Chapter 29:- The Ministry
A/N:- Malehorntaildragon did his normal work on this chapter, thanks!
Ginny sat up and stretched as she let the morning light into her room. As she drove the sleep from her body she looked round and saw that the room was a mess. Most people would say that the room was neat and tidy but not her, not now. It was something she had noticed since Gabrielle had started staying in the same room. Previously she was like any normal teenage girl and had all things strewn about her room but now all that was different. Gabrielle never said anything she just kept doing her own thing. It was almost as though she was a compulsive tidier. Every time she packed or unpacked, got up, went to bed, she tidied away whatever was hers.
Looking round the room Ginny saw that last night that did not happen. She glanced over to Gabrielle's bed and saw that, as normal, the young girl was already up and reading. Ginny knew that it would be useless to try and get up before her and so never tried. Even yesterday with the excitement of her Birthday she still didn't get up before Gabrielle. Looking back at the articles of clothing and a few of her presents that littered the floor Ginny remembered her birthday.
It had been one of if not the best she had ever had she mused. It was probably due to the fact of her being with Harry but that did not matter. The morning had been just wonderful actually sitting with Harry at breakfast, teasing Hermione and her family about her and Harry had been the best. It wasn't as though it was serious she told herself and then she stopped. She was now fifteen she was now legally able to have sex. This sudden thought ran through her body and ended at the enviable places. She could have sex and she knew who she wanted. Almost instantly she felt something inside her that screamed, 'GO! DO IT NOW!'
She felt her legs rub together in sudden anticipation but she understood that even though she could it did not mean that she had to. It was like a glass breaking inside her, her feelings suddenly flowed away. Sex was a big step for her and even a bigger step for the one she wanted. He was barely comfortable kissing her in front of her family. She was determined to change that by the end of summer. She chased these thoughts away for the moment and continued thinking about her birthday. By silent agreement Gabrielle and Ginny had decided not to have any lessons that day and so for most of the day the teenagers had just "hung out". They sat talked, joked, listen to the wireless. The day had just flown day by but the evening had been something else.
As normal, a small party was held in the evening. Through the whole meal she had sat next to Harry and almost dared anyone to move her. The twins had arrived and soon became the centre of attention. It wasn't long before the meal had fast become a noisy and somewhat dangerous time as the twins tried to slip some of their products into the food. When Ron had turned into a giant chicken her mother had gone on the rampage and forbade them from doing anything else during the meal. The pair had looked crestfallen but she remembered the look that they had in their eyes which told her that there was more to come.
After the meal everybody had moved into the front room. Ginny was initially surprised by this as she had suspected to move into the drawing room. For most of the time it was fast becoming the room that they used in the evenings but when she thought about it her parents never looked comfortable in it. Understanding flowed into her as she realised that the drawing room was Harry's it was his room like this house. The only places that wasn't "his" were the kitchen and this front room. Everybody had spent so much time in these room over the last year it felt like they belonged to them all.
She had made certain that she sat next to Harry. She tried to squeeze Harry into one of the chairs so that she could sit on him but he didn't realise or the look her mother gave them had stopped him and so he had chosen the sofa. Everybody continued to talk and laugh she even spotted Gabrielle having a smile or two on her face. As the evening drew on, the twins had gotten up and started again. Instantly her mother and jumped in to get them to stop but the twins defended themselves by saying that they were just showing off their new product line. Molly was wary until they presented her with a small perfectly carved wooden ship. Everybody could see small figures moving about the ship and was curious as to what it was, but when Molly's eyes seemed to glaze over and she sat quietly down without another word, curiosity was replaced with awe.
"Daydream fantasy." The twins called out.
"Its part of the new Young Woman range we've created."
"We also found out it that it's perfect for distracting mothers." Chuckled Fred at the look on his mothers face.
Even Arthur laughed at this as he looked at his wife who was quietly sitting and looking at the boat.
"Is it safe?"
"Perfectly, that's one of the smaller models."
"In thirty minuets she'll be back after experiencing the best daydream."
"How did you..." started to question Hermione but the twin just ignored her obviously not giving up there secrets.
"They come in various sizes all the way up to three hours in length. We're having problems with anything longer but we'll get there."
That was the start to the twins showing off their products. For the rest of the evening everybody had smiled and laughed as product after product was shown to them. Ginny had the feeling that the twins were trying out their products on the family but it was having so much fun she didn't mind. The best moments for her had been when the twins had tried their "Instant Darkness" powder in the room. There had been no screams or shouts but there had been definitely some heated words as the darkness enveloped them all, but that had been nothing compared to the noise from her mother when they could all see again.
When it had gone dark she had the urge to do something with Harry who was still beside her but as he didn't react to her touch as she hoped she just waited and was glad that she did. The light returned in an instantly and was followed by the noise of her mother as she shouted.
"RONALD WEASLEY!" and everybody looked at him.
Obviously he or Hermione had very much the same idea with the lights out and were kissing each other. This would not have been too bad but during the darkness Ron's hand had found it's self a place to rest. A nice soft rounded place, it wasn't just resting on Hermione's chest it looked like to everybody that it was gently massaging and squeezing her breast. By the look and Hermione's face Ginny could tell that she had been enjoying it, probably too much. Ron's hand flew away at his mothers shout and his face instantly turned red but it didn't matter because it matched Hermione's perfectly. The twins took to wolf whistling but were instantly silenced by a look from their mother.
This looked on indiscretion by Ron did at least give Ginny the final thing that she wanted on her birthday. When it was time for them all to go to bed Molly had followed close to the heels of Ron and Hermione to make sure that nothing else happened, unfortunately for her it left Ginny alone with Harry for a few minutes. As they were all walking up the stairs Ginny gave Gabrielle a brief wave as she followed Harry down the corridor on his floor.
