The next morning, Inuyasha awoke to find the branches didn't create much of a shield from the cruel days light. The sun shone brightly in his eyes and he almost fell from the tree in which he had lain that night. He knew today was going to... for lack of any better words... suck. He also knew that if he wasn't careful something else similar to last night could happen. Only this time... Inuyasha stop fucking thinking that way! He scolded himself at the thought of he and Kagome ... even though it was a nice thought; he knew he couldn't do that. It would ruin everything Inuyasha. Why are you even thinking something so...perverse...you aren't Miroku. Man I need to stop talking to that fuckin monk. The camp below had been cleared earlier from the looks of things, where was everyone? Inuyasha wondered. He leapt from the tree landing on the dirt packed ground with a soft thump. He surveyed the area to see if anyone was even out there before heading to the huts.
Inside Kaede's hut, he found Miroku, Sango, and Kagome sitting around a burning pot of something with Lady Kaede, Shippou and Kirara. Miroku was the first to notice him standing near the entrance.
"Inuyasha, won't you join us?" He looked up at Inuyasha from the bowl of something in his lap to acknowledge the dog demon's presence. Inuyasha felt a slight growl form in the back of his throat as he stepped into the hut and found his spot near the monk. Kagome looked at him through her bangs that swept across her blushed pale face. She looked semi-embarrassed, but she reached over to the little pot in the center of them all and scraped some slop into a bowl, passing it to Inuyasha.
"Keh . . ." he uttered and then looked down at the slop that she had given. "What the fuck is this shit? It looks like.../vomit/!" He made a face as he continued to stare down at the mush in the bowl.
"Kagome says its called...oak...oak/mean/? Piped Shippou with question in his voice.
"Oatmeal Shippou. It's called oatmeal...and it is not vomit Inuyasha. It's good for you, it will give you energy and keep you going through the day!" Kagome cheerfully informed him.
"Energy eh...? Well, then I guess it couldn't harm any..." Inuyasha scooped some of the oatmeal up and sniffed it. It didn't smell too bad. He lifted the thing that Kagome had branded 'spoon' to his mouth and closed his eyes as he shoved it in. It doesn't taste half bad either... he thought, and much to his surprise. It wasn't chewy, more like...soup, only thicker. Energy... Inuyasha thought. That is just what I need. Inuyasha practically in/haled/ the rest of the oatmeal in his bowl before asking for more. Just as he was about to wolf down a second helping, the ground started to shake.
Kagome grabbed for Shippou just as the oatmeal pot tipped and spilled all over where the young kitsune had been sitting. Inuyasha put his hand to his hilt, expecting to pull the Tetsusaiga any minute and fight. He stormed out of the hut towards the source of the shake, only to find Naraku's baboon puppet standing in the center of the village.
"Naraku!" Inuyasha growled pulling the Tetsusaiga from its hilt. The puppet said not a word; it just stayed positioned where it was.
"What, no message from you Naraku? You fucking bastard ..." Inuyasha was about to call upon his wind scar to be rid of the bothersome puppet when suddenly, it began to speak...
"When the moon is full I will attack. You will not be able to hide dear Inuyasha; no escape..." then came the words that Inuyasha feared from Naraku. "I know your secret Inuyasha. And tonight will be your demise. I will finally have in my possession the sacred shard of the four souls...I will be all-powerful, you stand not a chance.../and /your precious reincarnate priestess will be imprisoned to help me find the others in which I cannot."
"You fucking bastard! I'LL KILL YOU BEFORE YOU EVER LAY A FINGER ON HER!" Inuyasha was now fuming at the mere thought of Kagome having to spend an eternity helping him/...at the thought of him taking over her mind, Kagome trapped within his grasp forever... until... the shard is complete ...until he.../kills her. Inuyasha lifted his massive sword to eliminate the puppet that stood menacing before them. In a matter of seconds the baboon was nothing but a piece of broken wood on the dusted ground.
