by InuKag 1 review

Inu/Kag .... Mirok/Sang .... Things don't always go the way you plan them too... and sometimes... people aren't what they seem. If they aren't too careful, feelings could get inthe way of victory.

Kagome awoke first, much to her own surprise, to see Inuyasha sprawled out on the flat beside her. She smiled noticing that he still had his arm around her. The sight of him alone made her temporarily forget all about the shock of her own state, as she sat up from her sleep Inuyasha twitched. She watched his eyes slowly open to make contact with hers.

"Morning you." Kagome cheerfully whispered to him. He smiled at her mood and reached his hands around her waist, kissing her stomach he looked up at her. Kagome reached her hands through his hair to his ears and smiled back.

"Glad to see you have cheered up... hey Kagome, you know..." he paused and let out a sigh kissing her stomach again as she reached down to kiss his forehead.

"What Inuyasha?" She asked with a tone of curiosity in her voice. He looked back up at her and rubbed her stomach with one of his nails.

"I could get used to this." He stated to her. His amber eyes seemed to sparkle and she saw a glimmer that she never had before, it made her grin wider as she closed her eyes and let a breath escape her exhausted body. Inuyasha had grown very quiet, clinging to her almost protectively now. She could sense that there was something wrong and she opened her eyes to gaze upon Inuyasha.

"What is it Inuyasha?" She posed, her smile slightly falling at the worried stare that had come to cross his look. He sighed and sat up grabbing her hands in his own.

"Kagome, um... this could possibly be a disaster if we aren't careful. There are too many people that want to see me ..." his eyes blurred and he looked down his voice reducing to almost nothing "us ... dead." She tried to catch his gaze again as she brought her hands to his face.
"I swear that it is going to be okay Inuyasha, I don't know how, but somehow... I know that it will be." She pressed her lips hard against his and wrapped her arms around him, just holding him close to her was enough reassurance even if she was unsure herself of how much truth there was in her own answer. Inuyasha hugged her small figure close. He was still worried, she could tell but he seemed to have a different kind of calm about him.

"Don't swear that Kagome..." He whispered into her ear. "Please don't swear something that could possibly make me think that ... that for a moment. Because what if something /does /happen Kagome?" He pushed her body and held her shoulders, staring in her eyes. "I love you too much to risk it; I cannot let you continue on with this search." She gasped loudly; her hand flinging to cover her mouth and her eyes filled with tears. He simply looked away.

"What am I supposed to do Inuyasha? Just sit around and become open prey for all the enemies? Defenseless? NO... I won't. I don't care what you think I should do." She roughly pulled away from his arms and walked to the door frame of the hut, a bit surprised at what he had said. He stood, seeming a bit annoyed but more worried than ever. What are you thinking Inuyasha? He thought to himself, he knew she was too damn stubborn to ever listen to him.

"What..." His start was a bit rocky but he had to know. "What ... did you think I was going to say Kagome? I don't want that bastard getting to you and..." He looked down at her abdomen. Kagome looked to his face with a look of confusion and frustration that he couldn't place. It was different.

"Inuyasha..." she started softly trying to ward off the quiver from her tears, and walking over to him, she placed her delicate hand on his crossed arms. "Inuyasha, I am safer with you around to protect me... you know that, and you also know that I would never listen." She laughed and her eyes lit up as he looked at her face, his own was stricken with a worry so deep that it pierced his soul. He took hold of his lover's hands and sighed deeply.

"I suppose you are right but, you have to promise me that you wont be as careless as you always are... this isn't just for your safety anymore it's for our son or daughter too. Please." He pleaded dropping to his knees and holding her stomach at his ear. She laughed and pulled him back up.

"I promise Inuyasha, I will be a bit more cautious now." Inuyasha kissed her once more and looked out the small window of the hut.

"Hmph, seems to be getting a tad bit lighter outside, perhaps we should go and rescue Sango from her lecher Ehy Kagome?" Kagome let out a very knowing giggle before informing him that he needn't worry about the two of them.

"She's a big girl Inuyasha, trust me... she can handle herself... but perhaps, some breakfast is in order?" Inuyasha's stomach growled at the mention of food and he nodded indefinitely coaxing her outside.

"I'll make us a fire, you make the ramen." He rushed to get started; Kagome simply laughed both inwardly and outwardly, Oh Inuyasha, you and that damn ramen. She let out a sigh and continued her work. Wondering how Sango's night went, and where they were. As if on cue, a very pleasant mood Miroku sat down beside her.

"Hello lady Kagome! Anything I can help ya with on this beautiful fine day we are having?" He was so cheerful that she couldn't help but cock her brow at him and let out a small smug laugh.

"Well Miroku, we are certainly in a good mood this morning... I take it that making up with Sango went very well did it not?" She smiled at him with a very suggestive idea in her head, oh Sango. She thought quietly to herself. Miroku simply let out a sigh and smiled joyously. He needn't say anymore.

"My night was perfect Kagome, but ... I never kiss and tell." He got up and started to walk back to the hut whence he came. There was playfulness in his gait that she couldn't help but notice. It made her smile. As Miroku disappeared from sight, Inuyasha set the bucket of water that she needed beside her and giving her a little peck on her temple, he walked away once more.

