Chapter 10 A Different Kind of Draco
Harry woke up in a hospital bed with a headache, but other than that no worse for the wear. Although he was still slightly confused as to why he was back in here in the first place. He reached to the side table to grab his glasses, but the first sight he saw made him wish he had never put them on. Draco was sitting in the chair by his bed sleeping. Why was he even there? But more importantly which way would he choose to murder Harry when he woke up? Because Harry hadn't forgotten the kiss, and knowing the blond he hadn't either. That was another thing, what had possessed him to actually let Cho kiss him? Except of course the obvious choice of wanting his own death. He didn't have anymore time to think it over because the blond stirred. His gray eyes opened to look at Harry, and the boy could have sworn he saw hurt go through his eyes before the same impassive smirk appeared on his face.
"Finally awake Harry, and here I thought I was going to have to sleep in this chair for yet another day...You do know we have to leave in few hours don't you?" Harry couldn't help it, his jaw dropped. Was Draco being nice to him? Was he even talking to him? Why the hell wasn't he threatening to rip out his throat for what he did? And what the hell did he mean they had to leave in a few hours...last time he checked they still had three days till that nightmare of a trip.
"What the hell is going on Malfoy?" The blond looked amused at Harry's obvious stupidity.
"Well Harry when you passed out you stayed that way for a verra long time, so long in fact that the train leaves in about two hours. I was getting worried that I couldn't take you...and how much fun would that be." Harry watched in horror as Draco actually smiled...fucking smiled at him after he had done no less than actually cheat on him.
"Draco why the hell are you being like this...I don't see Madam Pomfrey...and for fucks sake even when teacher's are around you're not even like this." Draco got a confused expression on his face, and Harry had the sudden urge to punch him.
"What are you going on about love? Did you hit your head a little to hard or something?" Harry's eyes widened. He was actually acting as if nothing was wrong. A chill went through his spine at the thought of his lover being so nice...especially after what had happened. He relaxed however when Draco leaned down to kiss him. It was so gentle, there was no demand at all in it, and after he pulled away Harry felt tears start to pool at his eyes.
"Can you hand me my clothes Draco?" He was fighting back tears, but he didn't know why. It was like the blond was a completely different person, and Harry wasn't quite sure how to act. So after receiving his clothes he couldn't help but blush when Draco was staring intently at him.
"Why ever are you blushing Harry...I mean it's not as if I haven't seen your body before." Harry tried to smile, not knowing how real it looked. It probably looked rather forced, but at that moment he didn't really care. The blond wasn't the same, and he was about to go spend the entire break with him. Then the thought of Snape went through his mind. He would have to...he would have to kill him. It was all too much for Harry to bare, and he fell to the floor, falling to pieces. He immediately felt arms wrap around him, but he wouldn't take comfort in them. After all his Draco would never offer it. Even how bad that sounded he knew it was the truth. "Harry what's wrong?" He looked into the blond's eyes, and held back a sob.
"Nothing I just...I gotta go pack." An arm stopped Harry from leaving right there, and when he turned he saw desperation in Draco's eyes. He obviously didn't want him to leave.
"It's alright you don't have to go...I already packed for you...now please tell me why you were crying." Harry saw that disgustingly sick smile on the blond's face again, and couldn't stand being anywhere near it.
"No you...why are acting like this?...I really have to go." Harry ripped his arm from Draco's grasp, and ran out of the room before the blond could grab him again. Harry ran as fast as he could to Gryffindor common room. All he wanted to do know was throw himself on his bed, and cry himself into a pitiful sleep. He had almost succeeded in making it all the way to the portrait hole when it suddenly swung open to reveal a very shocked Ron.
"Fuck Harry you're a mess! I saw what happened at the dance. That little ferret must have really laid into you." This caused Harry to completely brake down, and he sunk to his knees where he was standing. Ron, not really knowing what he should do, bent down and tentavily placed a hand on his former friend's shoulder. "Umm are you alright?"
"No, no I'm not alright! I'm verra fucking far from alright ...I haven't been alright for a long time, but I could deal with it, I had him...now" Ron sighed.
"Broke it off with you did he...sorry I guess" Harry narrowed his eyes. Not only did the red head not sound sorry, but his voice actually seemed happy.
