Enjoy...
~Patrick's POV~
He had been in the band a few years, and there wasn't anything that could make him regret the decision. They were getting so famous, but that wasn't why he loved it; he loved being able to make music. He sat in his contentment while they drove down the unfamiliar road. There was no GPS all they had was a napkin with scribbled directions and a coffee stained map.
"TURN LEFT! NOW!" he heard someone yell from behind him followed by a sharp turn. He was laughing as he looked at his best friend at the wheel. He looked flustered. No matter how big they got he knew deep down they would always be friends. Nothing had ever happened to make him think otherwise. He was still smiling when they turned into the parking lot of an old, but large theatre.
"Whoa... this is different. Are we too early? Can you call Ben, Pete?" Patrick looked at his best friend and readjusted his hat, pulling it down and to the side. Pete pulled out his cell-phone and handed Patrick the car keys, while they walked toward the front door.
It smelled like paint, like they had just recently painted the brick-red lobby walls. For being an old theatre it look pretty good. As he walked down the lobby he noticed voices coming from behind the other side of the curtains in front of him. He reached for it to pull it back; a man pushed himself through them. The man was in his late 50's and dressed in a dress shirt and slacks. He held a pale green tie in his hand.
"Patrick! You are a tad bit early, but no matter you can stay for the show. Come with me everyone..." Benjamin Hart Pryce said in his crisp English accent. The band followed him up a set of stairs to a large balcony. "This should be over soon; Just a presentation for our music program. I'll be back shortly..." He mumbled as he walked down the stairs and struggled to put his tie on.
Patrick sat down and looked out onto the stage. 100 or so people were all sitting down in the front seats waiting. Ben walked onstage and grabbed the microphone from the stand.
"I would like to welcome everyone to the Lyric Historical Theatre. Each and Every one of you has signed up for our summer program. This will be a decision that you will not regret. Let me introduce you to the person responsible for this program...Claire Murphy." Ben placed the microphone back on the stand and walked off stage.
~Claire's POV~
Claire paced back and forth. Since she asked Ben to start the program two years before, she always got nervous of the presentation portion. After all she was only 18 and these people were her peers. Ben was talking on the microphone, and she had heard her name. He walked offstage and patted her on the shoulder. "I hate you!" she whispered and looked down at her outfit. She was wearing a green tank top and jeans. I should have dressed up more... she thought as she walked onstage and toward the microphone.
"Uh... Hi Everyone... I um... just well..." Claire looked out into the teenagers sitting in front of her. Why should she care what they think? She straightened up and found her voice. "I started this program about two years ago. I wanted something that could teach kids of all ages about music. Not just singing, but dancing, instruments, musical theatre, song writing, and most importantly finding your own personal niche that makes music more fun." These kids weren't even paying attention to her. "Today we are gonna show you some examples of what you guys will be working on this summer. I hope you enjoy and remember to have fun." Claire walked back stage and let out a deep breath. The smiles that came from backstage toward her were welcomed greatly. "Come on guys, first dance! Go kick ass!" she whispered as a few girls walked past her to the stage. This wouldn't take very long and Claire was antsy to have all these people leave.
"You did good Claire." Ben said to her as she hugged him. Ben was like a father to her, and he was nothing but honest. "Are you ready for your dance?"
"Oh, I am just thrilled!" She exclaimed sarcastically as she pulled of her shoes and slipped on ballet slippers. Three laughing girls walked briskly offstage and collapsed onto the floor. Their dance was complicated, but they looked like they had fun.
Claire walked over to the edge of the stage where a group of guys had already huddled. She wrapped her arms around one of there waists and kissed his back. He turned around and smiled at her. His name was D.J. he was tall and an excellent musician. He could sing pretty well and he was so cute. They had been kind of dating but it was nothing serious. She had learned her lesson long ago about dating musicians.
"Are you nervous?" He asked leaning down toward her face.
"I won't be once we get up there, but right now I am all jittery..." She whispered. He smiled and kissed her quickly as the music started. They ran onstage and got in position.
