Saffy went home after college. There was a note on the kettle from Jade.
There’s a little surprise in your bedroom, hope you like it, Jade xxx Saff cocked her head at it before crumbling it up and flicking the kettle on. She took her jacket off and chucked it on the sofa before walking down the hall and into her bedroom. There was a big box on her bed, at least as big as two of the kitchen cupboards put together. Saff was surprised Jade had got it through the door.
“What the?” she walked over and pulled back the not quite shut cardboard flaps. “Awwwwwwwwe!” she squeaked, there were seven small black and white balls, laid on top of each other. Border Collie puppies. She picked one up and it immediately start suckling her palm, “whoa, you are way too young to have been for sale, Jade must have found you” she put the suckling pup back and walked in to the living room, taking her phone out of her jacket pocket, scrolling through her phonebook for Ash, she found it. It rang three times before he picked it up,
“hello?”
“Hey, Ash, i need you to do me a favour” he sighed,
“fine butonlybecauseibroketheCDyouputinthedramastudio”
“you what?!-” she stormed out into the kitchen,
“it doesn’t matter, what do you want me to do?” Saff grumbled,
“i hate you and i need you to run to a petstore, but seven tins of puppy milk formula, then i need you to go to tescos or something and get seven baby bottles-“
“wait what? Why?” she rolled her eyes,
“it doesn’t matter, and bring Stefan and Dru if you can-“
“Dru’s at work”
“then just bring Stefan, and be quick” she hung up before he could reply.
Ash stared at his phone,
“the fuck was that all about?” he muttered before looking at the chipped disk in his other hand, he put it back in the case and left it. “Saff you get crazier and crazier, i swear, there is something seriously wrong with you.”
Saff answered the knock at the door, it was half five.
“What the hell took you so long?” she asked, Ash looked offended,
“hey! We didn’t even have to do this-“
“kinda did, you broke the CD” she said and he shut up,
“but i didn’t. Why do you want me here anyway?” Stefan asked, she looked at him,
“i need a few more extra hands” she said, he smirked,
“that sounds cheeky” she rolled her eyes and stepped away from the door, the boys walked in, Stefan closed it behind them.
“You still haven’t told us why you wanted us here?” Ash said,
“just come with me, did you get the things?” Ash held up the Tescos bag in response and she nodded. They followed her into the bedroom and she opened the box again,
“awe, puppies!” Ash said, Stefan and Saff looked at him and he cleared his throat. “Shut up, you know they’re cute” he said, the other two both shrugged in agreement and then Saff picked one up,
“yeah, they’re real cute but they’re also a pain. Look” she put her thumb over its mouth and it started suckling. “They should still be drinking milk from their mum but obviously Jade found them somewhere and couldn’t resist bringing them back here.” She shook her head, “either way, we need to feed them and i need you two to help, then i’ll over look the fact that you broke the CD and make a new one” Ash and Stefan nodded. They fixed up the bottles.
Ash moved the box to the floor and they sat on the bed with the puppies, their eyes were half open, Stefan was feeding one, Saff was feeding another and Ash was feeding two. He had insisted.
“These aren’t even two weeks yet” Saff said, Stefan looked at her,
“how’d you know?” she nodded at the other four puppies,
“they haven’t started walking yet” one of them yelped, a tiny high pitched sound, Saff moved the bottle so she was holding the puppy and the bottle in one hand before lifting one of the puppies off of the other puppys head. “You lot are gonna be trouble looking after. And selling”
“you’re gonna sell them?” Ash asked, as if he was personally offended, Saff looked at him,
“well yeah, it’s not like i can look after seven puppies on my own”
“my sister wants a puppy, she’ll take one straight away” Stefan said, his puppy stopped suckling, “argh, not again Butch” he mumbled,
“Butch?” Saff asked, Stefan looked up at her and nodded,
“yeah, look, he’s bigger than the others” she looked at the others and then Stefans. He was right, she smirked, “Butch, why don’t you have him? You’re already emotionally attatched” Stefan shook his head,
“nah, not at this age” Saff shrugged,
“suit yourself. Can you ring your sister and ask?”
“can do, now?” Saff shrugged,
“as soon as possible” he nodded and took his phone out of his pocket, dialling a number and putting it to his ear.
“Hey, Lisa, my mates got some puppies, d’you want one?” pause. “Border Collie’s but they’re still suckling and stu- yeah? Sweet, i’ve already chose you one, his name is Butch and you’ll love him” Saff smiled and shook her head. Stefan put the phone down, “she’s having Butch, how much?” Saff shook her head again,
“free to a good home, not like we paid anything for ‘em” Stefan grinned,
“really? Sweet” he lifted ‘Butch’ up, “hear that mate? You’ve already got a house” Ash chuckled and swapped puppies. Saff was on the same puppy, a little girl. She didn’t plan on naming any.
