Chapter 16:- Wings
**
A/N: I’ll like to thank Malehorntaildragon for his help.
**
Remus was waiting in his normal chair when Gabrielle stepped out of the fireplace. Soon some other form of travel would soon have to be arranged but for the moment this was still the best. As Gabrielle straightened up Remus was still taken by her looks but today he noticed a difference, today she wasn't carrying her bag this was odd as every lesson so far she had had it with her. Today she was just wearing jeans and t-shirt with a jacket over the top.
"No bag today?"
"No we won't need it."
"Got something special in mind?"
"Not really I just want to be prepared."
Remus studied the girl and saw her shake a little; she was normally very composed and always failed to show any emotion.
"You alright?"
"Just a bit worried about today."
"What are you going to do?" he questioned feeling a little concerned on Harry behalf.
"Open his eyes." She replied before walking out of the room.
**
Harry had been a little nervous all morning. He had started his cleaning and gardening early but it still had not placed Vernon in a good mood. As Harry watched the clock move towards 2 pm he started to place himself near the door. Whatever happened he wanted to be there.
At exactly 2 pm Harry saw the outline of a small person through the glass in the door; even as the door bell started to ring he had reached up and was pulling open the door.
"Harry!" exclaimed Gabrielle beaming a smile at him. He had never met her at the door before; it always had been his Aunt.
"Who's there?" bellowed a loud man in the background.
"A friend visiting Uncle." Harry called back over his shoulder. "You go out into the garden I'll best have a quick word with my Uncle." Harry whispered to Gabrielle.
Gabrielle nodded and glided lightly through the hall into the kitchen and then out the back. Harry walked into the front room to see Vernon struggling to rise from his soft chair.
"What friend boy?"
"Just a friend to help me with my study."
"What that redheaded boy?"
"Um...no."
"Who then? Not one of those whores! I'll not have you with a whore in this house!" roared Vernon.
Harry felt his anger immediately rise within him. How dare Vernon threat Ginny or Gabrielle. He had painstakingly followed Vernon's order, he had sat down with his and talked like adults but now he was abusing the only people that seemed to care about him. As his mind continued on like a runaway train his anger swelled and he suddenly felt his magic flow powerful forwards. This man was shouting at him about girls, didn't he know about Dudley and the girl down the street.
Every moment that Harry spent in the house was for the Dusley's good yet still Vernon wanted to abuse Harry and all the people he cared about. Harry's anger just kept building and for once he didn't care.
"They're not whores! They're my friends!" he shouted back his eyes flashing dangerously.
"I don't care, I'll not have my house turned into...into..." roared and equally enrage Vernon.
"Into what?" asked Harry realising that his hand had dropped to his side. The side his wand was at.
"Into a house of ill repute. I'll not have it. Those ... those tarts can't be here."
Harry's hand enclosed his wand as the word sank into him. How could he call Ginny and Gabrielle a tart? He had only seen them on one night but he was calling them names. He was insulting them, the girls that wanted only to help him.
Feeling his magic bust through his anger, he pulled his wand out of its pocket small sparks flying from the end which was glowing a dangerous colour. "I don't care what you call me or do to me, but don't you ever call MY Friends whores! Do that again Uncle, and I'll hex you till no one can sort you out! And I don't care what they'll do to me!"
"Now...now...look here boy." Stammered Vernon seeing the wand and feeling the venom in Harry's words.
"No I won't, you are standing there insulting my ..." but then Harry's mind stopped him. What was he just about to call the girls?
"I...I..." pleaded Vernon looking at the Wand pointing towards him.
Then Harry felt a second presence, like he was being watched but different. His anger seemed to drain away slowly at first them more rapidly. He magic was still full within him but his anger was going. Slowly he lowered his wand and turned his back. Inside of him he knew what had happened, he took one step towards the kitchen before stopping, looking over his shoulder at the still trembling Vernon he said.
"That so called whore may have just saved your life."
**
Harry walked out into the garden still shaking a little as he tried to release the stress and magic. He saw Gabrielle sitting under their tree with her eyes closed, instantly she opened her eyes and looked back at Harry.