"No he didn't break it off...he he." Ron looked a little disappointed, but seemed to still be interested in what could be causing his ex-best friend's distress.
"What did he do then?" Harry full out scowled at the red head now. He couldn't possibly tell him, the reason after all sounded ridiculous. "Oh come on Harry it can't be as bad as some of the things I know about that little ferret."
"Okay, but mind you this is going to sound a little ridiculous...and well he changed when I woke up he was all smiling, and being nice, and when I cried he actually tried to comfort me, and I mean he should be like wanting to kill me or fucking me to the brink of death or something...it's just odd." Harry felt Ron shudder as he was sure a horrible mental picture went through his head, but then to his surprise the red head smiled.
"Oh and Harry I can see why you would be so upset too...I mean him actually being nice instead of a complete sadistic fuck...Who wouldn't be crying right now? Here I think you should go demand that he remove at least one body part as punishment for your behavior." Harry stared dumbly. Had Ron just made a joke? Had Ron just acted like the way they used to? Obviously reading Harry's mind, or the extremely dumb look on his face, he smiled and added. "It was a joke mate, and don't worry I haven't been possessed, and something tells me the ferret hasn't either."
"Then how do you explain the way he's acting?" Ron shrugged.
"Well that's obvious isn't it? There was only so long the two of you could go on acting like each other, and now that you've turned into a git he's being forced to be the nice one." Harry couldn't help but smile, and was so surprised at how much he had missed his friend. "Now as much as I would like to continue this talk about the oddities of Draco Malfoy, I have to make a train, and I think you do too...So let's say we do just the oddest thing, and go together." Harry felt himself smile again, and nod dumbly. He couldn't believe how his day was going.
The two made their way to the train, ignoring the odd looks from people at seeing the two old friends suddenly reunited. Though reunited wasn't exactly what Harry would call it...maybe being civil for a day...that had a ring to it. Ron was catching Harry up on all the latest gossip that had happened in Gryffindor...all of which Harry wasn't really listening to. He found the best approach was nod his head, and every once in awhile add small words like "Yeah" and "Uh huh" It seemed to satisfy the red head, so he continued his tactics until they had reached the train. Where Harry saw a glimmer of blond, which was steadily headed in his direction.
"Harry I was looking everywhere for you." His eyes glanced towards Ron, and Harry could have sworn he saw a quick glimpse of revulsion in them. "Should have known you would be with your...friend." Harry felt a sick feeling in his stomach when Draco was actually nice to Ron.
"I see what you mean mate...I think he has switched bodies. I mean when he is actually nice to me you have to start worrying." Harry thought he saw the blond shoot Ron a glare, but it was quickly replaced by another smile, and Harry could feel himself start to get sick.
"You think I switched bodies love?...Is that why you ran out so suddenly? I really think you must have hit your head." Draco stepped forward, placing a hand on Harry's head before leaning forward and kissing it. Harry stared wide-eyed. Had Draco really just kissed him in public? "There did I kiss it and make it all better?" Harry was too shocked to speak, and looking over he saw that the red head held about the same expression as him.
"You do realize people might have seen that, don't you Draco?" The blond smiled again. Something Harry was really beginning to despise. Sure he had seen it, but it had been in some of their most intimate moments. He had loved seeing it then, but now he wished the look didn't exist.
"Umm yeah of course Harry, and explain to me why that would be a problem?" Harry couldn't muster anything anymore. He just grabbed Ron's arm and dragged him to the train. Not noticing a pair of narrowed gray eyes burning holes in his back.
They finally found an empty compartment, and Harry, quickly locking it, turned to the red head. "Ron what the hell is wrong with him?...Do you think someone is doing this to him?" To Harry's surprise Ron broke into fits of laughter. Harry dumped himself into the nearest chair, and harrumphed. The red head seemed to notice this and looked up.
"I'm sorry Harry, but you have to admit it is extremely funny...to me of course. To you it must be like a nightmare." Harry narrowed his eyes to slits.
"This isn't funny this is..." Harry was interrupted by a knock on the window, and looked up to see that it was Hermione who seemed to have a murderous look on her face. Ron quickly got up, and removed the locking charm, though afterwards he wished he wouldn't have.
