Kakashi walked to the Memorial Stone. It was midnight, yet he couldn't sleep. His mind drifted back to that day. It was just another mission: find and escort a dignitary for the Cloud Village. Nothing too hard. Tsunade had allowed Team Seven to go, even without a fourth member. Naruto was far ahead of them when they reached the rendezvous point. Sakura and Kakashi arrived to find Naruto and Sasuke dashing off to battle and a team of Sound nin attacking them.

Naruto looked back as his teammates were overcoming the Sound nins. Sasuke also looked and sent a katon jutsu at them. Naruto's eyes widened and he rushed to block it with his body. He looked up to see Sasuke aiming a chidori at his heart. Naruto looked at his team one last time. Sakura was unconscious and Kakashi's right arm was limp. He nodded and Kakashi picked up Sakura. The other nin were already dead. He began running back towards Konoha.

The man atop the Hokage monument sat down, remembering the last time he had been here. More specifically, the last mission he'd been on. The memories of what happened after the final blow were still vivid.

Naruto gasped as he appeared in front of the cage of Kyuubi. YOU HAD TO GO AND GET YOURSELF KILLED, DIDN'T YOU? Naruto stared at the fox. "It wasn't my fault. You didn't give me enough power." BLAME KYUUBI! IT'S ALL KYUBBI'S FAULT! YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGH OF THAT BEFORE TAKING SASUKE ON! NOW WE'RE BOTH GOING TO DIE BECAUSE OF YOU! UNLESS.... "Unless what, fox?!" Naruto was eager to grasp any hope. UNLESS WE BECOME ONE. YOU AND I MERGE. WE LIVE ON, BUT YOU WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO MASTER MY POWERS, AND INHERIT MY TITLE AS DEMON LORD OF THE SOUTH. Naruto looked shocked for a moment, then grinned. "Let's do it!" ALRIGHT, HERE WE GO.

Naruto's body began glowing with a white light. The light grew into a large pillar that reached high into the sky.

Two men walked among the streets of Konoha in the dark. Preparations for the exams were complete, and they were content to wait. The shorter man was thinking of an event this same night, long ago.

Thirty miles from the clearing caused by the fusion, Sasuke was jumping through the trees heading towards Otogakure. Sasuke was about to jump for the next branch when the shockwave blasted past him. His eyes darkened as he felt the dobe's chakra mixed in with the wave. I thought I killed him. His eyes darkened even more as he felt the second chakra. He hated the thought of Naruto having anything to do with anything even remotely powerful. But this power...he absolutely loathed this. The power in that wave was immense, it would have made both his brother and Orochimaru quake in mortal fear. He would not let that dobe have anything to do with that power, dead or alive. Sasuke scowled angrily as he dashed off towards where he had left the dobe's body.

