"This is going to be a great honeymoon." Alicia said as she fed her luggage through the x-ray machine at the airport.
"Yeah, you're tellin' me!" Mikey said with a wide smile, stepping through the metal detector, "I am gonna miss the tour though. But at least I'll have you to occupy my time." They shared a short, but meaningful kiss, "Shit, you can take my mind off of anything."
"That's my job." Alicia replied, giving Mikey a nudge.
=|=|=|=
With ten minutes until the couple had to board their flight, Mikey decided to run down to the Starbucks at the end of the hall to get some coffee for the ride.
"You and your coffee," Alicia laughed, "You just better hurry up, I'm not missing this flight for coffee."
Mikey smiled, said he'd be back in two minutes and gave Alicia another kiss.
=|=|=|=
Mikey paid the clerk and headed toward his gate, which mind you was about a quarter mile (the first Starbucks he came to was closed so he had to keep walking). His sidekick buzzed in his pocket. He fumbled to get it out while holding his coffee.
"Hey gorgeous." He answered.
"Oh don't you 'Hey gorgeous' me." Came Alicia's annoyed voice on the other line, "You should be here by now. We're boarding in like one minute. What's the hold up?"
Mikey gave a sort of nervous laugh, "Well you see it's a funny story actually," he heard no reply so he assumed she was listening and went on, "You see the first Starbuck I came to was closed so I thought I'd just keep walking down t-"
Alicia then cut him off, "You walked all the way down to the next one?!"
"Yeah."
"Ugh well, just get here fast. Hey I got to go, we're boarding now, so just walk faster ok?"
"Yeah, don't worry I'll be there." Mikey heard Alicia sigh, "And hey,"
"Yeah?"
"Save me a window seat?"
"Yeah alright." He could tell she was smiling. She could never stay angry at him for long, that's what he loved about her.
"I love you."
"Love you too." Alicia added and they clicked off their phones.
Indeed, Mikey sped up his walking pace. He glanced down at his boarding pass to check his gate number. He saw an 86 written in bold at the bottom, he stuffed it back into his pocket at he passed gate 79.
Mikey sighed, "Almost there."
He smiled as he saw the red 86 above the gate he was approaching. He walked up to the small desk by the door and tried to show his pass, but the woman pushed it back refusing to take it.
"I'm sorry sir, this gate is not boarding at this time."
"What?! But my wife is on there."
"That's impossible sir, this gate will not board for another half hour."
"What?" Just then, Mikey's phone rang again. "Yeah?"
"Hey, what's going on? Where are you?" Alicia asked worriedly.
"I'm at the gate, but this woman won't let me in!" He gave a stern look in the woman's direction.
"Here, let me talk to her." Alicia demanded.
Mikey handed the sidekick over to the woman, "My wife would like a word with you."
"Yes sir." She put the phone up to her ear, "Yes ma'am?"
Mikey couldn't make out much of what Alicia was saying, but he could here her yelling. God he loved that woman. He listed to his side of the conversation.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but we are not boarding right now."
. . .
"Yes I understand."
. . .
"Alright, I will look at his pass." She held out her hand and Mikey gave her his boarding pass. She looked at it then proceeded to speak with Alicia.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but I think your husband is a bit lost."
. . .
"Yes you see, he is at gate 86. His boarding pass is for gate 98."
. . .
Mikey felt like a fool. When he had glanced at his pass earlier, it wasn't an 86 at the bottom, he was looking at it upside down. It was a 98 at the top.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but it looks like your husband will just have to wait for the next flight to your destination which will be tomorrow at noon."
. . .
"Yes ma'am, enjoy your flight."
She handed the phone back to a sullen Mikey, "I'm very sorry sir, but you will just have to wait for tomorrow. Your wife's plane has just took off."
A/N: Aw, poor Mikey missed his flight. Men just can't seem to follow directions, they always seem to get lost don't they? Well, what are you waiting for? Review! Review like you've never reviewed before! lol