The pair stopped outside his room and looked at each other. Ginny could feel differing emotions running through her body as she studied Harry. She could see that he was tense and unsure and so she took the initiative. Without waiting she closed the distance and kissed Harry. The kiss was very much like the morning but this time she let it continue for far longer. She felt her body press against Harry's her breasts started to harden at the feel of Harry's hand on her back and his chest pressing against hers. Her tongue explored the whole of Harry's and was please to find that he was beginning to do the same.
She let her arms flow round his back and started to feel his back gently moving them upwards towards his head. Her fingers brushed the back of his neck and she felt a slight shiver run through him. As she broke apart from the kiss she stayed within his arms and looked at his face. She feared staying much longer but her body wanted to, she just wanted to push the door open and be pulled in by Harry. This was pure fantasy but looking deep into his eyes she found herself swept away with it.
A sudden noise on the stairs caused her to jump back and her heart to race even more. Harry's hands seemed to try and hide themselves trying to disguise what they had been doing. Ginny peered onto the stairs but saw nobody but the moment was broken. Seeing the panic on Harry's face she knew that she had pushed far enough tonight and so pouted once at the night.
"Good Night Harry." She purred.
Ginny saw Harry swallow very hard before replying.
"Um...night...Ginny." He managed to stammer out in reply.
"Thanks for the birthday presents."
"Wh...wh...."
"Hush Harry and just enjoy them like I did. Tomorrow should be even better." Said Ginny giving Harry a blown kiss before turning and dancing up the stairs.
Harry stood and watched Ginny leave. His heart was still racing but that was not all, that last kiss had caused another problem. One that was hard and pulsating and was contained in his trousers. As he stood there kissing Ginny he had felt like that their were two of him in his body. He had felt his magic respond and probe forward it wanted to intertwine with Ginny. It had taken more concentration than he thought possible to reign it in but as he did he noticed that his body was reacting. It was reacting to the moving girl, woman, in his arms. His body knew what it wanted to do and it was going to do it. He felt the reaction in his groin as the blood flowed to it the sensations that his hands were producing was not helping.
When Ginny broke apart his magic and body wanted to rush back to her yet he fought it away unsure what was happening and what he should be doing. As he brought everything back into control Ginny had turned to thank him. The look on her face was almost unknown to Harry, he wasn't certain that he knew what it was but it looked very much how Hermione was looking at Ron these days. His teenage mind instantly told him that the girl had something special or devious planed for tomorrow and it was going to involve more of what they had just been doing.
As he closed his bedroom door behind him he couldn't force the smile off of his face. He stood their breathing deeply trying to restore control to his rebellious body but finding that it was not helping. Walking to the bed he picked up a clean set of towels and decided that now was a good enough time to find out if a cold shower actually worked.
***
Ginny never registered the walk to her room. Her mind was still downstairs with Harry. As she closed the door a smile spread across her face as she lent back against it. She looked over to Gabrielle's bed afraid at what she might see but saw the girl lying on top of the duvet in her pyjamas looking directly back.
"Good?"
"You wouldn't believe."
"I would." Quietly replied Gabrielle dropping her face as she felt the emotions rolling of Ginny.
Ginny saw the look on Gabrielle's face and instantly felt the mood depart she had hurt her friend with he ideal comments and wanted to make it up to her. Crossing quickly to the bed she sat on it and lifted Gabrielle's face.
"I'm sorry."
"No...don't be."
"But I am sorry."
Ginny and Gabrielle looked into each others eyes as if sharing comfort before Gabrielle finally asked
"What was it like?"
Ginny thought for a moment and knew that there was only one way to describe it, it might be corny but it was right.
"Magical."
"Sounds dreamy."
"It was, we stood and looked at each other and then the next moment we were in each others arms. His hands were moving slowly up and down my back. I could feel his chest through mine, my hands started to roam around..."
"and...."
"I waited but nothing happened."
"What do you mean?"
"Every other boy I've kissed before would have let their hands roam around my whole body. I was waiting I was sure he was going to do it, but he didn't." replied Ginny suddenly feeling a little disappointed
"I...I...think he's scared."
"Can you feel it?" asking for confirmation on something she had suspected.
"Um...no it's just a feeling. I think he's scared of getting it wrong with you."
Ginny mused for a moment and then realised that Gabrielle was right. She had suspected but never thought about it in depth until now. The two of them sat in silence as they thought about Harry.
"Have you thought about what you are going to ask Harry to get you?" said Ginny turning her mind to the shopping trip the next day.
"I thought I'll ask him to help me get some of my school stuff there is so much to get but I'm not sure."
"Don't worry you can always use some of mine of needs be."
"Thanks, what about you?"
"I don't know yet, I'm just wondering about the new uniform and whether I can get any of it."
"Why don't you get Harry to buy you that?"
"School Uniforms! I don't think he would get anything so plain."
"Don't bet against it, I'm certain that between us we can convince him and I'm certain it's not going to be plain."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm certain that between the two of us we can show him a number of reasons and as it's only for year 3 and above there has to be something in it."
Ginny gazed at Gabrielle, it was almost as like she could read the younger girl's mind. She was certain that the younger girl had the same un-pure thoughts that were suddenly running through her.
The lateness of the hour suddenly overtook her as her mind continued to race through the possibilities of tomorrow. Getting up she crossed slowly to her bed stripping as she went the daydream continuing. She crawled into her bed and closed her eyes and let dreams of shopping with Harry take her into the next day knowing that the younger girl across the way was doing the same thing.
