Pete turned over in his bed, rubbing his face into his pillow. It had been a long night with a lot of crying on Cadence's part and a lot of comforting on his. Opening one eye he noticed the spot in the bed next to him empty. It had taken a lot of convincing to get her to stay in his bed last night but finally he had won out. Rolling back over he looked at the clock and it read 8:33am. Sitting up, he smiled seeing Cadence sitting over by the window.
"Hey." Pete whispered as he lifted his head fully out of the bed.
Cadence smiled as she looked over at him. "Hey." She said back.
"Where's Arii?" He asked, he was already using the nickname that Cad used for her daughter.
"Still sleeping." Cadence smiled, how adorable was it that he was asking for Ariana.
"She sleeps past 7am?!" He laughed as he sat up and fixed his messy hair from hanging into his eyes. "Bronx thinks that 5am is the approprite time to wake me up." He yawned.
"Well, you don't have to be to set so why don't you go back to sleep?" Cadence looked at him.
"Why not?" He was confused. "Did you call us out sick?" He smiled. He so badly wanted to get up and go over to her and wrap his arms around her or kiss her. Those were the things he used to do every morning that they woke up together.
Cadence laughed as she stood up, stretching. She had been up for hours. She couldn't sleep well. She was grateful after last night that Pete didn't hate her, but still there was so much on her mind. "No, there are problems with set. Actually neither one of us need to be back to work for about four days." She said. Normally she hated the days when she didn't have to be at work. But now it came in handy. She really needed to look at her income, figure out the house David was in and where she was going from here. She couldn't very well live with Pete for the rest of her life.
"Wow, well that's really perfect..." Pete smiled. "Because I called my parents last night to tell them that I saw you again and well they insisted that you, me and our kids come out and see them."
"Oh..." Cadence wasn't sure how she should feel about that. She loved his parents, but going back to Chicago. That seemed like asking for trouble. "I don't know, Pete.." She trailed off as she suddenly felt her phone vibrate against her leg. She dug it out of her pocket and looked at the name on the screen. "It's David." She said as she picked it up.
"Where is my money?" David's voice boomed as soon as she picked up the phone.
"I gave you everything I had yesterday!" She sighed as she looked down. Right now there was no more money to be had and he knew that. He knew that he had to budget what she could give him.
"No, I want the 100k that your little fuck buddy promised me to let you walk out of this house with my fucking daughter. I swear to god, Cadence." He said through gritted teeth. "You better tell that little fuck that I want my money or I will come there and drag both of you back here by your hair."
Cadence's eyes grew wide as she looked at Pete. "He promised you what?"
Pete looked down. "Give me the phone." He held his hand out as he knew Cadence was probably going to be pissed at him. But he didn't care. All he wanted to do was protect her and Arii and she had to understand that.
Cadence handed him the phone without a second thought. "Do not give him a dime. I will go back." Cadence said as she picked up her jeans off of the floor.
"No, you will not." He shook his head. "Listen, it's not like I have 100k laying around my house. Fuck for your next hit until I get there. You will only have to wait an hour more." Pete said into the phone and then hung up. "Not a word." He looked at her. "When I get back you can be mad, you can scream and throw things-" Pete was suddenly cut off by Cadence's lips pressed firmly against his.
"Thank you." She whispered. "Not for me. But for Ariana." She pulled away. She hadn't expected to feel so much in that kiss, but she felt a whole lot.
"I would pay a million more." He grabbed her wrist and looked in her eye. "There's nothing I wouldn't do for you. And I will not let that little girl go through what I saved you from back in Wilmete." He said as he pulled on his jeans. "I will be back in an hour."
"Pete, be careful, please. He's dangerous." She sighed.
"I'm not scared of him." He grabbed his keys and wallet off of his dresser. "You stay here, you keep that baby safe."
Cadence nodded and watched him go. She wanted to be mad at him, but the fact that he was willing to do anything to make her safe. To give up all that money like it was nothing just so that Ariana was safe was more than she could of ever asked for.
Pete sighed as he walked up to the house. The money in hand. He didn't want to do this. Not because it hurt him to spend this money but for the simple fact that he shouldn't have had to buy the love of his life's freedom.
David opened the door on sight of Pete. "You have my money?" He asked.
"Mind if I come in?" Pete asked.
David pulled the door open and looked at him. That was the last thing he expected for him to ask. Walking into the living room and noticed the heroin and needles sitting on the couch. "It's been a while.." Pete knew what he was doing.
"You?" David looked at him. "You mister goody goody used heroin?"
"I prefer to mix it with these." He showed David the few pills he had in his hand. "You want to have a little party?" Pete asked him.
"Hell yeah. Why not, its your dime." David smirked as he sat down on the couch. Pete sighed and sat down next to him.
"You want me to help you and then you help me?" Pete asked. "I couldn't really ever shoot myself up." Was he really doing this? Was he really going to bait this guy into this. Yes, he was. Because Cadence needed him to.
"Yeah sure, maybe you'll have better luck hitting a vein." David laughed.
Pete nodded and tried to act like he was this guys best friend. He quickly mixed up the concoction he knew would get the job done. Leaning over, he tapped the needle to rid it of the air and quickly found a vein. Within minutes, David's eyes rolled back into his head and he slumped into the chair.
Sitting back, Pete watched and waited until the breathing in David's chest slowed. He couldn't believe he had just done this. Gathering up everything he brought with him, he quickly walked out of the house and back to his car. Taking his cell phone out he dialed Cadence's number.
"Cad, I...I..I went to bring David the money...I think he ODed." He sighed. "He's not breathing." He hung his head. "I'll call 911 now."
