Even with scrying in England they couldn't gather a port key across the atlantic and then apperate that quickly enough. Portkey do take time and the longer the travel the longer the ride Awaiting more.

Nice cliffie and I'll be waiting to see how matters turn out. I'll be especially interested in how these minions of Tom's found Xander and company. Somehow, though, I doubt they're going to be anywhere near as successful as they expect to be; likely with some terminal problems though I do hope they get interrogated "rigorously" first.
