Frank's POV
I clasped a hand round my mouth. Holy shit – did I really just call him Gee? I wasn't meant to; it just sort of slipped out by accident. He had gone quiet and was now staring at me. I really could feel my cheeks burning this time. I wanted to get up and run away from what I had just called him, but I felt like I was glued to the spot. I opened my mouth to speak but all power of words had left me
"Gee?" he repeated. Fuck, now I was in for it. That was it. Now he wouldn't want to talk to me at all, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he got up right now and walked away
"I'm sorry," I managed to speak. I looked down and away and waited to hear him get up and leave
"No one's given me a nick-name before, not even my brother." I looked up to see him smiling

"Well in my head I've been calling you that, I guess I just let it slip out. Sorry."
"Why are you saying sorry?" Yeah, why was I even apologising for it? He seemed happy enough
"I uh-"
"Don't apologise, I like it." He smiled again at me. My heart fluttered at seeing him smile, to which I smiled back at him. He was about to say something else
"Um, so you were about to say something else?" The smile faded a little from his face
"I'm not going to tell anyone, promise." He took a deep breath in and looked down a little
"I'mgay." He said it too quickly and quietly for me to hear. I wasn't sure whether I was hearing things or not. I wasn't sure whether he said he was gay or not. I got my hopes up, which is a stupid thing to do really. Getting your hopes up only means that they'll get beaten and thrown back down in the dirt
"Sorry, I uh, didn't quite catch what you said." I tried to sound polite and not eager to hear what h had to say. He lifted his head up a little bit

"I'm gay." He said it slower this time but still quietly even though there isn't anyone around. My eyebrows rose
"I'm not lying or anything, I wouldn't lie about something like that, honest! You can ask my brother and his friends if you want the proof." He sounded so defensive and honest. I couldn't help but smile but I held back my laughter at how he sounded
"I believe you, I really do." His cheeks flushed a pink colour, which was really cute
"I won't tell anyone, I promise, I don't want you to get beaten up like me." Gerard laughed
"Thanks . . . . . Frankie." I nearly dropped the bag of skittles as he said Frankie. He laughed at my quick reaction to grab the packet. My cheeks burned again but I couldn't help but laugh myself.

*****

For the whole time we were out there, we sat and talked non-stop. I couldn't help but feel happy, knowing that Gee was gay. I smiled every time he smiled and laughed whenever he laughed. We talked about music, films, comics, pretty much everything. We both went silent as we heard the bell sound for the end of the day. In a way I didn't want this to end, I just wanted to sit and talk to Gee forever, but couldn't. But I was glad that it was the end of the day as it meant getting away from school and all the homophobes. We got to our feet and Gee was on his phone
"I said I would meet Mikey by the front gate."
"I normally wait for Holly there and we walk home together." Gee nodded his head as we made our way

Holly's POV

My brain hurt after an hour of physics. I really don't get how people understand that subject! It's boring and hard to follow. Mikey appeared behind me
"I'm meeting Gerard outside."
"Cool, I meet Frank there." We walked through the crowds as people rushed to get out and get home. God I hated being knocked into and pushed about. I didn't check to see if Mikey was still behind me. I guess I should. I looked round and almost had Mikey walk straight into me
"Whoa," I said beginning to giggle
"Sorry," Mikey said his cheeks going pink, which only made me giggle even more. I found it cute when guys blushed. I turned and carried on walking

"Hey look, it's the other new kid," came Shayne's voice. I hated his voice so much. He pushed people around and more unless had been with every girl in the school. He was disgusting and I hated his guts, considering he always gave Frank a hard time. I remained close to Mikey and almost grabbed his arm trying to get out quickly. I didn't want to see Mikey get bullied on his first day
"Looks a right nerd!" a jock taunted. Fucking hell, if I wasn't so short, I would actually turn on them, but knew I'd be beaten, even if I was a girl
"Isn't he that other new kids brother?" a cheerleader said
"I do believe he is, and I have a way of teaching that other kid, a lesson," Shayne said. My stomach lurched. What the hell had Gerard done to upset Shayne?