Gabrielle sprang to her feet and ran towards Harry. He could see the tears streaming sown her face as she approached. He didn't stop, he didn't hesitant for a moment he just opened his arms and let the girl run into them.
"I'm so sorry Harry. I really am. I know I should have but you were so upset. I'm so sorry." Cried Gabrielle in Harry's arms.
As soon as his arms had encircled Gabrielle he felt his magic surge. It was as though it was searching out his entire body but it didn't stop. He felt every worry and concern drain away, but felt yet more, infinitely more. As the magic coursed through him he felt it leap and touch Gabrielle, sensations that weren't his started to flood back into him. He could feel anger, lust, hope, concern, need and fear all radiate towards him. As Gabrielle continued to cry he felt even more within himself come forward his magic was just expanding and behind it more was flooding out. As it approached its peak he could feel the warm breeze and smell the flowers in bloom. Never had he ever felt so alive and aware.
"It's alright I'm not angry." Soothed Harry raising his hand so that he could brush the lose hair covering Gabrielle face.
Gabrielle sniffed back the tears and looked up. She knew she had made a second mistake, one even worse.
"We have to separate." She said quietly.
"Why?" asked Harry as every feeling was washing through him. He never wanted to move again, whatever happened to him he no longer cared. He was where he wanted to be, forever.
"It's too soon. I didn't prepare myself; you have to let me go."
"But I'm happy; I'm where I want to be."
"No Harry it isn't you, it's me." Replied Gabrielle quietly.
"What?"
"You're feeling my and your emotions together you're confused." Replied Gabrielle in a slightly stronger voice.
"No I'm happy." Replied Harry.
"No Harry we have to separate...Now." commanded Gabrielle pushing on Harry's chest.
Harry let his arms open at the insistent voice of Gabrielle. As she took a step backwards he could almost see a blue glow surrounding them and then it faded. Like snapping fingers they were apart and Harry felt so lost. All the awareness and emotions instantly disappeared, his magic seemed to vanish. He once more felt alone.
"What..."
"Come ... come sit under the tree and I'll answer your questions."
Harry followed the girl trying to make sense of what had happened. Gabrielle waited for Harry to sit before she gracefully sank to the ground, close but not too close.
"What just happened?"
"I made two mistakes and I'm sorry." Replied Gabrielle quietly.
Harry looked at the girl and waited for more.
"I shouldn't have connected too you, but I felt you get upset. I couldn't let your anger rule you. I didn't want you to hurt Vernon. I'm sorry I said before that I wouldn't do it again."
"It's alright Gabrielle and thank you, he's never made me that angry before. I don't know what I would have done." Replied Harry reaching out a hand towards Gabrielle but she shied away from it.
"That's the other mistake. I shouldn't have touched you without preparing myself."
"Why?"
"You saw, you felt it. You felt everything both your and my emotions together and then our magic."
"It was magical."
"Yes but its dangerous, which is why you have to learn. You have to learn about yourself so that you can stop it."
"But I didn't want to."
"That's just it, you need to control it. It is the same as magic if you don't it will consume you and ultimately destroy you."
Harry took a couple of deep breath trying to steady himself. He could still feel the need to grab Gabrielle again but he was slowly driving it down.
"Do you feel like that all the time?" he asked.
"It comes and goes, at the moment I can handle it."
"How?"
"Practice, and now you should too."
Gabrielle watched as Harry closed his eyes and lay out fully. It had been a close thing a moment ago. A few seconds longer and she would have succumbed to the sensations. She knew that it might destroy her but she didn't care. They were Harry's words but it was her feelings and what she wanted. Fighting her emotions back to where they should be, she concentrated back on the lesson. It had been a poor start she just hopped that the end wouldn't be so explosive.
**
Greenburg looked over the notes and drawings he had made. It was going to be Monday, he knew that he would have to call in sick otherwise suspicions would be raised. He continued to look over the drawing that he had made of the place and wished he would have time to tackle the back but a little of him was thankful that it was only going to be the front.
