Chapter 1 -Swan Song-

My eyes trace the edge of the road as I drive, turning the steering wheel slowly; carefully going around each narrow turn. I'm 18 but I didn't get my driver license until recently, so my driving skills aren't the sharpest. Driving home from my summer job always made me nervous; I didn't get out of work until sun down and the back roads of Louisiana where dimly lit and winding. I cringe and lean forward to better see the road. I'm almost home I think to myself as I hesitantly drive over an old partial stone bridge. Right as I cross midway, a large buck jumps out of the woods that neighbor the left of the rural bridge. I floor on the gas in an attempt to slam on the breaks. I whip the wheel to the right in a blind panic, spinning out. My adrenaline is pumping, everything is moving so fast that I'm not sure whats happening. There is screech of tires and a cracking of the seasoned stone bridges barrier wall. I feel the old, red, pick up tip over the edge. Time seems to move slowly, as the truck is suspended in air. I scream, but can't hear my voice over the loud thumping of my heart. I brace for impact in the deep lake below, but as the truck hits I feel my body rush forward; hitting the water like concrete. The car cabin quickly fills with water as it sinks to the bottom. I try to unlock the door but its jammed. I then frantically try to smash the window open, but to not avail. The amount of air is only a fraction of the amount of air left it the car, and I start to cry; my whole body is shaking. As I'm dragged down inside the truck I hold my breathe, quickly trying to plan my escape. The water has enveloped the whole car. The water is dark and murky; I try pound against the window once again. My chest burns, I need air, fast! I gasp straining for just one more breath, but water quickly fills my lungs. With a agonizing pain I claw at my ribs. I feel almost sleepy and soon everything's numb. Nothing is there, only cold stagnant water and a vacant darkness
