about Ace again. It was starting to really annoy me…

“Dude. I can’t wait. She’s going to be the 6th girl I’ve fucked his year.” I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth.

“Think she wants it?”

“I dunno man…” I try to stay calm, but he was really working up my last nerve.

“Ha, what am I saying? Of course she wants it. She’s been giving off hints anyways.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah, like she pretends to not listen to me, but I know she really is.”

“Well if you’re so awesome, just go fuck her then okay?”

I don’t normally lose my temper. I’m usually calm and collected about shit, especially when Bill starts talking about this stuff, but lately it was bugging me. I mean it wasn’t out of place for Bill and I to like the same girl, but Ace was different. She didn’t deserve trash. He was too low for her standards…

“Maybe I will!”

We were down the street from my house when I stopped dead in my tracks. From this view I could see someone in my room and it definitely didn’t look like my mom. Bill kept going until he noticed me halting.

“What’s up?” He called out.

“Dude… someone’s in my room.”

I started to sweat. The silhouette in the window was familiar; too familiar. Without warning, I bolted passed Bill. I had forgotten that I left out some papers from the previous night. When I was down or thinking about Ace, I’d start writing to pass the time. If she seen those, she’d kill me. She’d think I was a fucking perv. Bill followed behind as I bolted in the door.

“Mom?” I run into the kitchen panting heavily.

“Yes dear?”

“Is Alyce here?”

“Yes she is. She came over to see you, but I told her you left with William. I’m making her a sandwich now. Would you guys like one too?”

“Hey Ms. Isbell. I’d love one.” Bill says as he walks in behind me.

“Sure mom. I’ll be back.” With shaky legs and sweating palms, I run up the stairs as if I’m running from bullets.

I attempt to calm myself down before I enter. I didn’t want to sound too overwhelmed or panicky. If I was, Ace would pick up on it. Composure…

"Nice that you let yourself in." I chuckle as I walk in.

She was standing by my desk; my worst nightmare. She had her high waist shorts on that had the buckles up the sides. That killed me every time she wore those. Ace was different, but different in a good way. She dressed more scandalous than she should of for her age and for that time, but I wasn’t going to say anything. I mean she would still look beautiful in a paper bag.

"Hi! I was just leaving to go...ughh fuck...ughh wash my hands for lunch! Your mom ughh let me in to ughh eat..."

I was so hypnotized by her curves, that I had forgotten why I was there. When she started fidgeting and stammering, it finally hit me. Oh God no… she found the papers. I looked toward her hands and there it was.

"Hey don't read my stuff." I grab the papers from her hands, making a note that it was the lyrics I had scribbled down last night before bed.

"I really didn't mean to Iz...ughh nice room..."

"Yeah well...my mom’s been wondering what you're doing and now I'm wondering too. What else did you see or snoop for?" I felt like I was on a roller coaster of bullshit.

My mind was racing. Did she see the notes that I wrote about my dreams? Did she look in my drawers for other clues? I hope to God she didn’t find my Playboy’s under my mattress…

"I'm sorry Iz...I really didn't mean to..."

"Whatever."

I think about what Bill had kept saying, and my blood started boiling. I slam my closet door to release some of the tension. I couldn’t believe that I was too stupid and shy to tell her how I felt. Correction, how I’ve been feeling for three months now. Ever since my birthday, I started having a thing for Ace. She was the only one of my friends who remembered it. She came over and we talked. I felt as if I knew her in a past life or something stupid like that. I opened up to her about my parents and she really opened up to me about her mom. It felt almost perfect and I can honestly say that for once in my whole life, I felt pretty god damn safe. So Bill liking Ace was very different from other girls. This wasn’t some physical attraction, but emotional attraction as well.

"Why are you so uptight Iz? I just came over to see where you were and now you're acting all pissy." She looked shocked by my sudden change in personality, and really, I was too.

"You snuck into my room!"

"I didn't mean to!!"

Bill stumbles into my room and gives Ace a look up and down. I could tell that he was checking her out in her waist high shorts. He always tried to be high and mighty. He was trying to give her an alluring stare, but I don’t think Ace got it. Then the smile was wiped from his face when, I can just imagine, he noticed that she was in MY room.

"Hey...ughh what are you doing in Izzy's room?"

"I was just leaving...sorry I bother you guys so much that you don't even include me..."

Ace pushes past us both, and I could tell just by her voice, that she was on the verge of crying. What a fucktard I am…