This was going to be the first time in daylight that he was going out. Up to this point it had always been night, he had convinced himself that if he wanted to leave it would be easy but not after Monday. Looking over the flat he knew that he would have to leave it behind if anything went wrong. He wasn't attached to it at all, but it was a little piece of normality.
He picked up his wand and studied it. It had been a long time since he was last in that shop and he was about to make sure that no-one ever went in there again. Swallowing hard he got up and reached for a bottle. Without even getting a glass he drank half of it. The fiery liquid traced a path all the way down to his stomach.
As he raised the bottle again he stopped and looked at it. Revulsion tore through him as he realised what this simple job had turned him into. With a small flick of his wrist he sent the bottle spinning towards the fireplace. It hit the stone back and smashed depositing the flammable liquid into the fire. Instantly the fireplace flared brightly with a fierce intensity but almost as quickly it had gone.
He studied the receding flames and thought of his life. If it was going to end he wanted his life to be like that bottle, spectacular. Turning his back on the dieing flames he walked slowly to his bed to dream dreams of glory and death.
**
Remus looked up from his book. He was certain that he had felt something, not much but a something. Gabrielle had only just left for Harry's and he was settling himself down to read but he was certain he had felt something. He glanced at the glass of water on the small table and saw the faint ripples on the surface. Slowly getting to his feet he drew his wand and walked to the window.
Gently moving the curtain aside he looked out to see if he could see the cause of the ripple. He had suspected to see a band of Death Eater attacking the wards on Privet Drive and was already planning what he could do to stop them or at least slow them down.
He had spent virtually every minute waiting here at Mrs Figg's. Ever since he had been told about being Harry's guardian he had been here seeing if he could do anything to help Harry. Dumbledore had told him what he had to do for the Order and soon that would take him away from Harry, perhaps forever, but until that time he was going to stay right next to Harry.
As he looked along the length of Privet Drive and all he saw were two boys kicking a football between them. He looked at the pointless game and shook his head slightly at it but he was worried. Something had made the water ripple but whatever it was it wasn't out there now.
**
Grayback jumped the last few strides. His followers always let him make the kill if he wanted to and today he did. As his leapt finished he landed on the boy knocking him sideways onto the ground. Grayback could hear the boy's heart pounding and the laboured breathing. For the past hour the pack had been running the boy through the woods but he wasn't as strong as some they had chased.
The boy laid almost unmoving as exhaustion almost overcame him, it did not matter to the final result. Greyback dipped his head and clawing with his hands he felt the warm spray of blood coat his face. He clawed once more but knew that it was over, he felt the satisfaction run through him and the adrenalin flowed out.
Standing up he saw that his pack had arrived he studied each in turn and knew that he was still their leader. He had bitten each one of them and he had showed each one the simple pleasures that they could have with him. Looking down at his blood soaked clothes he licked the warm liquid from his hand.
"Good hunt." He called out. All around him nodded.
"He your's." he called out as he slowly walked away. He heard the snarling of about half a dozen of the pack fall on the dead boy. He knew that those that didn't move were still frightened by the scene and the others were the more experienced. Those experienced ones knew the best bit was over, the kill.
"Thomas... will he be missed?" he spoke to the trees knowing that the werewolf in question would be following him.
"No he was a runaway. You did say to stay clear of the town."
"Good...It was a good hunt, but..."
"Yes I know... it would have been better during the moon then we would be one more."
Grayback looked up at the hillside. The cave could not be seen. Many enchantments help but its natural position made sure.
"We will return here one day but for now we must move north."
"May I ask why?"
"Only he knows the reason he just commands it."
"We follow you not the Dark Lord." Quickly responded Thomas
"I know that but we must follow...for the moment." Grayback quickened his pace slightly moving away from his followers. He didn't fear the Dark Lord, all that he could bring is death and a long time ago he had conquered that particular fear. All of his pack knew that death would be their only release, if the Ministry found them that would be their reward.