"What in the world do you think you're doing Ronald Weasley sitting here with this pathetic thing?" He tried to ignored the part about being referred to as a pathetic thing, and instead glanced towards his friend. Ron had a fearful look on his face, and Harry was actually kind of glad that at least everyone hadn't switched personalities.
"It's not like that Hermione...I'm sure the whole Hagrid thing was just Malfoy's idea anyways, and now that he is well...nice I'm sure he'll go apologize to Hagrid personally...Hell he'll probably even buy him flowers." Harry couldn't help but laugh at the mental image that Draco buying Hagrid flowers might represent.
"Yeah somehow I doubt that...and what's all this talk about the ferret now being nice?" Harry smiled at her, and she huffily took a seat in the compartment. She was a might bit pissed at him, but her curiosity still got the better of her in the end. So with great reluctance Harry and Ron explained what had been going on. Half way through the story Harry couldn't help but really smile. It seemed like old times again, and he wondered why he had ever thought of giving it up.
After Ron had finished relaying the details Hermione looked shocked, but then broke down into a fit of giggles. "You can't be serious!...What is wrong with you both?" They both gave her questioning looks so, with a huff she decided to continue. "Why are the both of you so upset by this? Though I doubt he acted quite like you said you should be glad he's being nice, and not the heartless, not to mention sadistic, git he usually is."
"No Hermione you didn't see him...he actually kissed my forehead in public...That's something he would never do...He's so different." ." Hermione frowned, and then shook her head.
"Oh I get it Harry, but what I don't get is why you're so upset by it. Shouldn't you be glad that he's treating you actually decent?" Harry frowned. Truthfully he didn't know why this bothered him so much. Hermione was right he should be happy. He loved him didn't he? Then the fact that he's acting all lovey dovey towards him should make him ecstatic. Then why did it freak him out so much?
"Because it's not him...He would never act like that, and I didn't fall for this one. He's a completely different person." Harry felt so ashamed that he was practically whining now.
"Oh I see so instead of someone who actually treats you decent , you fell in love with the asshole one. Harry what the hell is wrong with you?" Harry crossed his arms, narrowing his eyes at the girl. The conversation was getting old fast.
"Listen I have to go to the Slytherin compartment...people will be mad." Harry got up to leave, and as an after thought added "Err thanks for listening, and for being friends again...I really do miss you guys." Before waiting for a response he left the compartment. He definitely couldn't deal with that right now. He had probably the two worst weeks of his life coming up, and his head was full of doubt. He loved Draco...he would do anything for him, but this wasn't his Draco. Could he really kill someone for those reasons? Could he really kill someone for a person who wasn't the person he fell in love with?
"There you are Harry." He spun around so fast that his nose hit the blond's chin. Which caused the blond to laugh. "Easy there tiger...Where were you?" Harry narrowed his eyes. Now was the point to test his sincerity in this little act.
"With Ron and Hermione." To Harry's surprise Draco stood there stone faced...though he couldn't help but notice that when he first said it there was anger in his eyes.
"Well that's good. You won't be able to see them for awhile, and you're talking again so that's good too." Harry couldn't help but laugh. That was the worst attempt to act as if nothing was wrong he had ever heard. Draco was up to something, and he was determined to find out what it was.
"So Drakey it doesn't bother you in the slightest that I was hanging out with my Gryffindor friends?" Harry smiled when he saw the disgust in his eyes at the name Drakey, but it was only there for a second before it too was gone.
"Why would that bother me love? They are your friends...it's not as if I'm going to make you not hang out with them or anything." Harry was really starting to get annoyed now. He actually scowled at the blond. He would make him act normal again if it was the last thing he did.
"Prove it." He saw the blond raise his eyebrows, and thought he would actually have some fun before they arrived at hell.
"Prove it?" Harry glanced down to Draco's fists to see them suddenly clench, but after seeing his eyes they returned to normal.
"Yeah, if you don't mind me being their friend again, then why don't you go into their compartment and apologize to them for all the things you did...You know just so they know that there's no hard feelings." The blond quickly spun around to get something out of his bag, but Harry had a feeling if he were to see the blond's face it would be covered with a disgusted look. But it was gone when he turned back around, and he had a chocolate frog, placing it in Harry's hand.
