"Hold On"- The Starting Line
Her life was more than mine
Like a proud shooting star into the night
She crashed through the airways and ripped like a knife
It was a bad disease
Her searching was over, over
Hold on to the light that guides you
Hold on to the air that cools you
Hold on hold on to me
Her mind steadfast through time
Her family stood by trying hard not to cry
With patience and virtue kept strong through the night
She never fell to her knees
Her searching was over, over
Hold on to the light that guides you
Hold on to the air that cools you
Hold on hold on to me
Hold on to the light that guides you
Hold on to the air that cools you
Hold on hold on to me
And then my eyes stretched out
As I saw her hand slip away
Hold on to the light that guides you
Hold on to the air that cools you
Hold on hold on to me
Hold on to the light that guides you
Hold on to the air that cools you
Hold on hold on to me
Hold hold on to me
..Frank's POV..
The other truck had smashed into the driver's side of ours, making us flip over onto our hood and slide a few feet. My whole body ached and I knew things were broken. Blood was dripping from my forehead and down over my face. Our truck was crushed. I looked over at Jillian. She wasn't moving and her eyes were closed.
"Jilly baby. Hold on sweetie. I'm here, hold on," I whispered.
"OH MY GOD! IS THERE ANYONE HURT??" I heard a voice from right outside my window.
"Please.... help....." I pleaded in my loudest voice I could muster.
"SOMEONE CALL 911!" a woman screamed. A saw a man lean down next to my window.
"Are you OK?" he asked me. I shook my head. "It's OK son we've got help coming," he told me calmly.
"J-J-Jillian," I whispered and started to breathe heavily. I was going into shock.
"Relax. Everything will be all right," the man said, although he didn't look too sure. I heard sirens and then slipped into unconsciousness. When my eyes popped open, I was being pulled out of the car by two EMTs and being placed on a stretcher.
"Jilly... JILLIAN!" I yelled while they tried to hold me down since I was trying to get up and go to her.
"Sir please calm down. You're gonna be OK," one of the EMTs said to me.
"Where's Jilly? JILLIAN!!! JILLIAN!!!!" I screamed still trying to get out, but they strapped me down onto the stretcher, secured my neck and head, and put an oxygen mask over my nose and mouth.
"We're gonna take you to the hospital. You'll be fine," the other EMT told me as they put me into the back of the ambulence.
"I DON'T CARE WHERE'S JILLIAN! JILLY BABY!!! JILLY! JILLIAN!!!" I screamed through the mask, now in a full blown panic and also going deeper into shock.
"We're going to have to sedate him," one of the EMTs said to the other.
"JILLY!!!" I screamed one last time as I felt a needle being stuck in my arm.
"JILLY! Jilly.... J-J-Jilly... Don't leave me Jillian," I said as I slipped back into unconsciousness..........
"Holy crap he looks terrible," I heard a voice say, although I couldn't make out who it belonged to.
"The nurse said the sedative should be wearing off soon and he'll wake up," said another.
"At least he only has a few broken bones and needed a few stitches," said the first voice again. I slowly opened my eyes, letting them adjust to the bright white light. Over at the end of my bed were Mikey and Gerard, looking pale and worried. Mikey looked over at me and his eyes widend.
"Oh my God FRANK!" he yelled and walked over to my side.
"Bro we were scared shitless when your mom called us! She's getting some coffee now, she should be back in a minute or so," Gerard said. My throat was burning as I swallowed.
"Where's Jilly?" I croaked out. Their faces fell.
"She's in surgery. She has a lot of internal damage. It's not looking too good Frank. She's at high risk for infection," Mikey said softly. Tears welled up in my eyes and Gerard sat on the bed as they rolled down my cheeks.
"N-no... my Jilly. Not my Jilly," I cried. Everything was hurting me. I looked down and saw my left arm in a cast and my right ankle in one too. Gerard held my right hand.
"It's going to be OK Frank. Jillian is going to be fine. Just keep praying and think positive," he told me, his voice shaking slightly. I nodded, but my tears didn't stop. My mom walked through the door and burst into tears when she saw I was awake.
"FRANKIE!!! Oh thank GOD you're OK!!!" she sobbed as she hugged me. I tried to hug her back even though it was painful. She pulled back and looked at me.
"Jilly," I whispered.
"I just saw Krista and Ray. They're heading over to ICU. She just got out of surgery," my mom told me sadly.
"I wanna see her," I demanded.
"Not tonight Frankie. The doctor wants you to rest," my mother said.
"I DON'T CARE I WANNA SEE HER!" I yelled, making them all jump.
"Frank calm down. Mikey and I'll go see her and we'll tell you everything," Gerard said.
"NO! I WANNA SEE HER!" I yelled again. The doctor came in the room.
"Mr. Iero, I see you're awake," he said almost cheerfully as he looked over my stats on his clipboard.
"I wanna see Jillian," I said firmly to him.
"I'm afraid that's impossible tonight. We need you to rest," he said. I shook my head.