He smiled slightly at the thought of his other master. His other master was in prison far away from interfering. He owed him almost everything and suspected that that debt would have to be paid soon. He had learnt too live for the moment and when he had paid that debt he would be free; free to run the pack how he wanted.
Walking through the illusion on the cave entrance he looked over his home. It was as comfortable as they could make it, leaving it behind was a risk but not much of one.
"We leave tomorrow pack everything." He called out as he walked into his own room. The canvas walls gave him some privacy from the rest but the silencing and other charms gave him more. He saw the fur covered bed in the centre and smiled to himself. He remembered the last time he had mated, she was a fine looking woman and now she was carrying another cub for the pack. She would be safe but he wanted more, after every hunt he had mated but not today. Today he had to leave.
**
Susan got up off the sofa and walked the small distance to her room. As she closed her door she heard her mother on the other side. Ever since she had come home her parents had not let her out of their sight. But that was nothing compared to the restrictions, she had not been allowed outside at all and she knew that the wards on the house had been strengthen.
She could not even open the window in her room anymore it was as though she was in a prison. She knew that her parents loved her but it was getting too much. The look her mother kept giving her whenever she mentioned Harry was also beginning to hurt. The second day back as soon as her father had gone to work her mother had cornered her about Harry.
"What do you know about him?"
"Apart from everything you read in the press he's a wonderful person, kind, generous and loyal. Last year he helped a lot of us with Defence Against the Dark Arts and didn't care who anyone was he just helped them all."
"But he's just a boy."
"In your eyes maybe, but he's was the one who came for me. He was the one that found me. Not you, not dad, not anybody from the Ministry but Harry, he's also the same age as me."
"We tried to find you dear." Cried he mother
"Yes but he succeeded." Replied a smug Susan.
Her mother glared at her at this statement.
"You said that you want to help him. What do you mean by that?"
"Simple I'll do anything that he wants me to do."
"You mean school work?" her mother tried to clarify.
"No ...anything." Replied Looking directly at he Mother.
Susan knew how this looked but didn't care. If it came to it and that was all she could do for Harry she would willingly give herself to him. If he hadn't come and found her she would have lost that and probably her life anyway.
Her mother looked at her for a long time before she continued.
"Why?"
"Amelia told me to." Lied Susan. She knew it was from her heart that she wanted to do anything for him.
"Amelia's been wrong before."
"But not this time."
"He could take advantage of you."
"He could have done that at anytime and I would have been pleased too, I would have loved it." Shouted Susan turning on her heels and running for her room. She could feel the start of tears running down her face. Why couldn't her Mother understand?
"Susan...Susan, you're too young." whispered her mother as Susan retreated away
Susan threw herself on her bed but refused to let the tears run. Why could they just let her go to Harry? She laid there for a long while before getting to her feet and sitting at her desk. Susan looked at the letter in front of her. She had been working on it for the past day mostly in secret. If her mother got hold of it she was certain that she would be watched even closer. Her only problem at the moment was trying to send it. The family owl wasn't exactly off limits but she suspected anything she sent would first be taken to her mother.
Slowly adding a little more to the bottom she let her mind wander over the problem of how she could help Harry.
**
Gabrielle looked at her watch and then back at Harry. The afternoon was almost over and with sadness she knew that she had to get him to see. It might mean the end of the lessons once he saw her, but she had to move the training on.
"Harry?"
"Mmmm..." came the reply.
"How do you feel?"
"No different, warm as though I'm lying in the sun."
"No how do you feel inside. How does your heart feel?"
Harry had never been asked this question during these exercises and had to think of the answer.
"Content." He replied.
"Ok keep hold of that feeling just remember that you are safe, content." She wanted to say loved but refrained from it.
Harry nodded.
"Ok open your eyes and see. Don't look with your eyes use your magic instead."
Gabrielle's instructions made no sense but it was the first time she had asked him to open his eyes. Slowly he opened his eyes, first the shed and then the house came into focus but he could see nothing different.
"What do you see Harry?"
"Um...the shed...the house."