**
Susan walked slowly back to her room. So far she had hardly left it at all since getting back; it was her only of place of retreat from her parents. She had stopped slamming the door every time she entered but it did not change how she felt. She wanted to help Harry it was now her driving purpose yet she could not. Every thought every idea seemed to be stopped by either her mother or father she still wanted too. She had had a small glimmer of hope in her heart when she received her OWL results. Hope that if she had done well she would be allowed out but it didn't happen.
It wasn't that she did not receive good grades, in fact she had exceeded virtually everybody expectations having achieved 7 O's, 2 E's and 1 A. Her parents had been happy but they still kept her a virtual prisoner in the house for "her own safety".
She started to change in response to her mother's announcement that today they would get the school shopping done. She looked over at the Hogwarts letter that sat in the centre of her table. That letter and the calendar above the bed were her two sources of comfort. She had suspected that her parents would stop her from returning but it seemed that they were letting her go.
This sudden shopping trip would be good as it allowed her to get out but the small hope that she would see him or even somebody she knew was slim. The letters had only just come out and most people left it much later in August before they went but she held onto the thought that she might, just might be able to send her letter. Her heart lurched as she thought of that letter and she quickly jumped on her bed and moved the pillows a sudden fear that it had been found forming as she went.
As the last pillow was moved the two documents were sitting there looking back at her. The invitation to Harry's party and her letter to him had not moved. She sat back on her heels and picked them up, a small tear welled in her eye but did not start down her cheek. Still hugging the letters to her chest she climbed off her bed and finished dressing.
**
Molly felt a little worried as she left the house with everybody. Inside she thought that this trip was not safe. She had spoken at length to Dumbledore last night about it but he did not give her much hope. He just kept saying that it was now up to Harry. She had asked for the Order's help but was surprised when Dumbledore had said that he trusted her and Harry to look after everybody.
This stance by Dumbledore was in contrast to the previous years when Harry had been wrapped in Order members, but he no longer seemed that concerned about his safety in that way. She had spoken to Arthur about this but between them they could not see what the headmaster was up to.
But this was only one of the worries that was troubling Molly. For this trip it had been quickly decided that they would use the Muggle underground. She had used the system once before and found it very confusing she knew that Arthur just loved to play on it but rarely had the time, but she did concede that it would be the easiest way to get them all to Diagon Alley. Hermione had been insistent that it would be fine and that she had used it in the past and so now they were all standing waiting on a platform for a train to arrive.
As Molly looked over at her son she knew that this was the final worry, she had reacted instantly to what she saw last night but when she had spoken to it to Ron he almost defended his actions. She was not used to any of her children standing up to her and it shocked her. It also shocked her when she realised that he was right. The looks that the two of them were giving each other told her that they were planning more but as a mother could she condone it? Shaking her head slightly she vowed to give them a little more room but not so much that they could actually "do something silly".
The rattling sound and rushing wind announced the arrival of the train and everybody found themselves collected up by the push of people striving to get on. For nearly everyone this was about the best start to the day that they could hope for. Harry found himself sandwiched between Gabrielle in front, Ginny to the side and a man wearing a suit. He felt a little uncomfortable until Ginny clasped his hand and stretched up. As they were hidden from the rest she took the opportunity to give him a far longer kiss than normal.
They weren't exactly hidden from everybody, if they were looking both Ron and Hermione could see exactly what Ginny was doing to Harry but they were busy with themselves. Hermione was standing in Ron's arms as though being protected from the crowd. She had moved her arms around his waist and was kissing him exactly how her body wanted her to. As they parted she saw the smile on his lips.
"Did your mother give you a hard time?"
"A little."
"I didn't mind you know. I wanted it as much as you."
"You did?"
"Yes Ron you don't know how much."
Ron was confused at Hermione, she had been all prim and proper but now it sound like she was having the same thoughts that he was. Every bump and movement of the train told his body exactly how Hermione felt and it wanted to feel more, experience more with her. He didn't want to push but the ache she was creating was getting painful.
"What can we do?"
"Anything and everything we want to." replied Hermione.
She had a plan forming in her mind about today. She was prepared, very prepared, more so than what anybody would think. She had read the books, not openly but she knew what to do she thought, she had also taken the potion. It had been difficult for her to brew it in her room and was certain the Dobby had seen her but she had managed it in the first days of staying at Grimmauld place. The contraceptive potion wasn't exactly foolproof but it was the best she could do for the moment. Her body had been building and building for this moment and she was going to make it happen today. After last night she had taken hours to get to sleep as the hormones in her body rushed about after the brief stimulation afforded by Ron's hand. But seeing him this morning had only brought them all back. With luck and planning she knew that she would get some time alone with Ron today and she wanted to be ready for everything.
Hermione glanced up to station indicator and saw that they had only one stop to go. The train was still packed so she whispered.
"Kiss me again whilst we can."
Not needing another invitation Ron bent lower and opened his mouth. Their lips joined and Ron felt the sensations of Hermione's hands and lips as they played over him. She had never been like this with him but he was enjoying it so much so that soon his enjoyment would be obvious to all. Breathlessly they parted and he tasted a trace of Hermione's lipstick on his own lips. As the train emptied they followed the rush and saw around them the others. Harry was walking confidently but both Ginny and Gabrielle looked a little scared. He was scared himself but with Hermione walking next to him holding his hand he was sure that it was safe.
In a blur they all exited the station and blinked into the bright morning.
"Well let's get you to the Ministry Harry and then we'll all floo over to the Alley and start shopping. There is plenty of it to do." Announced Molly.
She looked round the group and saw the two couples holding hands and Gabrielle standing very close to Ginny and Harry. Everyone nodded and followed her as she made her way to the Ministry. She had been separated from everybody in the train and had felt a moment of panic at not seeing them. But she let this subside as the journey continued and she caught glimpses of their heads, but now all she wanted to do was get the day over she had a feeling that something was going to happen.