The dance wasn't very complicated, but you had to sing as well. It was only about 2 minutes long and when it was done, Claire walked off stage and put her shoes back on. She was all done and thankfully at that. There were still a few solos to watch and a scene from a play, so Claire snuck around to the back of theatre to head out into the lobby. She climbed the stairs halfway and sat until she saw people exiting the theatre.
~Patrick's POV~
The girl walked on stage and was fumbling with her words, he could relate. Patrick was very shy, that's why Pete dealt with all the publicity and magazines. The first dance looked tricky, and the second one he couldn't really see. The singing was actually pretty good, nothing special, and the musical theatre... he had seen better ones. He wasn't being snooty or judgmental, just observant.
As people were leaving he noticed the girl who was fumbling with her words... Claire he remembered as her name. She was walking back toward the stage. Patrick stood up to get a better look at her. She looked about 20 from were he was sitting, and she had to be older, because Ben had said she had started the music program a few years earlier.
"Is it over?" Pete asked sitting up quickly.
"I wouldn't expect any more from you Pete; falling asleep during a performance." Ben said from behind them.
Ben was an old friend of Patrick's. They met when he was barely learning music as a teenager. Although, he didn't live in Illinois; he visited regularly to help teach music at high schools. The rest of the band had of course met him long ago and they all looked up to him as a musical genius.
The band was playing a three day festival in town and they had called Ben to visit, but Patrick had an ulterior motive for coming by. He had been struggling with a few newer songs and he hoped Ben could help get them perfect.
"It's good to see you Ben." Patrick said shaking his hand.
"It's good to see you guys; Joe, Andy, Pete, and you Patrick." Ben smiled them. "How is your band going? What's it called again? Forgive me I am not as sharp as I once was." Ben said as he led them down the stairs toward the theatre.
"Fall Out Boy" Pete said as they followed him.
"Oh yes, and you guys are doing well I suppose; since you are playing that big festival out there." Ben said in a husky voice. He broke into a fit of coughs and leaned against the entryway for support. Patrick went to help him up. He looked so fragile, what happened to the strong music teacher he remembered. "Sorry, just a cough, he he"
"Are you sure you are okay?" Andy asked standing behind Patrick.
Instead of responding, Ben smiled and walked toward the stage. The girl was sitting on the edge of the stage with a textbook in front of her. Up close he could see she wasn't old at all; she must have been 18 or so. She didn't look up. She just jotted notes down in a small notebook.
"Claire, these..." Ben began but was cut off.
"Ben, I am studying." She said not looking up. Patrick noticed she was biting her lip and seemed to be really concentrating.
Ben laughed it off, and motioned for the band to follow him toward the backstage area. "Well then I guess you won't be meeting her, yet"
Patrick was the last to follow, hoping the girl would look up and let him have a better look at her face. She didn't.
~Claire's POV~
Everyone had left and Claire decided she should start studying for her math final. She was graduating next week...If she passed her final. Ben walked toward her and started introducing her to someone, but she wasn't in any mood. "Ben, I am studying." She said not looking up. He laughed and they left. She was nearly done with her notes and soon she could finish up and go home.
20 minutes later Claire shut her book and put it under her head like a pillow. She was finally done with her notes and wicked tired. "BEN! WHAT DID YOU NEED ME FOR EARLIER!?" she yelled backstage. Nobody answered. Angrily, Claire stood up and walked backstage. "Ben?" she said pulling the curtains back. Nobody was there.
It was dark and quiet. There were footsteps inside the storage room to her right. "Ben? Are you there?" She whispered as she was about turn the doorknob. As her hand touched the knob, the door flung open and hit her right in the face.
"Ahh!" she squealed as she was flung backwards onto the floor. She didn't recognize the figure that walked out of the room, because of the dark. Something wet and sticky was getting into her eyes. It was blood.
"Oh, crap I am so sorry!" A voice said as they dropped to the floor in front of her.
Enjoy...