"No. You're going to let me see my fucking girlfriend or I'll do it myself," I said angrily making my self get up.
"FRANKIE!" my mother protested. The doctor sighed.
"All right, but only for fifteen minutes," he said giving in. Mikey and Gerard helped me into a wheel chair and they wheeled me down the hall and into ICU. Ray and Krista were at the desk over there and they ran over to me when they saw me. Krista was crying.
"Frank we were so scared!" she said as she hugged me.
"We're just about to go in and see Jillian," Ray said. I nodded and we all went into the third room. I broke down immediately when I saw her. She was still sleeping with tubed coming out of her mouth and things sticking out of her arms. She was hooked up to a bunch of machines and IVs.
"Shhhhh it's all right Frank, it's all right," my mother soothed, though she was crying as well. Gerard wheeled me over to the bed and I took one of her hands in mine.
"Baby please don't leave me. I need you here. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. Jilly please hold on. Hold on for me. Don't let go," I said as tears ran down my face. Behind me, my mom, Gerard, Mikey, Krista, and Ray were all crying. Then her siblings walked through the door looking flustered and out of breath. They looked at her, then at me, and then back at her before Hannah broke down crying, running to her sister, trying to hug her.
"Jill wake up!" she yelled as Matt pulled her off of Jillian and into a tight hug.
"Do you remember what happened Frank?" Dave asked quietly.
"Just that we got hit," I said.
"By a drunk driver," Pat said sadly. I stroked Jillian's hand before giving it a soft squeeze.
"Where are your parents?" I asked them.
"Who knows. We can't get in touch with them," Matt said bitterly. I nodded.
"Mr. Iero we really need you back in bed," a nurse said from the door.
"He'll be there in a second," Mikey said, sounding like he had a bad head cold. I pressed Jillian's hand to my lips and kissed it.
"Stay strong for me baby. Don't leave me. I love you Jillian," I whispered and Gerard wheeled me out of the room after I said goodnight to everyone. Once we were back in my room, he helped me into bed.
"Get some rest Frank. Everything will be better in the morning," he said. I tried to nod, but I was so tired that I fell asleep. The next morning, I woke up to a nurse taking the IV out of my arm.
"You're going home today," she said brightly when she saw I was awake.
"Jillian," I whispered.
"Yes, you can go see your girlfriend," she said and helped me into a wheelchair. She wheeled me down to ICU and into Jillian's room. Her siblings were still there, and Gerard and Mikey were there.
"Hey Frank," they said quietly. I smiled slightly as the nurse set me next to the bed. She gave me a sad smile before exiting the room. I took Jillian's hand in mine and looked at her. She still had all the tubes and machines hooked up to her.
"Do you guys... think you could give us a minute.... alone?" I asked them all.
"Of course," Pat said. They all left, leaving Jillian and I alone.
"Please wake up sweetie. I need you. I can't loose you. Open your eyes Jilly," I pleaded softly. I felt her hand twitch slightly in mine.
"Come on baby. Open up those incredibly beautiful eyes. Stay with me. Don't leave me," I said. Her fingers curled around my hand and she stirred. Slowly, her gray eyes opened and she looked at me. I smiled and started to cry.
"Everything's gonna be OK Jilly. You're gonna be fine," I said happily. She looked around the room and then back at me. She couldn't say anything since there was a tube down her throat. "GUYS! SHE'S AWAKE!" I called. They all came running back into the room.
"I'll get the doctor," Pat said and ran out again.
"Silly Jilly you're awake!" Mikey said, a tear rolling down his cheek.
"Thought we lost you there for a second kiddo," Gerard said softly and then smiled. Pat returned with the doctor at his heels.
"Everyone please clear out for a moment while I check and make sure everything is OK," he said.
"I'll be right back sweetie," I told her and let go of her hand. Gerard wheeled me out of the room and the rest of them followed.
"Thank God she's awake! I was so scared!" Hannah sobbed. Dave put a comforting hand on her shoulder, though he too was crying. We all were.
"Still no word from your parents?" I asked.
"Yeah. They said only to call them if she'll be all right or if she doesn't make it. I fucking hate them," Pat said angrily. Gerard and Mikey's eyes widend
"Are you fucking KIDDING me?" Gerard asked.
"They care more about their jobs then they do about us," Dave said sadly.
"Where are they?" Mikey asked.
"In LA on a business trip. God forbid they come home early and dad misses a day of golf or mom a day at the spa," Matt said with fake dramatization. The doctor came out of the room.
"How is she?" I asked.
"Everything is fine. She's going to make a full recovery. She has no infection from the surgery and she'll be able to go home tonight," he said happily. I smiled wide and we all went back into the room.
"Frankie," she whispered when she saw me, tears rolling down her cheeks. Gerard and Mikey helped me onto the bed and I leaned over her and kissed her forehead.
