Chapter 3

“Account manager Headsplitter what do I need to do to finish taking over the black accounts? And are there any monthly distributions that I should be aware of that I may want to cut off?” Sirius asked.
“There are some things that you should be able to fix to bring in more income and fewer out going payments, but first we must see that the Black family ring accepts you as Lord Black.” A knock on the door and a younger goblin brought in an intricate detailed box of ebony wood with platinum inlays and set it on the desk. “First we need a drop of your blood on the box for the box to even open proving that you are a black.” Sirius looked closely at Headsplitter before presenting his left hand above the box. Out of the box a platinum skull rose out of the ebony wood and a needle slid out from between the skulls teeth where so he could prick his finger.

No sooner had Sirius’ blood touched the needle then the box opened up revealing the rings inside. There were several open slots for other rings, but the central spot was filled with the Lord’s ring with four other rings in place. The Heir’s ring which Sirius should have been wearing, one ring which should have been Andromeda’s, and a ring which should be his niece’s ring marking her maternal line. There was one more ring which eluded Sirius as why it should be here.
The family ring box was always the correct size for those who were alive and part of the Black family. There were two empty slots; One for Narcissa’s ring and the other for Belatrix’s ring. “Since the box opened for my blood is there anything I should worry about if I try on the Lord’s ring? Or do you not know what may happen?”

Chillspine sneered his response, “You should always worry about falsely taking what is not yours when it comes to your family Heir Black. You could simply take the Heir’s ring and see if you have an issue with that as you know at least as the only male left you should be the Heir. But I know you were a Griffindore so why wouldn’t you just charge on in?”

“I may have been placed in Griffindore but that does not mean that I didn’t learn a thing or to by living in a house of snakes,” replied Sirius. Taking a calming breath wishing he had a couple of shots of fire whiskey to take the edge off Sirius reached in the box and pulled out the Lord’s ring and then slowly placed it on his right ring finger. If Chillspine was looking for something terrible to happen to Sirius then he was sorely disappointed. As the ring glowed a silvery color and resized to fit on Sirius’ finger. Sirius let out a breath he didn’t know that he was holding. It was then that the pain started. It dropped Sirius to the floor and subconsciously he transformed into his animagus for of a Grim.

It was after his transformation that had raised Chillspine’s eye brows as the goblins had not known that Sirius was an animagus and the fact that Sirius’ form was a magical Grim was something else toward the power that was contained in the human on the floor before him. The fact that Sirius hadn’t cried out in pain was disappointing, but also spoke highly of him from a goblin’s point of view. There was nothing wrong with physically reacting to what the Black’s Lord ring was doing to Sirius right now as it was a surprise attack on Sirius, but it wasn’t the reaction that happened the last time someone tried to claim the Lordship of the family Black. That person was vaporized several seconds after placing the Lord’s ring on his hand.

It was only a few seconds later that Sirius was back on his feet which was unexpected as the last successful Heir to claim the Black Lordship was in agony for 30 minutes. It wasn’t until Chillspine looked over and saw glowing green eyes focused on Sirius that he realized that the infant was helping Sirius and somehow interfering with the ring and the pain it inflicted in its lessons on being Lord Black. Chillspine shuddered at the sight of those glowing green eyes as there was nothing but power there, and where would that power take the last Potter Scion?

Sirius looked over at the now awake Harry and smiled at him despite the glowing green eyes that reminded Sirius of a killing curse. This was a common site in the Potter house when Harry was using a lot of wandless magic. It was his only tell that Harry was using magic and only when it was taking his complete concentration. If Harry had wanted a toy or his pacifier it only took a small part of his power, but when Harry wanted Dad or Mum right away and they were ignoring him then Harry’s eyes would glow green as he would transport the parent he wanted to him.

It was now that Sirius while still felt the ring stuffing information in to his head was no longer feeling the pain that was coming along with it thanks to Harry. Harry’s eyes stopped glowing and Sirius felt a little bit of pain when the information stopped flowing into his head. Sirius then took the ring that he previously didn’t know why it was there and placed it on the left ring finger of Harry, where it glowed and sized itself to Harry’s hand.