"Of course. It is the least I can do...now eat up. You look pale." Draco turned, heading to the compartment, and Harry couldn't stop the grin that spread across his face before stuffing the frog in his mouth. They entered the compartment, and were met by two shocked Gryffindor's.
"What do you want Malfoy?" Hermione had stood up...obviously still upset about everything he had done. Which Harry really couldn't blame her, Draco was an ass...but a loveable ass he added as an afterthought.
"Keep your skirt on Gr...Hermione I just came to talk to you and Ron." Hermione rolled her eyes before slumping into her seat.
"What could you possibly have to talk to us about ferret, and since when did you start calling Hermione by her first name huh?" Draco smiled at them, and they both gawked. Though Harry would have been right there gawking with them if he didn't know better. All he had to do now was wait for the blond to crack. Said blond had just taken a seat in the compartment, and smiled again at the people who he hated with a passion.
"You two aren't verra trusting are you?" He sighed before continuing, and Harry took this opportunity to take a seat next to him. "Well I guess I haven't really given the both of you any reason to trust me have I...I mean after all the stuff I put the both of you through I should be considering myself lucky." Hermione actually started laughing at this.
"Oh come of it Malfoy. Do you actually expect us to believe any of this crap? I mean you can't actually expect us to believe that you're resentful...What next are you going to tell me you've come here to apologize and beg for our forgiveness?" Draco reluctantly smiled, and Harry actually almost broke out in fits of laughter. He had to hide it behind a cough. I mean it must be hard enough for Draco to try to pull this off without somebody braking out into giggles every two seconds.
"Actually yes...I have come to tell the both of you that I'm sorry for the way I've been...I'm sorry for taking Harry away from you, and am ecstatic that you guys managed to patch things up, and I'm sorry about Hagrid." Ron was smiling full heartily now.
"Don't forget my brothers ferret...oh yeah and Harry. I want you to look him in the eyes and tell him you're sorry and will never do anything like you were doing to him again." Draco raked a hand through his hair...something Harry knew him to do when he was beyond frustrated. He did after all hate to ruin such nice hair.
"Of course Ron I forgot all about your brothers...their discrepancies will no longer be up for public knowledge." Harry scowled. He still hadn't discovered the secret about the twins.
"You know why you're in nice mode you can at least tell me what you were black mailing them for." Draco smirked before looking at Ron who looked completely shocked.
"You mean you don't know Harry?" Harry shook his head, suddenly feeling very stupid, but it was Draco who of course responded for him.
"No Ron he doesn't know, and if we play our cards right I don't see a reason why I should ever feel the need to tell him." Draco held out his hand, leaving the three others to look at it, and him skeptically. "Now do we have an understanding?" Hermione narrowed her eyes.
"An understanding about what exactly Malfoy?" Draco raised his eyebrows in confusion, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Friendship of course...I really want us to be friends...seeing as how you're so stuck on Harry, and I would do anything for him." They quickly each grabbed his hand, not really wanting to linger very long. Harry was appalled though. The blond had actually gone through with it. He was sure he would definitely crack by now. He was even more shocked when he felt a hand on his thigh, and looked over to see the blond smirking at him. The hand slowly moved from his thigh to his face, pulling the boy to him for another gentle kiss. "I have to go back to my compartment...join me in 10 minutes will you?" Harry felt himself dumbly nod before watching the blond get up and walk out.
"What the hell was that all about?" Harry looked over at Hermione and Ron who both had looks on their faces that seemed to be a mixture between confusion and amusement.
"Never in all my years did I ever expect a Malfoy to apologize to me...wait till I tell dad." Hermione scowled at the red head.
"Oh Ron would you grow up...He's obviously doing this for some reason. I just haven't figured out what yet." This seemed to spark a thought in Ron's mind, and a look of anger suddenly came over him.
"That sneaky little ferret...He got out of here without apologizing to Harry...He never even said he regretted it." Harry's eyes widened. It was true he had apologized to all his friends, but never had he said one thing about Harry. In fact even through all his niceness and smiles he hadn't once ever really looked Harry in the eyes.
