..Frank's POV..
"So, where do you want to eat?" Jillian asked me.
"I was thinking Nirvana on Central Park South. It's a really nice view," I replied.
"Sounds good!" she said. We hopped on the subway and took it uptown and walked to Nirvana.
"So I spend most of the night with this beautiful girl and now I'm taking her out to dinner, but I don't even know her last name," I said. Jillian smiled.
"It's Palamino," she told me.
"Jillian Palamino. Has a very nice ring to it," I told her.
"Why thank you Frank No-Last Name."
"Iero. Frank Iero," I said in a mocking James Bond sort of way that made her giggle. We walked into the restaurant and were seated right away.
"So tell me about your band," she said,
"Well for starters, we're having another show on Friday in Newark and I'd really like it if you came," I said.
"Count me in!" she said.
"Good. Well let's see... Gerard Way started the band shortly after 9/11. He worked in the city at the time as an artist. He's really talented. Anyway, he was 24 at the time and he saw the planes fly into the buildings and it really shook him up. He knew he wanted to start a band and sing songs that would impact people's lives. That's when he called up Ray Toro and asked him to play guitar because he's amazing at it. Then he called Matt Pelissier to lay down some drum tracks for a song he wrote called "Skylines and Turnstiles." He then asked his younger brother Mikey to play bass. Gerard and Mikey used to work at the Barnes & Noble in Cifton Park together and Mikey saw a book by Irvine Welsh called "Ecstacy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance" and the phrase just caught his eye. That's how we got the name My Chemical Romance. I was playing in a band called Pencey Prep at the time and we shared studio space with them so I would watch them practice everyday and go to all their shows. They got signed to the same label as Pencey Prep, Eyeball Records and then they decided they needed another guitarist. So I joined the band and two days later we went into the studio and recorded our first album called "I Brought You my Bullets You Brought me Your Love." Now we have an A&R guy, Craig Aaronson from Reprise Records looking to sign us and we're seriously considering it," I finished.
"Wow! That's really amazing. You guys are extremely talented and I have no doubt in my mind that you'll be successful and everyone will know the name My Chemical Romance," she said. The waiter came over to our table and took our drink orders. When he walked away, we started to look through the menu.
"So there's Gerard and Mikey Way, Ray Toro, and Matt Pelissier," she stated.
"Yup. Gerard's 26, Ray will be 26 in July, Matt's 24, Mikey will be 23 in September, and I'll be 22 in October."
"October what?" she asked.
"31st. I'm a Halloween baby. And you're April..."
"24th. April 24, 1986," she told me. The waiter came back with our drinks and we ordered our food. After taking down what we wanted, he took our menus and went back to the kitchen.
"Tell me about Krista, Katie, and Rachel," she inquired.
"Krista Blanchardi is 24 and has been dating Ray for about six months. As you know, she's a total sweetheart. Katie Jensen and Rachel Wells are both Mikey's age and the biggest snobby bitches you will ever meet. They're attached at the hip and don't like new people for whatever reason. That's OK though since no one except Gerard and Matt like them."
"I wonder why that is..." she pondered.
"Gerard just sort of ignores her. They've been together for three years and have a child so he doesn't wanna end things with her for that reason. Gerard is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, but Matt's a total asshole so he and Rachel go together like peanutbutter and jelly," I told her.
"Gerard and Katie have a kid?" she asked.
"Yeah. Her name is Olivia and she's two. She's so adorable. Looks just like Gerard and luckily got his personality as well."
"Aw that's so cute! Um... you don't think they'll bring that Michelle girl around on Friday do you?" she asked.
"They probably will cause they're assholes like that. Michelle is this grotesque excuse for a human being. She hangs all over me and tries to fuck me...it's pathetic," I told Jillian.
"Before you know it, she'll be president of your fan club!" Jillian said with mock enthusiasm which made me laugh.
"That will be the day I realize hell has frozen over." She giggled and sighed.
"So tell me about you, like about your life, your family... those deep dark secrets," she said.
"All right. Besides the band, I went to Catholic School and the only thing I got out of that was how to properly tie a tie. My parents divorced when I was four and I'm an only child. I grew up in Belleville, NJ... it's not a nice area with a lot of crime. My dad, uncle, and grandfather all play guitar so naturally I started playing. After I graduated high school, I went to Rutger's University on a scholarship, but I dropped out to persue the band full time. I've been in three serious relationships and about six or seven that didn't make it past a few months," I told her. "What about you?"