"Goin' to get some firewood Kagome, I'll take Shippou with mm...kay?" Kagome nodded and smiled at him, Shippou made his way towards Inuyasha as he went off to collect wood, he happily waved at her and went on to annoy Inuyasha. That Shippou! /She thought, always trying to start an argument with Inuyasha./ The thought of his name alone lit her soul, and she walked over to examine the water that he had brought to her, pouring some of it into bowls to prepare for the flame. Everyone was gone. She found herself alone and the wooded area had gotten very quiet... almost too quiet. She could sense the presence of someone... she knew she could, it wasn't a familiar stance at all. For some reason she was getting antsy, worried... perhaps even a bit scared. It was so sudden, only a moment ago she felt completely normal. Now ... she could sense something off, and it was making her nervous.

"Hello?" She called out to the seemingly empty bushes behind her. She was trying not to get upset or panicked...When she got no response, she turned to finish her chore before Inuyasha and the other's decided to make an appearance. It was when her back was turned that her uninvited presence jumped at the opportunity.

Inside the hut Miroku rejoined Sango as she was dressing herself for the day. He came up behind her and playfully rubbed at her neck with his curled fist and brushed his lips over her ear, her cheek.

"Morning my dear Sango." He whispered lightly to her. She thought she would melt inside. But just as she turned to kiss the wonderful lips of the not so holy Houshi, they were both taken aback by a shrill sound of a woman's scream.

It was Kagome's scream... it took both of them a second to realize that it indeed had been Kagome screaming. Running out of the hut, they came upon only the empty spot in which Kagome had just been. A moment later, Inuyasha and Shippou ran to meet Miroku and Sango. Inuyasha, debilitated with fear, looked over to where she had been and noticed it sticking out from beneath the tall Sakura tree.