As the group walked Hermione manoeuvred her and Ron so that she was walking next to Harry.
"Harry would you mind if we went back home early."
"Um...Ginny was hoping for a bit of a day out."
"Oh not all of us just Ron and myself we don't want to get in the way."
Harry almost stopped walking as he looked at his best friends. His teenage mind told him exactly what it was thinking but looking at them he just couldn't imagine it.
"Of course I'm certain Dobby will let you in."
Hermione's face broke into a wide smile before she replied.
"Thanks Harry."
Harry looked at the back of Hermione and Ron as the pair increased their pace. Harry found that his eyes travelled down the back of Hermione and was looking at her bum. Instantly his eyes snapped up as he realised what he was doing. Hermione was his friend, a good friend but that was all and her wiggling bum had nothing to do with it. It was then he realised it was the first time that he could actually remember Hermione's bum wiggling, things were changing all around them.
They all reached the phone box and Harry was certain that they would never all fit inside but they did. As soon as they announced their purposes identity tags were dispensed and the box dropped through the floor. As they all fell out they saw that that the busy Ministry was in full flow. Witches, wizards, animals and creatures of various types were moving through the lobby. At regular interval a whooshes announced the arrival and departure of somebody or something else.
Harry couldn't remember having seen it so busy and noisy. Mrs Weasley looked around before she pointed off into the distance and started to head that way. Ron and Hermione quickly followed but before Harry took a step he felt his arm being capture by Gabrielle. Harry was still holding Ginny's hand with his other but Gabrielle had grasped Harry's whole arm and was clutching it tight to her. Through his arm he could feel the girl trembling and so bent low towards her and asked.
"You ok?"
"No...It's so big and full of people." Gabrielle whispered.
"It alright they're just Ministry workers."
"I can feel them its...its..." breathed Gabrielle shaking more and more.
Ginny suddenly saw the distress on Gabrielle and moved closer as well.
"It's fine really." Insisted Harry now a little concerned for Gabrielle.
Gabrielle still shook and as she looked into Harry's face. He could see tears forming in her eyes. Harry felt his heart lurch and wanted to comfort Gabrielle but what about Ginny?
Ginny bent closer as well before asking.
"Can you feel them all?"
Gabrielle just nodded but kept looking at Harry almost pleading with him.
Harry looked quickly at Ginny not knowing what to do with the upset girl. Previous he had acted on instinct but now was different.
"She scared Harry."
"It's alright Gabrielle you'll be fine." Harry quickly said but Gabrielle continued to look at Harry and clasp his arm to her.
"No Harry hug her use you magic its what she needs." Said Ginny letting go of his hand.
Instantly he found Gabrielle in his arms, her tiny arms around him and her head resting on his chest. She had closed her eyes yet Harry could still hear her breathing. He starched out his magic and found her at once. He didn't know what to do, the last time had been dangerous she had said but what else could he do. As he let his magic flow over her he was careful to keep it in check, he could almost sense the trouble that Gabrielle was in, in keeping her own shield solid.
The three stood there for only a few seconds yet that was all that was needed. As Gabrielle slowly let go of Harry she looked up into his face. His magic his comfort and that of Ginny was the strength that she needed, the emotions flowing in the room he overwhelmed her, never had she experienced it, but holding Harry and feeling his magic she understood where her focus should be. Rising on tip toes she gently kissed him on the lips. She did not expect any reaction from Harry and got none but she had kissed him none the less.
"Thank you Harry." She said and she finally released him yet still kept a very close hold on him arm. Without another word Harry felt Ginny hold his other hand and the three moved through the crowd to the reception desk.
"What kept you?" asked Ron getting slightly worried as he spied Harry walking towards them. No one failed to notice that Gabrielle was clinging to Harry's arm but Ginny was still smiling and so was Harry.
"It's just a bit busy." Replied Harry not wanting to blame Gabrielle.
"Well here you go Harry." Said Molly indicating the reception desk. Ginny let go but Gabrielle refused to so, he slowly walked up to the desk with her still holding onto his arm.
"Um...I have an appointment with the Minister."
"Which one?" Asked the board receptionist without looking down.
"Rufus Scrimgore Minister for Magic."
"Oh? and just who are you then?"
"I'm Harry Potter."
The receptionist almost fell of his chair at this. His eyes immediately locked onto Harry face. He realised that he had just been rude to Harry Potter, The Chosen One.
"Oh Mr Potter I'm so sorry, please wait a moment." Gushed the man as he quickly checked his lists and indeed did find the name. With a small wave of his wand he alerted the Minister's Office.
"Someone will be down very shortly, sir."
"Thank you." Replied Harry tuning away and walking back to the group.
"Someone's on the way." He announced
"Very well Harry. We'll just wait and then go shopping, we can use the floo and start from the Cauldron. Once you're done wait for us in the Cauldron I'll tell Tom to look out for you."
Harry smiled but his insides were churning slightly at the thought of this meeting. He would have wanted Remus with him but he knew he was still busy with the Order.
"Mr Potter, sir?" Said a strong voice of a tall man wearing a set of well tailored robes.
"Um yes." Replied Harry
"I'm James Newman I work on the Minister's staff he asked me to bring you right up."
"Very well."
Harry looked at his friends before speaking.
"Bye."
Gabrielle knew that she could not stay with Harry any longer and just hoped that they would be leaving soon. She let go of his arm and felt the loss of his magic almost at once. The feelings and emotions started to attack her again and she started to shake but felt Ginny next to her. Without thinking she held her hand instead and found that the noise did lesson a little. With small smiles the two girls looked at the disappearing form of Harry as he was swallowed into the throng of people behind the security desks.