"He's gotta be making it up...I just wish I knew why." Then a thought struck Harry. He had been nice to him in the hospital wing, but it hadn't been this ridiculous niceness till he saw him with Ron and Hermione. Did Draco want them to like him? Is that why he was doing this? And even if that were the case why hadn't he told Harry? Said boy's stomach lurched when he thought about what the blond could possibly be planning that made him go to such levels, but he knew he shouldn't blow it for him.
"I don't think he is Hermione." The girl stared at him shocked.
"What? Of course he is Harry don't be ridiculous."
"No, I know him remember...I think he's really sincere...maybe you should give him chance." It was Ron who responded to this, because Hermione looked too shocked to speak.
"Umm mate you sure you're okay? I mean Malfoy didn't make you say this or anything did he?"
"Of course he didn't make me say it...I think you should give him a chance. After all he did apologize and offer you friendship." Hermione looked pissed, and Harry prayed that he wasn't going to get slapped again.
"Yeah Harry he apologized to us...people he's hated forever, and not to mention he didn't say one thing in lines of an apology towards you, when that is why our friendship broke apart in the first place." Harry narrowed his eyes at the girl...sometimes she could be way too difficult.
"I know he didn't Hermione, because I didn't ask for an apology. But I did ask him to tell you guys that, and he did without question. Now I'm asking you guys to please give him a chance...maybe you can learn to like this new Draco. He seems to have really changed." Harry couldn't believe he was doing this. He didn't believe one word that was coming out of his mouth, and prayed that this was what the blond wanted him to do. And that maybe after this he might still have the two in front of him as friends. "You guys think about it...I'm going to go to the other compartment...and please try. I really want us to remain friends, and if you're on Draco's good side I know we can be." Without waiting for a response he left the room, hating himself more and more.
Still thinking about why in the hell Draco had done that, and more importantly why he had played along, he entered the Slytherin compartment. Draco, Blaise, Crabbe, Goyle, and Pansy all looked up when he entered.
"Well if it isn't Harry Potter...We were beginning to think you weren't coming." Harry smirked at Blaise before taking a seat next to Draco.
"Yeah Harry we thought that your little fainting spell might've made you change...and here I didn't know that the famous Harry Potter could be turned to goo by just one little kiss...You don't think she's prettier then me do you Harry?" Harry shot a look at Draco when Pansy mentioned the kiss, but he was conveniently looking the other way.
"Oh come on Panse you know no one could be prettier than you." The Slytherin girl blushed, and as if Harry's day couldn't get any weirder, Draco did something unthinkable. He pulled him in for a kiss. It was rougher than any of the ones he had given him today, and when he pulled back Harry had a look that could only be described as horror on his face.
"Oh don't say that Potter...I personally think I'm prettier then her. Don't tell me you like her better...and after everything we've shared." Harry quickly glanced around the compartment, everyone seemed to be just as shocked as Harry was at recent events. Everyone that is except Blaise, who looked like he was trying to stifle laughter. Finding no help from anybody else, he turned to the blond who was smirking at his obvious confusion.
"Draco...umm what...what are you doing?" Draco laughed before looking around at everybody's faces.
"Ah cat's outta the bag Harry...I just couldn't stand hiding you anymore." Harry was aware his mouth was hanging open, but made no move to close it. His last theory about the blond wanting to get on Ron and Hermione's good side was completely blown out of the window. Now the only thought he had was that the blond had really gone crazy.
"Oh Draco you're so mean...I had my suspicions of course, but now two of the best guys are out of commission." Harry stared at Pansy...she really wasn't helping matters by being so okay with this. Then a thought struck him.
"Wait what do you mean you had your suspicions?" Everyone in the train laughed at Harry's expense. Even Draco's two lackeys gave a chuckle.
"Gryffindor's they just aren't that bright I guess." Harry glared at Draco who was still smiling. There was no way he was going to put him through all the shit he was pulling today, and then on top of it all make fun of him.
"Well you know if all of you Slytherins don't want to have a Gryffindor around anymore then you won't mind me leaving." Harry was thoroughly pissed, and had actually got up to leave when two arms snaked around his waist, pulling him back to land with an 'ummph' on Draco's lap.