I turned around at the right time to see Shayne grab hold of Mikey and push him against the wall. We were so close to the entrance. People moved around us
"You know, your brother is an actual freak." Mikey remained frozen and I stood rooted to the spot
"He's stupid enough to try and beat me, when he is no match." Mikey's eyes darted towards me
"Get lost Shayne." He looked at me and my eyes narrowed as I stared at him
"Or what?" he taunted. I walked forwards and grabbed hold of Mikey and pulled him away and carried on walking
"Aww look, the little bi has a crush on a guy!" Mikey may be cute, but I wasn't going to admit that any time soon. I carried on walking and knew full well they were following us
"You know what Shayne?" I stopped and turned and pushed Mikey away. We were right by the door. Shayne stood right in front of me. He did it every time to make me feel small, but it never worked
"It's guys like you, that go round and beat the living shit out of freaks like me that pushes me towards girls." A few cheerleaders laughed, and I hadn't noticed Maddie was amongst them
"And it's bitches like you that push me towards guys that don't beat the shit out of people." I turned and carried on walking, making sure Mikey was close by, but knew full well that this wasn't going to go down too well and I was right

Gerard's POV

You can tell those who don't like school; the rush to get out of the gates and onto the buses to take them home or those who more unless ran up the road away from the school. It was interesting to watch, but something else was far more interesting to watch; Frankie. He more unless just stood there, kicking his feet about while he waited for Holly. He looked round and smiled every now and then, which made me smile back at him. My attention was soon snapped to the entrance to the school
"Leave him alone!" screamed a girl's voice. It was Holly's voice. I looked to see that Shayne was with his group of jocks. He had more unless pushed Holly out of the way and had hold of my brother. Frank had seen too, his face seemed to go white as he watched. Without thinking I instantly ran over. I always did; whenever my brother was in trouble I ran over to protect him. Just as Shayne raised his fist, I grabbed hold of it and pulled my brother free and pushed him out of the way and took the punch instead and hit the hard concrete pavement with a loud thump.

Frank's POV

Without thinking I had followed after Gee as he ran to help his brother. I nearly tripped running up the steps and then nearly tripped over Gee as he fell to the ground. I initially grabbed hold of Gee and pulled him back up onto his feet and then had Mikey help me hold him back from lashing out at Shayne. Hitting Shayne or even attempting to, made things a lot worse. Gee might have had ago at him earlier, but still it wasn't the best thing to do
"Look, it's the two cowards, I said I was going to deal with you in sports, but both of you are chickens." I finally loosened my grip on Gee as Shayne and his lot laughed
"At least these guys don't go knocking every cheerleader round the school about," Holly retorted
"You're just jealous that I haven't done it to you," Shayne said. Holly made a gagging motion and I fought hard to keep a straight face
"Like I said a minute ago, its guys like you that push me towards girls." I loved how Holly was honest about things

"You leave my brother alone," Gerard suddenly snapped at Shayne
"Or what?"
"You'll regret the very day you were born."
"Gee don't, you'll only make things worse." I ignored the laughter and glances I got for calling him his nick-name
"You're right, come on Mikey, let's go home." Gerard walked away with Mikey following closely. I grabbed Holly's arm and dragged her away to make sure she didn't cause any trouble. They shouted at us a few times before Shayne and his group boarded a bus

"I'm sorry Mikey," Holly said suddenly. I looked at Holly
"I did try and pull him away."
"Don't feel bad about it, I stick out like a sore thumb, I guess I do kind of look nerdy." Gerard smirked at his younger brother's comment
"No need to apologise," Mikey said smiling at Holly. Holly smiled back
"If he gives you trouble, you tell me," Gerard said turning on his brother
"I will."
"Trying to fight him is the worse idea possible, it really is," I said. Gerard smiled at me
"So you've said, but he doesn't scare me that much." We walked with small chatter between the four of us, until Holly broke away and headed down her road

"So where abouts do you live?" Mikey asked me suddenly
"I live on Monroeville Street."
"No way! So do we!"
"You must be the family that moved in last week."
"Yep, what number are you at?"
"Two hundred and eight."
"So that's only like six doors down from us," Mikey said. I nodded my head as we turned into our street
"We could always wait for you in the mornings if you like and we can walk together," Gerard said suddenly. Mikey smiled at the idea
"Sure, sounds great," I said smiling. I stopped at the gate leading down the garden path to my house
"Are you coming Gerard?" Mikey asked
"I'll be there in a minute, you go ahead." Gerard watched to make sure Mikey was a fair distance away before turning to face me