**
Susan walked out of the bookshop very glumly, they had purchased the books that she was going to use next year. As she had looked through the information that the school had sent she tried to imagine what lessons that Harry would take. She knew that he wasn't always with Hermione and so if she managed to choose the right subjects then in those ones she might be able to help him in and be close to him, but that thought would never come about not with her mother around.
Even though the choice was hers to make her parents had already decided. It had been decided in fact a long time ago, every time something like this came up the lessons that would give her a greater ability in the Ministry were chosen. She looked through the information but knew that her parents had already chosen for her and so now as she left the bookshop with her new books she could look forward to new lessons involving the Ministry and Law. It wasn't as thought she would not enjoy those lessons it was that she had wanted to make her own choice.
The shopping for her had turned exactly how she had thought it would. As they walk or almost marched up the street Susan failed to see anybody she knew, there were a few Hogwarts students around but that was all. She had hoped to find at least somebody to pass her letter on yet as the morning was moving on her hope was slowly fading.
Everything about the day was going wrong, it had started when he mother had seen what she had changed into to go shopping. The short summer skirt and top had to be replaced with a pair of sensible trousers before they had even left. Susan was glad that she had put on only a small amount of make-up she was sure her mother would have got her to remove that. When they arrived at the Allay they did not go to Gringotts as most people did they just started shopping, it was then obvious that the day had already been planed and she was just required to walk along with her mother.
When they had walked into Madam Malkins she had fell instantly in love with the new uniform. It looked good and she knew it would look sexy as well if she wanted it to but her mother huffed at it once and did not even contemplate buying one for her. So she was parcelled up with a couple of sets of new trousers and blouses and then was walked out. Potent Potion Supplies and the standard set of ingredients were bought nothing else and nothing within that she knew that could be classed as dangerous.
They then walked past the Owl Emporium and Susan looked wistfully at the Owls in the window, if she owned one of them at least she could write to Harry but the walked on. Quills and Things was next she was a little surprised that she was allowed to rummage a little but, there was really only had stationary that was unlikly to excite her. With yet another package of supplies they left and headed to the book shop. Susan managed to have a look around as her mother conversed with one of the assistants to get the required books. She saw a number of students from Hogwarts but no-one she knew, all she needed was one small piece of luck but it looked like it was not going to come as this was going to be the last shop.
They left the shop and started to walk the distance back to Cauldron, Susan was frantically thinking of a way that she could hold her mother up so that she would have more time. She had thought about asking to go into Weasley's Wizarding Weases but suspected her mother would not allow that one. Her last hope was the Cauldron itself she might just be able to manufacture something there, a small voice in her head was telling her to run. If she ran she would be found but she would at least get the time to send her letter.
As this final and drastic solution seemed the only action that she could take the small piece of luck appeared at the end of the Alley. They weren't loud, they weren't causing a scene yet to Susan they stood out like a Giant at a Goblin party. Walking down the street was Ginny and her family. She could see both Ron and Hermione with her, as well as her mother and that young girl Gabrielle, the one she meet at the hospital. Hope flooded her heart as her eyes raced around the group seeking the black hair of the one that she was after but she did not find it. Yet she knew that this was the answer to her evening prayers.
As they drew closer Susan saw recognition dawn on Ginny face and with a smile Ginny broke into a run and closed the distance.
"Susan it's good to see you again, you ok?" asked Ginny after a brief embrace.
Susan could almost feel her mother's hostility beside her and so quickly answered.
"Yes thanks, I'm fine now and you?"
"Oh the best." Replied Ginny dreamily.
Susan's mother huffed once but was stopped from doing anything more when Mrs Weasley greeted her.
"Ah Mrs Bones it good to see you again....." started Molly in what Susan hopped was going to be a long conversation.
Susan quickly dived inside her top for the letter that she had been carrying and pulled it out.
"Do you know where Harry is?" whispered Susan.
"Why yes he's at the Ministry right now."
"Can you get this to him, please?"
"Why, what is it?"
"Just a letter but my mum won't let me send it."
Ginny seemed a little surprised at this but took the letter anyway. Susan felt the immense relief as she saw Ginny slowly take the letter. She didn't fully know Ginny but she did at least trust her. Her mind calmed down and she though about what Ginny had said.
"You said Harry was at the Ministry why? Is he in trouble?"
Ginny looked round and wondered if she should tell Susan anything. She knew that Susan had a bond with Harry but didn't know what it was like, was it going to be the same as hers and Gabrielle's. Susan had always been quiet at the DA meetings but she had been a member and so therefore trustworthy, something about the way she was being asked tugged at Ginny. It was though Susan was concerned for Harry being at the Ministry and if Susan was concerned shouldn't she be? The news about Harry was going to come out in the papers tomorrow anyway.
"Well he's seeing the Minister for Magic about a press statement and..." but she could not finish. She suddenly remembered hearing Susan talking to Harry in the hospital about helping him. Would she get upset if she heard about the Minister?
"Press statement why?"
"I...I...don't think."
"Please Ginny I might be able to help."
"He's been made head of house early and The Minister wants to help Harry with that and..."
"Wait." Hissed Susan her mind suddenly flowing. She knew how the Ministry worked and this was suddenly causing alarm bells.
"Head of House...The Potter house?"
"Well yes it's because of..."
"House Black I know I saw a report on them."
"What report?"
"A Ministry one, and fairly new one about the disolvement but Harry isn't of age yet?"
"Dumbledore got him to sign some papers."
"What papers?"
"I...I...don't know, why all the questions?"
Susan glanced at her mother and knew that she had almost not time left.
"Please Ginny is he of age, legal wise?"
"Yes."
Susan's mind fitted the information quickly together, a rocky Ministry and Chosen now able to Vote. The Wizagomrt in awe at Harry, him not able use it but the Minister would...?