"Now now love don't get so upset. I was only kidding." Harry was still so shocked he had pulled him onto his lap in public, that in case it was a mistake he tried to wriggle off, only to be held back by strong arms.
"I don't know Draco it doesn't look to me like he's all that fond of you." He heard the blond scoff.
"Don't be ridiculous Pansy...my verra own sex slave would do anything I ask him." Harry full out blushed at being called Draco's sex slave, and he only got redder when the girl had the audacity to laugh at him.
"Oh I see Draco...I just got really pretty mental images...if you'll excuse me I have to go use the ladies room." With that said she jumped up and made her way out of the compartment with a large grin on her face. Harry spun around to face Draco.
"You do realize what she just went to do don't you?" Draco smiled.
"I imagine to tell the entire school of our relationship...and in doing so outing the both of us to the world." Harry stared shocked.
"And you...you're okay with this?...Why doesn't this bother you?...Why are you doing this...for fuck sake please just tell me why?" The blond shot quick looks at Blaise, Crabbe, and Goyle who were acting as if they weren't listening.
"I don't know what you're talking about Harry...You really are acting quite odd today." Harry thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head. If the blond was going to make a complete personality switch he could have at least informed him first. He shot off the lap he was in. Draco had gone to far and the raven-haired boy just couldn't take anymore.
"I'm acting odd? I'm acting odd!? What the hell is going on with you Draco...I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! I mean what the fuck is going...ahhhhh" Harry leaned down, gripping his arm. The mark was burning through his skin again. He looked up, quickly noticing the shocked look that was covering the blond's face. Well this was just great. Now Draco no doubt figured out about the mark, and he really didn't want him to find out like this. He also didn't fail to notice the looks the other people in the compartment were giving him.
"What seems to be wrong with your arm love?" Harry could hear the strangled anger in Draco's voice. Apparently the whole niceness thing didn't apply to when he found out that the so called savor of the wizarding world had the dark mark. Not knowing what to do he did the first thing that came to him. Harry made a quick dash to the compartment door, but not quick enough. The blond's arms flew around him, blocking his way out, and he turned to see absolute furry in his lover's eyes. "Don't you even think about leaving."
"Draco...listen it's not what you think...just let me out...I have to go talk to someone." This was obviously the wrong thing to say as a fist crashed into his jaw.
"You have to talk to someone do you...would this someone happen to be named VOLDEMORT?" Harry's eyes widened. The blond had been angry with him, but never like this. He was actually wishing that nice Draco were back.
"What! Of course not...you don't think that I would."
"You know what Potter I actually do think...now role up your sleeve or I'll do it for you." Harry's eyes widened. There was no way this was actually happening to him now...not right before what he had to do. He actually felt tears coming to his eyes, but the blond's held no sympathy.
"Draco please don't this...Just let me go." A hand clasped around his neck and he found himself gasping for breath. He was definitely getting no sympathy from the blond. The hand that wasn't around his neck grabbed his arm, ripping open his sleeve to reveal the skull glowing fiercely on his skin. At the sight of it the hand around his neck tightened. Draco was glaring maliciously at him.
"When did this happen?" Harry let the tears fall freely from his eyes now. He couldn't even bare to look him in the eyes anymore. He let his head fall while still gasping for breath. The hand around his throat let go, and instead grabbed his face, making him look into stormy eyes. The other inhabitants of the room were forgotten...now it was only the two of them. "Answer me Potter."
"Draco please I can't he'll he'll" Draco scowled at this.
"And since when have you been afraid of Voldemort Harry?...And here I always thought that was what you were famous for." Harry didn't want to look at the blond anymore, but a strong hand kept his gaze on him.
"Not him...Si...Silas" To Harry's surprise the blond let go, and the anger faded from his face only to be replaced by shock, and what Harry could have sworn was fear.
"You...you know the prince?" Harry's eyes widened when Draco called him that, and then the conversation he had with Silas came back. He had said that he had slept with Draco, of course the blond would know who he was, but why did he act like this?
"Yes Mr. Malfoy he knows me...in fact me and Harry here have become some what close, and if I could just add you Draco are in very big trouble."
,.,..,.,.,.,.,.,..,.,.,.,.,.,..,.,..,.,.,.