"No Harry you're not using your magic, remember how you saw the ribbons do it again, now."
Harry remembered the evening and what he did. Slowly the picture changed the ribbons seemed to materialise out of thin air.
"I can see the ribbons there are four of them."
"Four? Are you sure?" quickly questioned Gabrielle, she had only expected their too be three.
"Yes there are four all going off in differing directions."
Harry continued to let his magic or whatever it was flow. He started to reach out and feel. More and more ribbons could be seen very faint but he could see them.
"I can see more ribbons now."
"Good, keep looking at the house and shed." Directed Gabrielle, she knew that if he was as strong as Dumbledore had feared he would see it in those two buildings.
Harry continued to look at the house and saw everything change in front of his eyes. It was almost like someone had taken his glasses off the house started to go blurry and out of focus, but the colours changed they seemed to get richer. As he continued to look he then saw an outline around the house. It seemed to stretch around the house, he tilted his head up and he saw that it wasn't an outline it was like a wall. He continued to follow the wall and saw that it was curving around the house towards them. He tried to turn to follow it but stop as Gabrielle told him not to move yet.
He continued to study this wall, it was transparent but the longer he looked at it the more in focus it became. Ripples of light seemed to play on its surface and they danced around with no pattern. He continued to stare at a particularly popular spot and saw the beginnings of letters or symbols. The longer he looked the more he could see it was clear that at certain points on the wall were runes or other such symbols.
"What do you see now?" asked Gabrielle, but she knew that he was now seeing the true world as he would always do. The look of wonder on Harry face was like nothing she had seen yet.
"I see a wall or come to think now a dome covering the house; it's got runes and symbols on it."
"Good...good now look at the shed."
Harry turned his focus to the shed. It was difficult to make out at first because it was not in focus. There was no wall or dome over it, it was just inside the one covering the house. He continued to look at the shed and saw a small white dot. It wasn't big or bright but it was stationary about the only colour that was.
"I see a small white dot, that's all."
"Ok then close you're eye for the moment and relax a little."
Harry closed his eye and let his mind relax from the onrush of information. Somewhere inside of him told him that Gabrielle was moving. He could hear nothing at all but he just knew it.
"Ok Harry I'm in front of you."
"I know." He replied absently
"Listen closely Harry, I...I..." yet she found that she couldn't say those words just yet "I'm your teacher and you're safe, remember you're safe." She said instead.
"Ok." Replied Harry a little suspiciously
"Open you eyes and look."
He opened them again. This time he was ready and everything went out of focus straight away. He didn't consider anything he just ran through his exercises before he truly looked in front of him.
He could see Gabrielle, he knew it was her but what he saw was different. She was sitting calmly in front of him. He could make out her face easily and felt the joy in his heart at the simple pureness of her face. But then he noticed the rest. She was surrounded by a small glow, it wasn't bright but it was there. But this glow silhouetted the difference, he saw wings. They were small but somehow in proportion to Gabrielle. They weren't in focus it was though they were an echo or something.
"You...you have wings." He stammered.
"You, you can see them?" Gabrielle asked in a small voice.
"Only just they are very faint." Relied Harry still looking at them.
"Harry bring your focus back to the here and now so that we can talk."
Harry watched the images begin to fade away. Gabrielle changed back to her normal self and dome disappeared and a quick glance at the shed also told him that it was back as well.
"What...what...?" he started to question not knowing where to start his heart beginning to match his racing mind.
"It's alright Harry ask your questions."
"You...you...have wings?"
"No."
"But I saw them!" blurted out Harry.
"No what you saw was an echo of my wings. If I was a full Veela you saw what would be there but as I'm not you saw an echo."
"But...but..." gabbled Harry still shocked at what he saw.
"Harry you have the power of Love. There are many things that you can do which most wizards can't even comprehend. Today I asked you to open your eyes so that you could see, see the real world."
"Real world?"
"Yes, sorry it sounds so melodramatic but what I mean is that you can see magic."
"See magic?"