"Ginny I think you should stop him, can you?"
"What?"
"I think the Minister is using him. Harry is powerful and not just magical I think the Minister is trying to use him you have to stop him."
"What do you mean?"
Susan quickly grasped Ginny arm harder than she meant to.
"He needs advice and not from the Minister. Please believe me this is not going to be in Harry's interest. It's the only thing I know, the Ministry, please stop him." Pleaded Susan knowing that this might be the only chance she got to ever help him.
"Come Susan we must be going." Said her mother before anything else could be said. Susan looked at Ginny pleading with her eyes that she would understand or at least trust her. She was literally dragged away from the group and down the alley yet her mind just kept thinking about Harry and the Ministry, and what had they planned for him.
Ginny watched as Susan was pulled away and looked over at Hermione. She could see the older girl and her brother both thinking hard but what could she do.
"Do you believe her?" Ginny asked eventually.
"I thought it was strange." Replied Hermione still thinking the problem through.
"We should at least tell him."
Hermione looked and Ron and saw in his eyes that he had come to the same conclusion, looking back and Ginny they both nodded. Without pausing for breath she turned to her mother.
"We have to go back and talk to Harry."
"Why dear?" inquired Molly who had not heard what Susan had been saying.
"We think the Ministry is using him, we have to tell him."
"What makes you think that?"
"Susan told us."
"Susan but what does she know."
"Exactly how the Ministry works?" suddenly replied Hermione seeing that Susan may indeed be right.
Molly looked round the group and saw that they were all insistent, knowing that they were going to get virtually nothing done she nodded and then had to nearly chase after them as they all bolted towards the Cauldron.
**
Harry waited a few minuets in the outer room in front of the Ministers office. He could see many of the paintings on the wall closely looking at him as well as the secretary behind the desk. He suddenly felt that he should have worn something smarter than what he currently was as everyone around looked to be immaculate.
The trip to this office had been quick and done in virtual silence. James had whisked him to the security desk where he had his wand weighed and a second badge given to him before they entered a lift. Harry was surprised to find that there were no other occupants in the lift all the previous times that he was here during the day it always seemed crowded.
The lift whisked the pair to the top floor directly to this office. The secretary immediately stood and greeted him then offered him a seat after that she sent a small message through the closed door to inform the Minister that he was here and then they all waited. No-one said anything and the silence was very unnerving to Harry, fortunately the wait was not long as the inner door opened and out walked a man.
He looked rather like an old lion to Harry's eyes. Tawny hair and yellowish eyes that stuck behind wire rimmed glasses did little to fool Harry. This man may look a little past it but he was still a force to be reckoned with.
"Ah Harry. It's good to see you. Sorry to keep you waiting but my meeting is over running if you will just give me a few more minutes it I should be done and then you will have my undivided attention."
"Of....of course Minister." Replied Harry confused at being addressed so informally by the Ministry.
"Good...good." Replied Scrimgeour before turning to the woman. "Brenda make sure that the 11 o'clock has been cancelled I don't want anything to disturb us." And without waiting for a reply he headed back into the office closing the door behind him.
Harry saw that Brenda sent off another memo into the air before she got up and crossed to him. Harry's mouth went a little dry as he remembered the last time a woman had greeted him but Brenda just smiled and asked if he would like refreshment. Harry politely declined and sat back a little to wait, as he did so he looked round the room again and saw that the man who had escorted him up from downstairs was nowhere to be seen, obviously he had left when the Minister had shown himself.
Not knowing what else to do Harry closed his eyes and let his magic flow. It felt so easy to him to do this and it helped relax his mind he was beginning to do it a lot now. He did not want to open his eyes fearing at what he might see but the temptation was there. Slowly he did so, first he looked at the woman and saw that she had a faint white glow similar to that of Hedwig's, there was no intensity to it just a small glow. His eyes swept the room and he saw many different symbols adorning the walls now. He knew these to be wards or some other spellwork but exactly what they were was still a mystery.
As his eyes continued their sweep he came across a number of paintings but something was odd about three of them. Most of them were normal paintings he could see some faint colour traces on them except for three of them. These three seemed to radiate much stronger and a different colour to the rest. As he peered at one the figure within looked straight back at Harry and then almost ran from the frame. Harry was jogged out of his state when the door opened again to the inner office and a balding man came walking out carrying a large bundle of papers. He did not even look at Harry as he left all he did was mutter to himself.
A few moments later Scrimgeour walked out as well and this time Harry could see a slight limp in his step. He handed some notes to the woman before turning and smiling at Harry.
"Well now that's all over with please come in."
Harry rose and followed the man into the office as he passed the door it closed automatically behind him. The office was furnished almost how Harry would have imagined it. The far wall behind the desk was almost one large window. Through it Harry could see most of the skyline of London. He idly wondered how high up they were or was it using some form of magic. In front of this was a huge mahogany desk inlayed with leather. Harry had never seen a desk like it but it looked right in this plush room. Scrimgeour indicated one of the chairs to Harry and so he sat.
"Well I was not expecting this meeting so soon, but sooner the better right? It is good to see you here anyway Harry. I can call you Harry?"
"Yes sir." replied Harry.
"Good...good as I said I wish to help. I know last year that the Ministry or some reactionary parts of it were not the most helpful."
"Helpful..."
"Please let me finish. I have changed that now, I understand that you are in a difficult position but I would like to offer you help Harry. Between the two of us, Me the Ministry, and you the Chosen One we have to work together."
"Chosen One?"
"You are the Chosen are you not? Was it not foretold in the prophecy that you will defeat this evil?"
"What prophecy?" replied Harry not liking this sudden questioning.
"Why the one you defended last year. We have records here and know of it, did it not foretell how He Who Must Not Be Named will be destroyed."