"Secret? Inuyasha you don't think he meant..."
"I think that is exactly what that fucker meant! How the hell did he know about my transformation night?" Inuyasha put the Tetsusaiga into the hilt as he paced back in forth in a fury. Kagome could tell he was scared...though he never showed it sometimes it seemed apparent to her.
"Well Inuyasha, what are we going to do?" Miroku questioned.
"WE?" he grunted.
"I think maybe finding somewhere to safely hide them would be of the wiser for the night. Don't you agree my dear Sango...?" Miroku moved closer to her ... hand creeping. Sango moved away and pulled her Hiraikotsu down slightly to warn him of what she would do to him if he tried it. Miroku blushed and cowered back.
"Why the fuck would she agree with you, you lecherou--"
"Actually Inuyasha...I do agree with Miroku. Perhaps it would be best if we kept you and Kagome out of his grasp for the night. Miroku you and I could take care of any demons he would bring our way...Shippou and Kirara too." Miroku suddenly seemed to be hiding a smirk as he agreed with Sango's reasoning's about the situation at hand. Inuyasha crossed his arms and let out a knowing grunt aimed to Miroku.
"And how the hell were you planning on doing that monk? Where could you possibly hide Kagome and I from that bastard Naraku? You really think he wont get to us if he has the opportunity? You honestly think that fuck wont find us and /kill /the both of us?" Inuyasha seemed a bit more nervous about this than Miroku had originally guessed he would. He turned from them, eyes on the dirt, arms crossed as if to seem angry and irritated.
"Inuyasha," Kagome sounded a bit scrambled about everything that was happening...he could hear it in her voice. "Maybe it wouldn't hurt if we did so. Your youkai wont be able to protect us, so maybe ... we would be safer if we hid out." Inuyasha looked up from the ground at the sound of her voice, and slightly peeked over his shoulder. He caught her eye and turned to face her. She looked terrified. Inuyasha sighed and unfolded his arms letting them drop to his sides.
"Oh...alright I suppose we could..." He muttered. "But where the fuck were you planning to hide us at?" They all looked at each other with a gawk of displacement on their faces. Suddenly, Sango had a thought. Her face shot up from the spot on the ground in which it had been staring.
"MIROKU! What about... /you know/..." Miroku looked blankly at her. After a moment, his eyes lit up wildly.
"Yes Sango that is perfect! Inuyasha, Kagome, there a place, that we know of where you will be safe, and it is not that far from here either." Sango blushed at Miroku's glare as he spoke.
"Well monk, are you going to lead the way or what?" Inuyasha was getting irritated, it wouldn't be long before his Youkai disappeared, he knew he had to move; he had to be able to protect her. Naraku, you wont touch her. Inuyasha thought as they walked along a broken path of rocks and sand.
"What's with those two Inuyasha?" Kagome asked as they trailed behind the two.
"Fuck if I know. Sango looks awful embarrassed though." Inuyasha looked at Kagome but she turned away suddenly at his glance, flushed. Inuyasha simply curved his attention back towards Sango and Miroku and where they were going. He wondered what Kagome was thinking about. Lately she seemed to be a bit nervous around him, it seemed odd to Inuyasha, seeing her act so...so uncomfortable around him. Lost in thought, Inuyasha neglected to realize that they had stopped. He glanced towards Kagome again who was looking at the sky. She looked worried, and for good reason too, it was getting dark ... his youkai would vanish in a mere matter of hours. He started to panic inside, thoughts racing. Shit Inuyasha, if that bastard gets to you ... to her, that's the end. In an attempt to hide his fear and disgruntlement Inuyasha did the only thing he could think of.
"Eh Miroku! We almost there? I don't know if you noticed or not but...its getting dark." He tried to calm his voice but alas it did not work. "Why the fuck have we stopped?"
