Chapter 40: Clanluna is concerned about Zoug

Iga walked up to Ayla wearing the dress she had made during her mating isolation. It was now warm enough for it, and it drew many stares because is was not, at all, a Clan style.

Ayla took one look at her and announced:

“Your totem has been defeated.”

“Yes, this woman is blessed by Luna, but that is not why this Clanluna needs to speak with you,” signed Iga.

“This Clanluna is concerned about Zoug,” signed Iga. “Since our isolation ended, he has moved into our hearth and he seems sick in spirit. He just sits for long periods of time, not listening, not speaking, just sitting.”

“Have you tried Sharing Pleasures with him?” signed Ayla.

“Not everything is about Pleasures,” signed Iga. “There is more to a mating than just Pleasures. There is also the caring, the loving, the being there for each other.”

“Yes. When this woman lived at Creb’s hearth with him, Zoug rarely gave Iza the Signal,” signed Ayla. “But in every other way, they treated each other like mates.”

“This Clanluna thinks that Zoug is in Love with Iza and seeing her mated to Cruga is breaking his heart,” signed Iga.

“He IS acting like someone under a death curse,” signed Ayla. “But what can be done? Cruga needs a mate to take care of his hearth and Relieve his Needs. But Iza can’t have any more children and her only one left is a girl. Maybe you SHOULD Relieve his Needs?”

“This Clanluna thinks that he would rather Relieve them in you, than this woman,” signed Iga. “But this Clanluna thinks that he would like it more if you took him hunting with you. In addition, this Clanluna will speak to Cruga about letting Zoug move into his hearth and sharing his mate with him.”

‘This woman will do that right now,” signed Ayla.

She walked over to Creb’s hearth and asked:

“Zoug, would you like to go hunting with this woman?” signed Ayla.

Zoug was unresponsive. He looked like a man under a Death Curse. So Ayla got in his face and signed:

“Zoug, would you like to go hunting with this woman?” signed Ayla.

“Hunt ? . . . Hunt? . . . Go hunting?” signed Zoug. “Yes, this man will hunt with you.”

Following Clan tradition, Ayla let him lead her until they were out of sight of the cave. Then, she caught up with him.

They both began walking more carefully and quietly as they used the silent ancient clan language to converse.

“This woman is grateful that you are willing to hunt with her,” signed Ayla. “Most men will not.”

“The man is grateful for a chance to hunt with such a skilled woman using of the sling,” signed back Zoug.

“Watching you teach the sling has taught this woman much about the weapon,” signed Ayla.

“This man can see you are signing a true thing but doesn’t not know how it can be so,” signed Zoug. “You were already more skilled than this man when he first met you.”

“This woman watched you teach when you did not know she was there,” signed Ayla.

They continued to converse like this until Zoug suddenly waved for her to stop. There was a lynx ahead. It saw them and was padding forward like it was preparing to attack them.

They both loaded their slings and prepared, but Ayla held back and let Zoug take the first throw.
He spun this sling and released. It hit the Lynx in the head and killed it! Ayla rushed forward, grabbing a stick. She poked it, but it didn’t react. It was dead.

“Ayla did you see that?” signed Zoug. “This man always said you could kill and lynx with a sling and this man was right!”

Ayla grabbed him in a one armed hug, which he leaned into. Then he gave her an intense look before giving her . . . the Signal!

“This man apologizes,” signed Zoug. “This man should not have done that! He knows that a young woman like you wouldn’t want to Relieve the Needs of an old man like this man. Besides, Broud said you don’t have to submit if you don’t want to.”

Ayla’s reaction was to give him a smile, before she changed her face into the look Clan people give when they are happy. She then, turned away, knelt and presented, like a Clan woman traditionally should.

Zoug stepped over and behind her, and tapped her butt so she would look at him.

“You really don’t have to do this?” signed Zoug.

“This woman is flattered that such an important member of the Clan wants to Relieve his Needs with such a big ugly woman, like this woman,” signed Ayla, as she lowered her shoulders a little more, thrusting her butt up at him.

Zoug moved closer and caressed her butt. She was giving him Needs and she did consent. . . . Zoug proceeded to use her in the traditional Clan style. He knelt between her legs and slid his organ into her. He was surprised to find her wet with Need of her own. Grabbing her hips, he began thrusting into her.

Just as he was finishing up, he moaned out:

“Iza! Iza! Iza!”

After he pulled out, giving her the opportunity to turn around she saw the stricken look on his face.

“It’s all right,” signed Ayla. “This woman knows that you Love Iza like a mate. And Iga is trying to get you into Cruga’s hearth do that you two can be together.

She then pulled him into a full on hug. After she released him, she signed:

“You are this woman’s friend. This woman cares about you. If you ever have Needs, this woman is happy to relieve them. But more importantly. You should know that there is hope that you and Iza will be reunited.

After this incident, Ayla had appointed herself Zoug’s own personal clanluna. She would be available if she needed him. But she knew that the thing that would make him happiest was sharing a hearth with Iza. So she joined Iga’s efforts to get him moved into Cruga’s hearth. She was soon successful and Zoug became a permanent guest at Cruda’s hearth, with permission to Relieve his Needs with Iza.

This year, there were four boys that needed a redfoot. And Ayla’s pregnancy would prevent her from completing their training later in the summer. So Iga had to be redfoot for all of them.

It was early autumn when Ayla’s son was born. Harr wanted to name him Sirius. But it was too difficult a name for Clan people to pronounce and none of the ways it could be shortened were satisfactory. So they settled on naming him Jaymz, after Harr’s birth father.

Drovra became a woman. And after Veen performed her 1st rites, (Under the watchful eye of Iga) she was mated to Aga’s son, Grev.

By the time winter had arrived, Iga had Shared herself with every man in the Clan and impressed them enough that her position as Clanluna was recognized, as was Ayla. Though Ayla was quick to point out that Iga was 1st ranked Clanluna and Ayla was just a Medicine Woman with some more skills than usual.

Winter gave Harr and Ayla time to evaluate the magic skills of themselves and the rest of the Clan.
Harr had taken things all the way through 7th year in Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Charms and Herbalogy. He also had 3 years of Divination and Care of Magical Creatures and 5 years of Astronomy and History. (Which was especially useless in this era) He had never taken Runes or Arithmancy. But he was catching up with Ayla on Runes and this winter they would both be studying Arithmancy together.
Ayla had been taught by Luna through 5th year material in Potions, Herbalogy, Charms, Defense, Transfiguration, Astronomy and Divination. And she had been taught through 7th year in Care of Magical Creatures and Runes. Since Harr’s arrival she had caught up and surpassed him in Potions. But she was unable to silently cast her spells. She also couldn’t do apparition or any of the 6-7th year Charms, Transfiguration or Defense.
The weez-urs from this era were able to learn Charms, Defense and some Transfiguration. And were able to do it all silently. The other subjects they found more challenging. But they were able to learn how to fly brooms.

Harr were going over this all because he knew that someday, they would be teaching Ayla’s children magic.