It was a note.

````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
The note was written in an old type of scripture kanji. Miroku grasped it from Inuyasha's hand and read what he could make out aloud to the group.
Inuyasha
It is with great pride I announce my presence into your pathetic existence. I thought that taking the young Miko that you seem to hold so dear would be the perfect start. You do not yet know me, but you surely will you pathetic Hanyou... Just to be forewarned.... Naraku is no longer your biggest worry. Your dear Miko will be of great use to me in my own quest for the rest of the Shikon no tama and with her in tow, I will finally be in possession of the sacred jewel. There is nothing you can do to stop me... but I would find it quite fun if you tried.
Haisurah
Inuyasha was silent. Haisurah? Who the hell was that? He couldn't help but fear for Kagome's life. What if something happened to her? To the baby... he stood full of apprehension and worry from the thoughts that filled his mind. Miroku picked up on it immediately.
"Inuyasha, I'm sure that both Kagome and your child will be fine..." He put his hand to the hanyou's shoulder and hung his head. Inuyasha spun around slowly as if in a state of shock and looked sharply, not non-temperamental at him. Causing Miroku to look up from the spot in which he had found in the dirt.
"How... how did you know that Kagome was..." Miroku looked down again towards Sango's feet, and Inuyasha diverted his eyes to her. She sympathetically looked at him with tears in her eyes. She spoke up in almost a whisper.
"I told him. Inuyasha I'm sorry, it kind of slipped but... it was just a shock, I thought that I ... that I was pregnant." She looked down and tried to hold back her tears, trying to keep her legs from caving beneath her. "Oh Kami..." she sobbed as she buried her face within Miroku's shoulder. "We need to find her before..." she stopped and surrendered to Miroku's arms wrapping around her. Inuyasha turned away, clenching the sheath of the Tetsusaiga and letting out a growl. It was clear what he had to do. I have to find her... now, He thought to himself.
"I have to go now... either you come with... or I go alone. Either way I am leaving now." He seemed to have already made up his mind about looking for her on his own. Sango's tears stopped and she looked up at Miroku through clouded eyes, worried. Inuyasha had already left.
"Damnit. We need to move fast Sango... Inuyasha might do something rash if we aren't there to stop him... to help him." He grabbed her arm and pulled her towards Kirara. The demon flared up to her flamed self and waited for them to get settled and Sango to give her the cue to go after Inuyasha. Just as they were about to take off, Shippou came running outside.
"Hey! Where are you going without me Sango, Miroku!!! Where is Inuyasha?" He was running after them. Sango called down to him as he attempted to transform so that he could fly and follow.
"Shippou... please stay here with Kaede... we need you to keep watch." She felt Miroku's staff position itself across her stomach, holding her to him protectively.
"Keep watch for what!" he screamed, obviously frustrated and stomping his little feet into the dirt.
"Explanations later Shippou!" Miroku called down and they were soon out of site.
Scoping out Inuyasha had not been easy, but if it had not been for the red of his Fire Rat clothing, it could very well have been impossible. Sango spotted him first as he came to a stop in the middle of the wooded area.
"Down there Miroku!" She called. "Lower now Kirara... down there." They landed in front of Inuyasha, and Miroku didn't hesitate to notice the odd look of bewilderment that had invited itself on Inuyasha's face.
"What is it Inuyasha?" He paced and looked around, not once making any eye contact with the monk.
"I don't smell her... her scent... it ends..." Finally he stopped walking and looked at Miroku and Sango. "Here." His eyes looked as if they were pleading. Miroku found himself confused at the way that Inuyasha was acting, but it was understandable. Within the past week, he had almost been killed, confessed his true feelings to and slept with Kagome, found out she was going to have his child, and lost them both to a demon that no one had ever heard of who claimed to be of greater worry than Naraku.
"Inuyasha, what do you think that Haisurah meant by Naraku not being of worry? I do recall something stated in that note about the rest of the jewel... you don't think..."
"That that bitch has the jewel and got rid of Naraku before any of us could get to him? I damn well do fucking think that. And now, she has my Kagome and..." he paused and his voice reduced to a whisper. "Our child... I know she is in danger... I know it and, I can't fucking find her!" He was screaming. At that point he had fallen to his knees and had begun to dig his nails into the soil. He was at his wits end. What the hell am I going to do! Those were the only thoughts that ran through his mind. Nothing else formed, not even a plan. Miroku had lowered himself beside Inuyasha in the dirt and tried to comfort him as well as he could.
"Are you sure that the scent stops there Inuyasha?" Sango asked him with curiosity in her voice. What was Sango up to? Miroku perked up and she gave him a glance that suggested that perhaps she did have an idea of where Kagome was. He smirked at her and slowly rose.
"What is it that you are thinking my dearest?" She smirked back at him but then caught Inuyasha's hopeful yet irritated glare and she cleared her throat, slowly Sango made her way over to the kneeling hanyou.
"Inuyasha, if the scent ends here and we have not been able to sense the presence of another demon, perhaps it is because her scent; both Haisurah and Kagome has been covered by the scent of the land." Sango grabbed Inuyasha's hands that were in the dirt. "You say that her trail ends right here...does this soil seem any different than any of the surrounding soil to you?" Her knowing smile stirred a curiosity in both men, causing them to simultaneously investigate the earth below them. Miroku let out a gasp realizing that the soil in which Inuyasha had dug into was slightly newer than the rest. Inuyasha bent to the soil, sniffing out the dirt like a puppy. His ears perked suddenly and his crouched position became tense. He began to dig.
"She's here... she's here somewhere... below, I can smell her... HELP ME DIG!" His holler made Sango cringe and she was sure that Miroku had also felt the passion that was withheld within his rage. They hurriedly rushed to assist Inuyasha. As they dug deeper, the ground seemed to lose its density. "Damnit!" He cried as he fisted the dirt. Miroku and Sango stopped burrowing and sensitively threw Inuyasha a look. "I was so sure that I could smell her scent..." what is wrong with me? I can't smell her anymore? Am I getting weak? Inuyasha slammed his fist into the ground again and the earth began to shake. Before anyone could question it, they all found themselves falling into an underground tunnel. It was dark and the fall wasn't as short as one would have hoped but, no one had been hurt. Miroku broke Sango's fall and suddenly her face turned red. Without fail, the Hentai Houshi's hand had found its way onto her backside; Kirara mewed at him and grinned her teeth. Inuyasha rose grasping Sango's hand as she prepared to strike her lecherous Houshi. Kagome. Her scent very strongly engulfed the air, she was there. Miroku got to his feet and rubbed at his back, that fall had not been as harmless as he thought. They both noticed the expression on Inuyasha's face. Sango was the first to speak.
"What is it Inuyasha?" Her face was writhed with concern; she seemed to have completely forgotten about the punishment that Miroku hadn't yet endured from his wandering hands. Inuyasha lightly touched Miroku's arm and the Houshi turned to face his hanyou friend.
"Do you sense her still Inuyasha?" he pondered, offering his own concern and worry. A nod was all that was given and they quietly started to make their way through the strange and dark tunnel. Where's that little runt when ya need him. Inuyasha couldn't help but think as he relied strictly on her scent filling his nose. It was too simply too dark to find his way through any other way without proper lighting.
"Perhaps Kirara could light our way?" Sango presented in a slightly audible murmur. Again Kirara mewed, but Inuyasha let out a very hesitant sigh. Then, his voice barely a whisper, he spoke.
"Too risky, I can sense Haisurah close, her scent seems to be overlapping Kagome's... we can't risk being seen... we'll have to deal through the darkness." Sango, the normally tough Taijiya, clung to Miroku's robe afraid that if a single finger slipped... she would be left behind. Miroku grabbed for her hand and brought her close.
"Do not be frightened my dearest, Inuyasha... well, he seems to know what he's doing... haphazardly... but he seems to... we just have to trust his judgment." He looked at her through the cover of darkness. There was a glimmer in her eyes that he could still see through the shadows that surrounded, it reassured even his own weary somewhat terror stricken disposition. She let out a sigh as they continued to walk, holding each other tightly to the other. Suddenly Inuyasha stopped and placed his hand firmly on the handle of his Tetsusaiga, he was anticipating something that was closely up ahead of them; a low quiet growl rumbled in his throat.