My heart rate increased a little as he stood in front of me rummaging around in his bag. He pulled out something but I didn't' see what it was
"Give us your arm." I raised my arm slowly and to see him reveal the pen he had in his hand and begin to write something on my arm. It tickled causing me to giggle as he wrote. When he finished I looked to see he had written his number on my arm
"Text me, if you get bored or want to talk." He smiled after he spoke and I smiled back at him
"I'll see you tomorrow, outside your house." I nodded my head
"Bye Gee."
"Bye Frankie." I watched him walk away further up the road and to his house before opened the gate and walking down the garden path. I dumped my bag down and kicked my shoes off as I closed the front door. I went into the kitchen, knowing my mum wouldn't be home for another half an hour. I picked up a can of coke and a packet of cookies before crashing onto the sofa. I sat smiling away to myself admiring the numbers on my arm before pulling my phone out and outing his number on my phone. I decided I'd send him a text now, just so that he had my number, and hoped that it didn't seem desperate or weird. I took a sip from my can of coke before laying my head back and closing my eyes.

Gerard's POV

Sitting at the kitchen table, I had listened to Mikey ramble on about his day to mum for ten minutes, to which I had no input to
"Well, this Holly girl sounds very nice," my mum replied with a smile. He had spoken mainly about her than his actual lessons. I smirked as I raised my coffee cup to my lips
"Yeah, it's like he fancies her or something," I mumbled before taking a sip. Mikey stared at me and made to give me the finger but mum turned round
"I do not fancy her!"
"Give over, all you talked about!"
"Now boys, don't start fighting." I went quiet and Mikey stared at me
"How was your day Gerard?"
"Fine." I was simple with my replies. I didn't find school interesting and my mum knew that
"No trouble?" Mikey gave me a sideways glance
"None what so ever," I said as my phone vibrated in my pocket. It was a mobile number and I could only guess it would be one person. I smiled
'Hey, it's Frank, just thought I'd text you so you had my number :-) F x'

I hadn't noticed mum walk out the room or my brother shift round behind me to read the text
"Someone has a crush," Mikey said. I jumped as he spoke
"You little-" and before I even finished my sentence I was up out of my chair and Mikey running round the other side of the kitchen table
"You take that back!"
"Never, you do like him! I can tell you like him!"
"As a friend, yes!" I lied. I did like him more than a friend, but I wasn't going to admit that to my brother, it would just be something for him to tease me about
"You're such a liar Gerard!" I ran round the other side and just managed to catch hold of my brother before he escaped. We toppled over onto the kitchen floor
"You like Frank, just admit it already!" He had a smug grin on his face, one which I hated
"Only if you admit you fancy Holly!" His face went scarlet and I smirked at him
"I do not fancy her!"
"Then I'm not admitting it!" I know, I gave it away by saying that but still
"Gerard get off your brother this instances!" mum had returned to the kitchen and I slowly got up off my brother and went and sat back down at the table
"Honestly, you two are so childish at times." Mikey sat at the opposite end of the table from me. I returned to my coffee and we sat in silence until mum left again. I pulled my phone out and text Frank back

"Are you ok? After you know," Mikey lowered his voice so mum didn't hear. I leaned over the table
"After you got hit?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a sore arm." Luckily I didn't bruise easily, unlike Mikey. Shayne had managed to hit me in the chest, which at the time knocked all the air out of me, but landing on my arm was more painful
"If he does give you trouble, you tell me, right away." Mikey nodded his head
"And if he gives any friends that you make any problems, let me know as well."
"Gerard-"
"Mikey, your friends are just as important," I said cutting him off. He smiled
"About the only friends I am going to have at school is you, Frank and Holly. I don't fit in with anyone else. I guess I might make friends with some of Holly's friends, but who knows." I nodded my head
"I'm sure you will, I can't see why people wouldn't want to be friends with you, and don't forget, you've got Bob and Ray as well."
"Speaking of those two, they want to meet up this Saturday."
"Awesome." I liked Ray and Bob. They both were good friends with my brother and more unless looked after him when I wasn't about back at our old school until mum and dad moved us Belleville. Maybe we could invite Frank along, I'm sure Frank would like them too. I'll ask him tomorrow. I finished off my coffee just as mum came back into the kitchen
"I was thinking, maybe you two should invite Frank and Holly over one evening this week." Me and Mikey looked at one another. We'd only moved in about a week ago and yet there were still unpacked boxes around the house
"I'll ask her tomorrow," Mikey said smiling. I raised my eyebrows at him and his cheeks went red again, causing me to laugh. Mum gave me a look and so did Mikey, but I couldn't help it. Mikey got up and walked out of the kitchen and up to his room
"If you haven't got any homework, you can give me a hand getting dinner ready," mum said just as I stood up to leave. I let out a quiet sigh and walked over and gave my mum a hand with cooking dinner.