Back in the clearing, the lights were just receding as a nine-tailed figure stepped out of the dust. It looked like Naruto, and yet not like him at all. The boy had memories that stretched back thousands of years. His nine tails swished lazily behind him. "Hmmmm...." He rumbled. His voice was similar to Naruto's, except that it was a little deeper and it had a rumbling, growling undertone to it. "I will need a new name. One that describes who I am now and not who I was." His eyes unfocused for a moment before quickly sharpening. His eyes were Naruto's cerulean blue, but his pupils were slitted and red. The whisker marks on his cheeks had gotten longer, darker, and deeper. His hands, if they could still be called that, no longer had soft human nails at the fingertips. They were as hard as diamonds and could be as sharp as a mid-winter's gale, or as dull as a human's. They could be extended as he wished, leaving them short, so that they were even with his fingertips, or an inch and a half long, as well as any length in between.
He had nine crimson tails with black tips that constantly moved behind him. His hair was long and black with crimson streaks. His ears weren't human; they were those of a fox. From the top of his head rose two furry fox ears. They were red, except for the tips, which were black. He was the same height as Naruto had been, that would most likely never change. His muscles had become denser, gaining no mass, but becoming much stronger. He was lighter too. His body had lost most of it's fat. He found himself looking at his claws with interest. Never again would he be left without a weapon. The same went for his tails. "My name, for now, will be Kit." He said with finality. A kit was a small fox, and he was still young, even by human standards. He might not be Kyuubi exactly, but his enemies should fear and respect him as if he was. In fact, he was basically the child of Kyuubi and Naruto, and he was stronger than Kyuubi had been, even if it was just a small amount. He could also use more jutsu than the old Kyuubi because of the old Naruto, or he would once he learned how to use his chakra again. He knew all of their jutsu, and was not limited by one set of seals. He could both the human and demon seals. As it was, he could only use one thing, and that was just because it was like a kekkai genkai, but it was not a human trait, for it was far too strong to be human. It was far stronger than any known to man. It's name was Onimetsuki, and it allowed him to copy other kekkai genkai, while at the same time block other kekkai genkai. For example, he could use Haku's ice mirrors because he had seen them, and they had been used against him. One really good thing about his Onimetsuki When he used Onimetsuki it did not look like any other optical jutsu. When he used it his eyes would turn blood red, like Kyuubi's, while his slitted pupils would obtain a golden lining. In the center of the pupil would be a small dot of blue, like a sapphire in the night sky, held in place by nine blue-green threads. The dot and threads that connected it to the iris would always be near invisible, only revealed upon close inspection, but the red and gold were easily seen. He also noticed that he could henge without the use of chakra. For instance, he could hide his tails, yet use them in battle and no one would know. They would think that he was using a jutsu of some sort. At that moment he hid his tails. It wouldn't be prudent to show anyone back in Konoha. He sniffed the air and raised an eyebrow. All of his senses had been heightened as well. Everything was clearer and sharper, he could see farther as well. He could hear everything as well as feel it, and he could even taste things in the air. His sense of smell was better than Akamaru's. Somehow he knew that he could control his senses, dulling whichever one he wanted to human level, which he promptly did to most of them. He would leave them that way until he was ready to learn how to use and get used to them. He could smell a team from Konoha approaching. That was all he could tell from his first whiff, they were still too far away. He took another one to see who was coming. It was the Rookie Nine and their teachers. Well most of them anyway, no one from Team 7 was there. He decided to leave before they found him. Even if they wouldn't recognize him, there was still a chance one of them might try to stop him. There would be an interrogation if they caught him, and he was not ready to face Ibiki. Besides, he planned to one day return to Konoha, and he did not want anyone to remember that he had been there that day. Without a second thought he dashed off to the east and Sunagakure, the Village Hidden in the Sand, using his new speed, quickly leaving the clearing behind. He would learn many new jutsu before he returned. If he had waited a few more seconds the Rookies would have caught him. His senses were still new to him so he had misjudged their distance. As it was he had just left as the first one stepped into the clearing. He had also missed the other team completely, the team that would change his life forever. But all of them had seen him, however briefly.

The figure atop the Hokage monument stirred from where he rested on the Fourth's head.

Two minutes before, the Nine had been rushing toward where they had all seen the pillar of light rise. Gai-sensei was yelling something about the Power of Youth, while Hinata was more concerned about Naruto. She knew that his team had come this way on their mission before they returned. They had returned without him. Gai, sensing her thoughts tried to distract her. "Are you sure it came from this direction, Hinata?" The white-eyed girl stuttered; "H-Hai, the light came from this direction." Asuma stopped suddenly. The genin and one chuunin, Shikamaru, came to a halt behind him, staring at what lay before them. In the middle of the forest was a gap forty meters across from one tree to another in any direction. The ground was perfectly level and as smooth as glass. No plant life grew within the circle. But that was not what caught their attention. Standing in the exact middle of the clearing was a boy with dark red and black hair that looked somewhat like Naruto, at least from a distance. He seemed to be in deep thought when he suddenly ran off in the opposite direction at an inhuman speed. Forget the thought of him being Naruto. The dead last could never ever hope to be that fast. Kiba walked over to where the boy had been standing. "Well I guess we found what made that light." He sniffed the air along with Akamaru, his dog. "Naruto was here. What's funny is that his sent does not leave here. It just stops right here." He sniffed the air again. "That boy kind of smelled like Naruto, but there's something else. I cant tell what." At that Akamaru barked. Kiba was looking at his dog with a shocked and confused look. "What do you mean he smelled like a Demon Fox? There haven't been any demons around Konoha since the Kyuubi." The teachers blanched as they listened to the conversation. Gai spoke with a serious tone, "We will report this to the Hokage. When we get back, speak of this to no one. You hear me?" All of the genin and the Chunin nodded. "Good. Now let's head back." they all dashed back towards Konoha as fast as they could to report what they had found to the Hokage.