“Padfoote ok?” Asked little Harry as he yawned. “No more hurt?”
“Yes, Harry. Padfoot is okay now and the pain is gone. Thank you Harry, you can go back to sleep now,” replied Sirius. Smiling Harry snuggled back into Sirius’ coat and fell fast asleep. “Chillspine, I want the account manager for the Potters here now, or if they aren’t available then I want the Potter’s ring box brought here immediately.”

“Surely you jest, Lord Black,” replied Chillspine his eyes wide with fear, “While you may demand of me as the Black account manager you surely could not demand of the Potter’s account manager to appear on your whim.”

“It isn’t a whim Chillspine, it is urgent that Harry receives his Heir ring now, while still an infant so others out there who may try to deny his birthright can be foiled.” “Harry’s inheritance may already be in danger by some who would seek to take his guardianship from me, and the protection of the Heir’s ring would give him undeniable proof that the Potter’s magic has accepted him and the Heir of the house and all rights pertaining to his position.”

“I can send the request Lord Black, but I do not expect that you will be allowed to meet and discuss this with the Potter’s account manager tonight.”

“Why would that not be possible?” Asked Sirius his eyes flashing black as his anger rose within him.
“Because my Lord Black, it is the honorable director of our bank who is the Potter’s account manager and he only took on that account as the Potter’s are considered Goblin friends.” The last part of Chillspine’s response cause Sirius’ mouth to fall open.

Basement Room of a Cottage in Scotland

Vague remembrances of something I should know thought Remus. The full moon had past for the night and it was the early hours of the morning when Remus had transformed back into himself. He could remember a silvery thing floating in front of him that looked like a dog and the whole time Remus’ alter ego had wanted to catch that dog and make him submit to the werewolf in him. Especially on a night like tonight when the moon was full on Halloween. It is one of the more powerful transformations that Remus had gone through in a while but at the same time it was refreshing as the beast within him seems to almost reconcile with the man in him and he would remember more from nights like last night and not hurting himself .

Thankfully, the silver dog was just an illusion and nothing more since the werewolf inside of him last night had gained dominance over the human side so he couldn’t remember as much as he expected to. Still there was something off. A niggling feeling that he was missing something so he started to look around the room outside of the cage to see it there was something that he was missing. To Remus’ surprise there was something different. On the table outside of the cage was a message written down in short choppy hand writing like when someone is short on time and is writing very quickly.

It only took Remus a couple of minutes to fully come to his senses and carefully reach through the cell bars for his wand and then levitate the table over near the cell. It was a useful thing to be able to have a place to stay during his transformations that allowed him to not have to wait until a friend showed up to bring him some food and water while he was back in his human form.

While picking up the pitcher of water to take a drinking Remus’ eyes wandered over the message written on the pad by the dicta quill. The message made him spit the water out in shock of what he read.

Moony, James and Lily are dead by Voldemort’s hand. Wormtail is a traitor. Harry is still alive, taking Harry to a safe place. Claiming what is mine. See you in your monthly cottage as asap.

Remus wasn’t sure what shocked him more, the fact that Sirius hadn’t gone after the traitor or that he was taking his role as Harry’s godfather to the point where he knew he would have to do the one thing he was most loathed to do.

Since Remus knew where they were going to be for a few hours at least while Sirius claimed what was his Remus took another drink of water and grabbed a book off of the table to sit down and wait a while completely comfortable in the cell that his friends had created for him when they couldn’t be out with him during a full moon. In fact as Remus walked back toward the wall a recliner formed out of the floor allowing Remus to sit very comfortably. It was only as he sat down that he remembered who had thought of the idea for the chair that there was magic in the cell that could tell when Remus had his wand in hand would allow the chair to form only when he was in command of himself. The cell would automatically open at sun rise so all Remus could do is wait for Sirius to finish what he was doing and be ready to help his friend deal with the choice he had to make to protect Harry.