"Yes you may have heard people say that love is blind. You have just proven to yourself that it is the exact opposite; with your power you can see anything that would be normally blind to you. The phrase should be Love is all seeing. "
"So I can see what is hidden."
"Yes, my wings are hidden. Although an echo is still present, physically they are not."
One of the passages from the book Gabrielle had given him to read suddenly sprang to his mind.
"It's the magic consortium?"
"No that's just old fashioned fancy, but the idea is close enough. You can see magic as it interacts with the world around you."
"So I could see you and your glow."
"Yes the glow is probably my magic."
"You don't know?" he asked a little surprised.
"No I can't see what you see. Only you can but I have heard of spells that wizards use to see these things."
"What spells?"
"Sometime ago Fleur was telling me about the work Gringott's do and she was talking about something similar to this. Spells that they use too show wards and enchantments.
Harry mind suddenly brought him back a conversation that he had with Bill. It was just before the Quidditch World Cup. It was the night before they were all due to leave most of the Weasley's had retired to the main room for the evening. The twins had gone to their room, obviously now they were experimenting. Percy had also left the family gathering returning to his room to finish his report.
The rest of the family had stayed together. Mrs Weasley was sitting in her chair supervising the knitting and listen to the wireless. Arthur looked more relaxed than Harry had seen for a long time and was sitting in his favourite chair reading the paper. For the beginning of the evening the rest were all joking and laughing with Charlie. He was telling them of the many stories that he had, Ginny had sat on the floor and been enthralled to here of the dragons and Harry could remember that he too had enjoyed hearing about the Short Nose which found a taste for coffee.
As Charlie's stories had finished everybody seemed to break apart. Hermione sitting one the ends of the settee had pulled open one of the school books and was reading away. Ron had convinced Charlie to give him a game of chess and the two of them were engrossed in what looked to be a particularly viscous game.
Both Harry and Bill were watching from their seats on the sofa but Harry remembered seeing Ginny who had fallen asleep. She was lying against the front of the sofa near his legs. As he looked down he could see her hair had fallen across her face and his legs. Her breathing was in shallow breaths and hardly moved a strand of hair. The way he legs were tucked closed made Harry think how cute she had looked.
Pulling his eyes away from looking at her he had asked Bill about his work. It was obvious that most of the family knew what Bill did for Gringott's and also some of how it was done as they seemed to pay no attention. The only other person that took note was Hermione because almost instantly she put her book down and started asking questions of her own.
"So you find treasure?" Asked Harry.
"Well...yes. Not me on my own, a team of us explore ruins and temples on the look out for interesting things."
"Such as?" Queried Hermione leaning closer.
"Well anything really. The bank pays us to find anything valuable and then they take a percentage of what we find, quite a large percentage actually. The rest goes to the host country or founder."
"Ron says its dangerous." said Harry.
"It is a bit but if you're good and take your time it's not too bad."
"So what do you do?"
"I'm the teams curse breaker it's my job to remove or bypass any protections that have been used to guard the place."
"How do you do that?" said Hermione stopping herself from reaching for a notebook.
"It's simpler to show. As I said I have to detect and remove any enchantments, my first task is then to determine what has been enchanted."
"That's impossible." Commented Hermione.
"Hermione you're bright but you still have a lot of school to go. No it's not impossible you use a modified revealing charm. This shows me what has changed."
Hermione looked at Bill with a sceptical face.
"Hermione you know the fundamental laws of magic?"
"Yes First law of magic, All ..."
"I don't need them recited but from them you know that all objects within the physical plan can be modified with magic."
"Yes that's the...."
But Bill held his hand up to stop Hermione from reciting the third law of magic.
"But what you don't know, as it's not until NEWT level, is that every magical interaction leaves a trace directly proportional to that action."
Harry was sitting between the pair and felt like a total outsider.
"Here I'll show you. Dad can you toss me one of your plugs for a moment." Called out Bill.
Arthur looked up and reached for one of his plugs. He always kept a few next to his chair so he could look at them when he had spare moment.
"So Hermione this plug is non-magical and it hasn't be touched by any magical interaction."
