He woke to the dark confines of the small hut where they took shelter for the night. It was not the pelting of the late winter, early spring rain which woke him, but the soft incessant kicking of his hip from the life his mate carried within her that did it. He noted she slept on peacefully, nestled as always on his right.
Holding her close, he murmured softly, "Stop it Whelp!"
It was in that exact moment as the pup responded, that he understood his father and the love he shared with 'that woman' for their hanyou son Inuyasha.