"Hey baby," I said and smiled. She cried even harder and wrapped her arms around me. I made sure to be very careful since she had two broken ribs. Her right knee also got messed up badly again and that's what she had to get surgery on. He held her as close as I could without hurting her and wiped her tears. She had a stitched up cut on her cheek bone that was bandaged up. I knew I had one too, but mine was right about my right eye.
"What happened?" she asked me.
"We were hit by a drunk driver. Everything is OK now though. We get to go home tonight," I said and she smiled.
"I love you Frankie," she said.
"I love you too Jillian," I said back. I sat back up and her siblings came over, each giving her hugs and thanking God that she was OK. Then Mikey and Gerard came over and my mom, Ray, Krista, and Matt walked into the room. When they saw Jillian was awake, they ran over and cried from happiness. Matt and Jillian never got along because of Rachel, but Matt would never want anything bad to happen to her.
"You OK Frank?" he asked me.
"Yeah. Now that she's awake I feel so much better," I said.
"We canceled the tour," Ray told me. I nodded. I wouldn't be better by that time and I wouldn't be able to play with a broken arm and ankle.
"You guys are still recording in October though, right?" Krista asked. She was crying and still hugging Jillian.
"Yeah," Matt replied.
"Oh, a Craig Aaronson heard about the accident. He said he's your A&R. He called this morning to make sure you're OK and said we're in his prayers," my mom said. I smiled. Craig was a really nice guy.
"I need to go call the parents," Pat said.
"Where are they?" Jillian asked.
"In LA on a business trip. They had to meet with a really important client today," he replied solomly. Jillian's smile faltered and she looked very upset.
"Oh...." she said softly. A few hours later, Jillian and I were cleared to go. We all decided to go back to her house and my mom and Matt were gonna go home.
"I'll see you tomorrow," she said and kissed my cheek before kissing Jillian's. The two of us were a sight. Both in wheelchairs and practically crippled. "Your father is coming over for dinner tomorrow night to see you and make sure you're doing OK. He really wants to meet Jillian as well," she said.
"OK mom we'll try and get out there," I said.
"We'll take you," Gerard offered.
"Thanks Gee," I said. He nodded. Jillian and I got wheeled over to Mikey's car and Mikey and Gerard helped Jillian into the car and then helped me. They put our wheelchairs in the trunk and got in the front. We drove back to Jillian's, following her siblings. Mikey parked the car next to mine since it was still here and they helped us out. We saw a brand new white Range Rover where her old one used to be parked and it had a big red bow on the hood. Pat was standing in front of it holding a card. He handed it to Jillian and she opened it. I read it over her shoulder.
Dear Jillian-
Here's a new car for you since the other was totaled. At least it wasn't your fault. And don't worry, we're already suing the bastard for everything he has.
-Mom and Dad-
She crumpled it up and threw it on the ground. Her face was filled with rage and tears were spilling down her face.
"FUCK THEM! I FUCKING HATE THEM SO MUCH! I KNOW THEY WANTED ME DEAD! THEY DON'T EVEN CARE!" she screamed, sobbing, trying to stand.
"Jilly! No!" I exclaimed. I tried to get up, but with no avail. She got to her feet and fell immediately, but Gerard caught her. He picked her up gently, making sure to becareful of her knee and ribs.
"Shhh calm down. You're gonna hurt yourself even worse," he said.
"I DON'T CARE! THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT!" she yelled. Pat ran to the front door and unlocked it. Gerard carried my screaming girlfriend into the house and Mikey wheeled me in while her siblings followed. Gerard sat her on the couch and kneeled in front of her.
"They don't love me!" she exclaimed. Gerard looked at her sympathetically. Mikey wheeled me over to her and helped me onto the couch next to her. I pulled her into my arms and held her close.
"Shhh it's OK baby," I said soothingly.
"They're my parents and they don't even love me! They buy my gifts constantly to try and buy their way out of messes they create! Why did they even HAVE me???" she asked.
"Sweetheart I think they do love you. They're just really bad at showing it and they don't know what to do. So they buy you gifts instead. They are going about this all wrong because you're they're daughter and they shoulda been on the first flight back here to be by your side, but they don't know any better and it sucks," I said. She sobbed even harder.
"Do you guys wanna stay here tonight?" Matt asked Gerard, Mikey, Ray and Krista.
"If it's all right. We don't wanna impose," Mikey said. Pat shook his head.
"Not at all. There's plenty of room," he said. They nodded.
"You guys can have any of the spare bedrooms," Dave said. "I'll show you where they are," he added. Gerard, Mikey, Ray, and Krista followed him up the stairs.
"I'm gonna go tell Maria to put some food on. Matt, Hannah, come on," Pat said and they followed him into the kitchen. I kissed the top of Jillian's head and she began to calm down.
"I'm s-sorry," she said softly and sniffled.
"Don't be baby. Everything is going to be OK. I'm just glad that you're fine and not still in that hospital bed with all those tubes sticking out of you. I was so scared I was gonna loose you," I said.
"I would never leave you Frankie," she said. I nodded and kissed her lips. Everything really was going to be all right.