"But it's been brought inside your wards?"
"That won't affect it or this demonstration. So let me case the spell."
After a brief but complex wave of Bill's wand over the plug both he and Hermione looked at the plug and saw absolutely nothing.
"See nothing no glow just the plain plug. Next I'll transfigure it." Within a second the plug had now changed shape and was a perfect crystal glass.
Hermione quickly studied the glass and saw that it was perfect nothing about it told her that it has come from a transfiguration.
"Now I'll case the spell again."
This time both Harry and Hermione saw the cup glow with a faint blue sheen.
"See the blue seen tells me that it has been changed and I know from the pulse, colour etc that it has been transfigured. Ok I'll change it back to the original."
The crystal turned back into the plug.
"I'll do the same spell again and there we go we see a very faint white glow. This shows that it at sometime been altered with magic."
"So that's all you do?" asked Harry seeing a very easy job in front of him.
"Looks easy but I've been doing it for a few years now. Detecting the magic is hard but understanding the colours, pulses, etc is much more so. I've some mastery but it will take me years to understand it all."
Harry finished remembering that scene with Bill and Hermione and realised that he was seeing something very similar but on a much larger scale.
"You've heard of them too so as I said the glow is probably me."
"What about the shed?"
"Think it through Harry."
Harry let his mind put together the pieces it had been presented with.
"I saw Hedwig, she's magical and in the shed."
"Correct the white dot was Hedwig."
"Then the dome was ..." started Harry already knowing the answer.
"Yes the dome was?"
"The protective wards on the house."
"Yes." Replied Gabrielle wishing that she could have seen them herself.
Harry breathed deeply as he thought about all he had seen eventually he looked back at Gabrielle
"Wow."
"Yes Harry you can now begin to understand peoples fears in you. You can do more than most people dream of. I shall leave you now Harry."
"Ok." Absently replied Harry.
"See you on Tuesday?" asked Gabrielle with a touch of panic in her voice.
"Of course why not?"
"I thought that after..."
"After I saw your wings I would...abandon you? Your wings don't change who you are Gabrielle.
"Maybe too you but most would look at me very differently." Said Gabrielle her voice slightly breaking.
"Why?" asked Harry seeing the first trace of any emotion of Gabrielle's face.
"They would think that I'm an animal. Something to be used, to be traded between themselves."
Harry could see the tears beginning to form and felt his heart melt at the sight.
"Come here." He gently said.
"No!" replied Gabrielle shaking her head violently.
Harry opened his arms and pulled Gabrielle close. This time he was expecting it, he felt his magic surge as soon as they touched. It wasn't as powerful as before, Gabrielle must be holding some her emotions back this time. But Harry still felt that he was at the only place he ever wanted to be at.
"You are not an animal, your wings are a part of you but they aren't all of you. There much more to you than just that." Whispered Harry his magic and feelings still building.
Harry felt Gabrielle shudder slightly as the beginning of tears formed in her eyes. To give her some time and to try and steady himself from getting swept away with his own emotions he continued.
"I know a lot of people who are misunderstood. Remus Lupin, a friend of my parents and me. He's a werewolf but is one of the kindest persons that I know. Dobby a House elf, loyal to his house but just wants to do the right thing no matter if it hurts him. Hagrid a half giant, loves children and animals and won't stand to see either hurt. So you see your wings make no difference to me."
After a few moments the girl in Harry's arms stopped shuddering and was silent. He could feel his emotions and senses lessen as Gabrielle brought herself fully under control and withdrew from him. She started to pull away but Harry only lessened his grip slightly and so she looked up at him.
He didn't realise what he was doing until he was half way through the motion as he bend his head low and kissed Gabrielle gently on the forehead. As he pulled back he saw the beginning's of a smile on the girl a she rose to her feet
"Have a good Monday shopping, and I'll see you on Tuesday." said Harry.
"You too Harry." Replied Gabrielle turning to leave feeling like every fear she had had been washed away leaving behind only the wondrous memories of Harry and being in his arms.