"Don't be alarmed Inuyasha, and don't overreact but... there is a demonic aura surrounding the area..." Miroku stepped back a bit towards Kagome and Inuyasha as Sango grasped the handle on the top of her Hiraikotsu. If there was going to be a battle, Inuyasha wouldn't have the ability to fight for long.
"The cave is ahead just a bit more..." Sango was looking around, and even with Inuyasha's small amount of aptitude he could sense it too. "If we could get you there then that would be half the battle, hopefully that demonic aura is nothing and we can avoid it until you are safe." She continued to lead the way with Miroku at her side. Kagome was miserably quieter than Inuyasha had ever seen her before. They were all on edge. What was so threatening about this Inuyasha? He pondered. He never follows through, why are you so... worried? Inuyasha shook his head to be rid of the pesky thoughts. There was a rustling in the brush just behind Inuyasha and he looked up snapping out of his mindset.
"Huhmn? What was that?" Inuyasha turned only to see nothing but the brush and the sunset. Something was wrong, he sensed it before, and Kirara was acting peculiarly out of it, he was almost positive something with a strong youkai scent was following them... a demon. Sango must have picked up on Kirara's agitation again because her hand was once again gripping the handle atop her Hiraikotsu and she was walking as if she were being extra cautious. Then suddenly Miroku lurched forward, throwing himself on to Sango. It took a moment for Inuyasha and Kagome to realize what had happened, but not too long. Inuyasha pulled the Tetsusaiga and leveled it to the ground pointed at the predator.
Miroku held Sango in his arms.
"Sango! Please tell me you are alright!" Miroku pleaded with a new kind of fear in his voice. She stirred and held her head as Miroku helped her up.
"I'm fine Miroku but why did you..." she trailed off as she looked up to see a two headed slippery serpent-like black demon towering.../hovering/ over them. It didn't seem all that threatening, but regardless. Inuyasha ducked back as it rushed towards him in a half-assed attack.
"What the fuck was that! Is that all ya got? Kagome, is there a shard?" He kept his Tetsusaiga aimed at the demon as he looked over his shoulder at Kagome.
"No, there is nothing." She answered.
"Then why the fuck is it attacking us?" The demon lunged at Inuyasha again seemingly trying to get at Kagome. Inuyasha grabbed her and pulled her back ... out of the way. "Shit, this one wont let up what the fuck are we going to do? I can't get a clear aim with the Tetsusaiga."
"Inuyasha, Kagome, stay back!" Sango cried out as Miroku mounted Kirara. The fire cat demon took to flight. Miroku and Sango took over the battle as the days light diminished further.
"Sango! Distract it!" Miroku pulled a sutra from his Kimono.
"Hiraikotsu!" Sango yelled as she aimed her oversized boomerang at the slimy two-headed beast. Her attack was thus countered by powers that no one expected this slime to possess, sending the Hiraikotsu back at a very stunned Sango.
It emitted knives.
Everything happened so fast after that moment. Kagome shot a single arrow towards the demon as Kirara brought Miroku behind it. With the sutra he pulled at hand, he laid it between the necks of the demon's two-heads. Kagome's arrow found its way into the creature's chest... the disgusting fiend was as good as gone. But before it met its demise, it discharged a few more of its razor-like knives. Aimed to Kagome. She stood there frozen ... unable to move. As if on instinct, Inuyasha dove, pushing Kagome out of harms way. Two of the three knives that the demon discharged, hit Inuyasha. The third snagged itself on Kagome's shirt, ripping it. She fell from the force and landed in rocks and dust.
"Fuck!" He screamed rolling onto his side. "Kagome! Are you hurt?" She stumbled over to him ripping the sleeve of her shirt off to stop his chest from bleeding.
"Inuyasha you stupid dog-demon! Why would you do that, you aren't as strong as you think! You are going to be human come dark! What is wrong with you?!" She was crying, Inuyasha just glared at her, happy that she was okay other than her tattered and torn clothing. He just grinned and closed his eyes. He transformed as the night fell into its entirety, just before passing out. Mostly from the pain.