"Well I don't know sir it broke."
"It, it broke?"
"Yes in the fight, it broke and was destroyed."
Scrimgeour sat back suddenly and placed his hands together. Harry could see the thoughts rushing across the man's face. Was the invitation of help just a rouse to allow the Minster to find out the contents of the prophecy?
"Never mind Harry. It was a shame but never mind it can't be helped. So as I was saying we need to work together."
"Why? I've stopped him before."
"Yes but we need to defeat him. If we work together we can do that. That's why I want to help you; I don't just want to stop him I want him gone, forever."
"So do I." whispered Harry not realising he had spoken out loud.
"Well our records show that you have been made the formal head of the Potter house a year early."
"Yes Professor Dumbledore..."
"Ah...It was Albus's work. Now I see, what else did he do?"
"Nothing sir."
"Oh....good. I would like to help you with this change in your life. You have now become a full member of the Wizagarot and I would like to help you. Just today there is business before that body and it would be prudent if I showed you around and helped you along. Afterwards or maybe before hand we can get a few members of the press together and inform them of your new role."
"New role?"
"Yes you becoming Head of House."
"But I just want to be..."
"I know Harry but unfortunately you can't, people will want to know they will find out. Best tell them now to get it over with. Come on I'll show you round a little first." Said Scrimgeour rising for his seat and indicated the door which had magically opened again.
They walked out and straight into the lift which started to magically descend as soon as they entered. Harry had little time to dwell on what was happening as the doors opened and they walked out into the corridor.
"Ah my old department." Said Rufus as he pushed open a large door which had a plack denoting Auror Department.
"The Auror Department, the Ministry's front line for defeating evil." Said Rufus as the stopped in the centre of a large office.
Harry looked round and saw many desks all littered with paper. There weren't many people in the large office but those he did see looked to be young and fit.
"Minister." Called a man almost running from a private office near the back."
"Bertie...nice to see you."
"What brings you here?"
"Oh I'm just showing Harry Potter round."
"Harry Potter." Breathed the man.
"Harry this is Bertie he's now head of the Department. I hear that you want to be an Auror."
"I...um...."
"These always room for Harry Potter isn't there...Bertie?"
"Of course sir." Replied the man quickly
Rufus turned to look Harry face on.
"In fact Harry if you wanted to start Auror training right now it could be arranged."
"But school... my results?"
"Nonsense Harry that doesn't matter you could start right away. I know that the next class is starting in two weeks, what do you say?"
"Um...but my friends."
"Oh I forgot doesn't you friend Ronald We...what was it."
"Weasley?"
"Oh that's it Ronald Weasley wants to be an Auror as well. Don't worry I'm certain he could join with you, friend together what?"
Harry was starting to feel more and more uneasy at what was happening. The Minister was offering him what he wanted, but not just him Ron as well.
"Think about it Harry as we continue on round. I'll get the papers made up in any case and all you have to do is sign. So on to the next place."
Harry followed obediently knowing that something was happening but not understanding exactly what. It seemed to move so fast, that he barely had time to dwell on what was being said.
***
Ginny was feeling more and more agitated as they waited for somebody to escort them to Harry. As soon as they had arrived Gabrielle had once again clung to her but this time it was almost like she could feel it as well. As they all waited each looked around with the hope of spotting someone that they knew but no-one came.
"I'm Sorry Mrs Weasley but you aren't on the list so you can be shown up."
"List...what list."
"The guest list for the press conference." Replied the bored receptionist.
Ginny looked at Hermione with panic in her eyes. Susan had been right, the Minster was up to something and they couldn't stop it. Mrs Weasley looked round at the children but was at a loss at what to do.
"How about Mr Weasley?" said Hermione
"Well I'll give it a try."
This time she asked to see Arthur. The receptionist wasn't fully convinced but she sent the memo anyway. The group waited for some sign of response but Ginny and Gabrielle were getting more and more agitated, they were feeling excluded from Harry and at a time when he probably needed them.
Almost out of thin air Arthur appeared next to them.
"Molly what are you doing here?" asked Arthur after giving his wife a quick kiss.
"Harry's with the Minister and we need to talk to him but they won't let us in."
"They are not on the list sir!" said the receptionist defending what she had done.
"It's alright I'll take them through."
"But sir they..."
"Are visiting me, right?"
"Yes Daddy!" instantly replied Ginny seeing her chance.
"But...but...."
"Come now." Called Arthur as he led them to the security desks.
It was not long before they were all crammed into the lift which was slowly ascending. None of them said anything as it travelled but Ginny could feel Gabrielle's grip lesson as they got closer to their destination.
The group almost fell out into the plush waiting room and walked up to the secretary.
"We would like to see Harry Potter." said Arthur in his most official voice.
"I'm sorry he's in conference with the Minister and can not be disturbed."
"But we're his friends!" said Hermione and Ginny together.
"Yes I know Ms Granger, Ms Weasley but they can not be disturbed."
Ginny looked at her farther for help but he shook his head.
"We can't just barge in there."
Ginny looked at Gabrielle as a sudden thought hit her.
"Do you think we can send him a message?"
"No I don't think so. I've ready stories that it's possible but I can not yet see how."
"How about if we just...you know."
"With our magic?" whispered Gabrielle.
"Yes wouldn't Harry come out if he knew we were out here?"
"I don't know but it's worth a try."
Both the girls quickly closed their eyes and tried to let their magic flow. Gabrielle felt that there was some impedance in the room something was stopping them or at the very least slowing their ability down. Normally she could flow through her link directly to Harry but this was hard. She felt Ginny beside her and they were moving but it was very slow going.
After what seemed far too long she could feel Harry's magic, his shield was strong but they did what they had done before, the moved over it touched it in the hope that he would recognise who it was.