"I'm a junior in high school, born and raised in Manhasset. I have two older brothers Patrick and Matt, one younger brother Dave, and one younger sister Hannah. I don't really know my parents since they're rarely home. They go on vacation a lot or they send us on vacation so they don't have to deal with us too much. They're both entertainment lawyers. My siblings and I were basically raised by nannies. After I graduate, I plan on attending Hofstra University for Public Relations. I've only been in a few relationships, none lasting too long. High school boys are just way too immature," she said. So she's wealthy, but unhappy. She had a pretty messed up childhood and doesn't know her parents. I gave her a sympathetic smile as our food came and we began to eat, telling each other more about ourselves. Jillian is a very sweet girl and I really like her. I'm not one of those guys who likes to pick up girls for some ass and then drop them as if they were garbage. I want someone who's gonna stick around. After I paid the bill (Jillian fought with me because she wanted to pay half, but I being a perfect gentleman wouldn't let her) we decided to get some icecream at Tasti-D-Lite. Again I won the arguement of keeping her money in her wallet and soon we were walking around Central Park with our icecream.
"Have you ever been in love?" Jillian asked me.
"I'm not sure. I thought I was at the time, but now that I think back, I don't know if it was true love. Have you?" I asked.
"Nope. Always open to it though. It's pretty much number one on my list of things to do before I die."
"What do you think love is?"
"When you can't imagine your life without that person. When your heart aches when they're away and wants to explode with happiness when they're around."
"Jillian you know this isn't a one time thing for me. I really, really like you and I want to get to know you a lot better. I hope you don't think I'm looking for a one night stand," I said nervously.
"I know Frank. I really like you too and I want us to get closer. Trust me, I'm definately not looking for a one night stand... I'm a virgin," she said quietly with a blush. I smiled.
"Waiting to be in love?" I asked.
"Pretty much. I don't wanna just give it up to some random guy. I want it to be meaningful. I know it sounds cheesy," she said shyly. I shook my head.
"It's not cheesy at all. I'm not gonna criticize your morals. I respect them," I told her truthfully. "The man who loves you would wait forever if you told him to."
"It's one of the main reasons I don't stay in long term relationships. They just think that after a few weeks they're gonna get some," she said.
"Then tell them to go fuck themselves. If the guy really loved you, he wouldn't be pressuring you in the first place." She gave me a smile and we threw our empty icecream cups in a near by trash can.
"What time is it?" she asked me. I looked down at my watch. Wow it was really late.
"Almost 2:00. Did you have to be home at a certain time?" I asked. She shook her head.
"No, but I should get back before I miss the last train. Then I'd have to wait till about 5:30."
"OK. I have to catch a train home too," I said. We left the park and got on the subway which took us directly into Penn Station. When we got there, she purchased her LIRR ticket and I purchased my NJ Transit one. Her train didn't leave for another 15 minutes and mine didn't for another half hour, so I waited with her in the LIRR waiting room. As soon as we sat down, I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket. Who could be calling me at this hour? I pulled it out and saw it was Gerard.
"Hello?" I answered. The sound of screaming and crying met my ears.
"Hey Frank, I didn't wake you did I?" he half yelled.
"No I'm still in the city. My train leaves in a half hour. What's up? Everything OK?" I asked.
"Olivia's been screaming her head off ever since we got home, but Kat decided she's gonna go to bed and have me deal with it all by myself," he said angrily. Gerard is a great father and would do anything for Olivia. He's very involved in her life, but Katie could care less. "Anyway, the guy from Jack's called me and wants to know if we have a guest list. I just wanted to know if Jillian was coming," he said.
"Yeah she is."
"Good. She's an awesome girl."
"I know," I said, smiling at Jillian. "So what's wrong with Olivia?"
"Her two year old molars are coming in and they're killing her. She's been chewing on my fingers since the teething rings do go back that far."
"Put some rum or something on her gums to numb them," I suggested.
"I would, but Kat decided to drink the rest of the fucking bottle before calling it a night. Said it would help her sleep, fucking bitch. Oh well, call me tomorrow and let me know how your date went," he said supressing a yawn.
"I will. Good luck with Olivia."
"Thanks," he replied and we hung up.
"What's up?" Jillian asked me.
"Olivia's got molars coming in and they're hurting her so she's crying. Kat drank all the rum before she went to bed to leave Gerard to deal with it all. He doesn't mind taking care of her because he loves her and is a hands on father, but he'd like it if Kat did some parenting duties too. When Gerard is busy, he has his parents watch her because he knows she won't. It's disgusting," I said.
"Why did she even want a baby if she didn't want to take care of it?" she asked me.
"She wants Gerard tied to her for life so he'll never leave her. He was gonna break up with her until he found out she was pregnant with his child. Olivia makes him happy though," I said.
"Well that's good that he takes care of her," she said and I nodded. The track number for Jillian's train appeared on the board and we stood up.
"Get home safe. Can I call you tomorrow?" I asked.
"Of course. I'll talk to you tomorrow. You get home safe too," she said. I pulled her into a hug and sighed. She was so tiny in my arms. I loved it. She smelt so good too, like sweet fruit and cinnomon. We pulled away and I kissed her cheek.
"Good night," I said.
"Good night Frank," she said back. I watched her walk to her track and down the steps before heading over to the NJ Transit area to wait for my train. God, Jillian is amazing.
