I slid down he back of the door to my bathroom. My heart pounded, and my chest felt tight. I couldn't get any air. I can't breathe. The world around me spun and I couldn't hear.
I can't breathe.
"I can't let you be you anymore. Not here."
A knock behind me. My mother's voice floated from behind me. "J, baby, are you okay?" I can't breathe. I thought I was going to die. I attempted to crawl away from the door, but landed on my face in a soft thump. Oh god, oh god. "J?"
The door opened behind me and hit my foot. I took in a shaky breath. It worked. One more. Another.
By the time my dad was there I was sitting up and breathing almost normally. He looked down at me. Shaking his head, his wrinkles deepened.
"Honey, we have to stop this." I felt it coming on again.
"O-okay." I wish I couldn't breathe.
I can't breathe.