**
"So Harry now you have looked round have you made up your mind?"
"About what?"
"Being an Auror silly."
"Oh ah...I think I should finish...."
"Nonsense the fight is more important isn't it? Getting rid of Him is for the best."
"Well yes..."
"Good, good. So think about it, being trained will give you a much better chance."
"But..."
Rufus could see that Harry was still undecided. He had hoped that he might have sawed the boy by now. Having Harry enrolled in the Auror school would have be good kudos for him and would have allowed him to wield more power. The man who brought the Chosen One to the Ministry would be a very powerful title to some.
"Alright then think about it some more. But now to a little business I need a hand with, as I mention the Wizagarot is sitting today and I think it would be best of you attended."
"But I had plans..."
"It won't take long I promise just a few minuets actually I think. See this is what we are discussing."
Rufus quickly laid before Harry a large document the text was small and deliberately hard to read.
"The temporary suspension of law's 16 and 24 to help aid in the fight..." started to read Harry.
"We really don't have the time Harry. If you just sign the bottom it would allow us to get the session started much quicker. Then we can get that damn press conference over with."
Harry felt trapped, for the whole trip around the Ministry the Minister had been nice. He had been offered all sorts as he walked, access to the Ministry Library, use of the research that had been done. Private apparition training and testing, seats to the next Chudley Cannons game with the Minister. It was thought the Ministry was trying to make up for everything that they had done last year yet he felt uneasy about it all, there was something more happening and he just couldn't put a finger on it.
He closed his eyes for a moment to calm his racing mind. What should he do? As he relaxed slightly he felt a small touch on his shield. He had been keeping it strengthen and was wary as he walked, he knew that there were Death Eaters around and didn't want to give them a free shot, but now alone with the Minister he felt something. His eyes snapped open and looked at Scrimgeour, was he trying to probe his mind?
The man was just sitting behind his desk sipping the coffee he had ordered for himself. Harry's eyes washed over him looking for the telltale signs that he was doing magic but found none, yet the pressure was still there. It was light but persistent yet did not seem to be forceful it was gentle.
He closed his eyes as realisation flowed into him. He had felt this before he was certain, the presence was hard to feel through his shield but he was getting more and more certain of what it was. Slowly cautiously he let the shield fall, the presence did not rush in to attack his mind it stayed outside, he focused his magic on it and felt emotions. Fear, worry, concern all transmitted to him and he then knew who it was, or should he say who they were.
His eyes opened once more as he brought his shield back up, Gabrielle and Ginny were worried and not about themselves but about him. So far he had only been able to detect them across a room so they could not be in Diagon Alley, which must mean they were outside.
"Minister I think my friends are outside."
"What?"
"I think my friends are outside waiting for me."
"I...I don't think so Harry."
"Could you check please?" insisted Harry pushing the paper away.
Rufus threw some powder into a small metal dish on his desk. The powder instantly ignited with a green flame and the face of the secretary was instantly displayed.
"Brenda Mr Potter thinks that his friends are waiting for him."
"Wel...um...they are sir but I said you were in a conference."
Rufus looked up at Harry and felt a little piece of fear form within him. He knew that this room was one of if not the most protected within the Ministry. As head of The Auror department he had personally placed many of the wards and charms on the door and walls. Nothing magical could penetrate this room he was certain it was as private as anything could be yet Harry had known his friends were waiting.
He wasn't fooled Harry did not guess on a chance he had known, but how? There was more to Harry then the reports had so far uncovered.
"You had better show them in."
He had wanted, no needed Harry to sign that paper today but it looked like that was going to fail.
As soon as the door opened the family group almost burst in, most of them stopped a little way inside awed at the sight of the office but not Gabrielle and Ginny. Gabrielle had let go of Ginny and almost ran to grab Harry by the arm. Ginny like wise grabbed Harry's other hand.
"Come on Harry you kept us waiting enough. Haven't you finished yet?" said Ginny trying to pull Harry up. She could see the question on his face that did not hide the slight traces of annoyance as well.
"I've..."
"You've been here so long." Insisted Ginny.
"Yeah mate come on lets go." Called Ron who was indicating the door with his head.
Harry slowly got to his feet and looked at the Ministry.
"Minister I'm sorry I can't stay. It looks like I've been here long enough I will think about the training but should be going. Thank you for seeing me." Said Harry trying to sound dignified.
"But...but...the press?"
"I don't think I need to tell them anything. I'm sure that they will find out everything without me anyway. I do thank you but I really do need time to think on everything you said today." Answered Harry turning and leaving a speechless Minister for Magic behind.
They all got into the lift before anything was said.
"What are you doing here?"
"We met Susan and I...." gushed Ginny
"What?"
"I told her what you were doing, I'm sorry but I thought she would know anyway tomorrow. But she said that they were using you. She said she only wants to help, that you should think before doing anything there! She begged us to get you out of there before you did anything."
"It was like he was trying to make up for last year, yet."
"Yet?" asked Gabrielle still holding onto Harry.
"At the end I don't know I thought I was being used but I still don't know how, everything was moving so fast."
"It told you so!"
"I know Hermione it's just I don't want it to be like last year."
"Do you really think it's going to that bad?"
"I could be." Replied Harry quietly.
Ginny raised herself up slightly and gave Harry a brief kiss on his cheek.
"Don't think about it, let's just go shopping and have fun." Said Ginny quietly batting her eyelids.
Previously Harry would not have imagined that shopping could be fun but the looks that Ginny was giving him sent a wave of something through him. He had a lot to thank both Ginny and Gabrielle for and no matter how much it cost he was going to make sure that they as well as Ron and Hermione would have everything that they needed, and if he was lucky enough to convince them, a few things they wanted.
**
